Tight Ass or Clear Skin???

    Hello People,

The above is not a question its a dilema im facing.

Basically i love the gym and go 3 times a week religiously. But i find my skin breaking out after my workouts, i always always always wash the little bit of make up i wear off before every workout. I suffer pre mentrual acne but i have that under control with my pill. I find if i cannot go the gym due to work or sickness ot wotever my skin is really clear and i have no spots. But when im on a roll with the gym my skin can get really bad. So basically i blame the gym on these break outs. I think it must be the sweating or the make-up under my skin or something.

It gets me down and i sometimes wonder whether its worth it. Is there anyone else who suffers from this or have you any advice on what to do other than just not going.

Wash properly before and after, avoid soap (Except maybe Dove) as it dries the skin out too much, and drink LOTS of water before, during, and after excercise.

I do all this, i wash my face with an oil free face wash before and use a gentle exfoliating one afterwards in the shower. I also drink 1 1/2 litres b4 and during, not so much after in the evenings as i would be on the loo all nite.

I know a girl who had the same prob and went to a dermatologist and was told to avoid the gym as the air is usually gank and jog outside instead. But that does not appeal to me in the slightest.

    :D
Ugh - if you're in Dublin, or Limerick City - the air in a gym is better

i get breakouts across my chest, not my face and its a compelte pain in the proverbial bum.

Buffing my skin in the shower every morning seems to help, so gentle exfoliation every other day may help you too- Clinique do a fab every day scrub, and the Apricot something-or-other range from Boots is good (and cheap) too!!

Tbh, a nice tight behind is pretty damn hard to achieve so enjoy it while you can!!!!

I'm no expert on this but is it the sweating that’s causing the body to eliminate toxins and then resulting in the skin to break out !!

    what you could try is
Lots and lots of water daily.
Try a detox to clean out the system.
Take Flax oil daily (lots of it).
Take a sauna for 10 minutes after training.

What ever you do don't stop training because of it, I'm sure your tight ass looks great but think about all the additional health benefits you would be missing out on, including the feel good factor after training and the confidence it gives.

Experiment with eliminating different food stuffs from you diet for a week or two at a time.
First try dairy then maybe wheat.

    Keep on training and enjoy…

A trip to the sauna or steam room for 15 minutes after the gym would be good for you.

First thing is - dont let it get you down. You're not the first person to get acne and i'm 100% certain your case isnt the worst either. Lots of people go through this.
Now tell me what age you are and have you had a history of acne or is it in the family? If it is then i reckon its not the gym that is causing it. Truth is you *may* have acne. I mean you go 3x a week to the gym. When i had bad acne it usually came in a cycle. You havent allowed youself time to recover so it might not be the gym. Take a week off or so and see if your skin clears up. Then hit the gym again keeping the same clean diet you always have and see if you breakout again.

Contrary to what ppl believe acne isnt caused by diet or chocolate or hygiene or air. I cant believe a derm told your friend acne was caused by "going to the gym". Its not. Its a hormonal/gland thing
Breakouts are much different than acne and they are caused by the above. I still get breakouts every now and again but i dont have acne anymore thank god!

Stay out of the gym and see if your skin clears then hit it again. I really cant see any reason why it would be caused by going to the gym unless one of your exercises in the gym is rubbing your face with sandpaper.

Most important thing is dont let it get you down. Truth is you see blemish's as big marks that other people probably dont even notice. They're probably staring at your tight ass :D
I guarantee you in a few yrs you'll look back and laugh at this episode the same as i can (almost) do now

Take a trip to the dermatologist... I'm sure they can give you something for it.

EDIT: Oh yeh... and we need pictures to be able to compare properly !!

if you have acne and go to a derm they will put you on roaccutane more than likely and thats a road id not advise anyone to go down

excess sweating and bad circulation of air in an environment like a gym can contribute towards breakouts of spots, its just the pores getting clogged. Honestly I know of a lot of people who suffer from the same thing (me included- perfect skin until I started in the gym. Not going to stop me going though!)

Why is that? I knew this guy who had pretty bad acne...he went to the dermatologist and told all the lads he just couldn't drink for a while because of "diet". We got it out eventually he was on Accutane...i say it is the best thing he ever did because he is sorted now.

Perhaps its something to do with putting makeup onto your face whilst the pores are still open and thus casuing them to get clogged up? This is, of course, if you do put make up on after a warm shower in the gym.

Did he turn into a lunatic while on it? I think it still affects me sometimes.

There are drugs in that product that no one fully understands how they work or what they do.
google and you'll find some of the horror stories.
Granted for 95% of ppl it worked fine and no more acne

No...i remember i quizzed him as i heard the same bs. He asked his dermatologist about it...some dude in the blackrock clinic and he said that it was in the 80's i think that some dude commited suicide due to the so called effects of accutane, and even then there is no evidence to suggest it was accutane. Most the cases are in America and if i am to generalise myself, it makes sense...

I always preferred using the steam room over the sauna, and lots of women use facial steaming at home to help cleanse the skin. But tbh, keeping the skin clean i.e. always showering properly after a workout and every morning, was really the only thing to work. And just to reiterate what joc said, I certainly wouldn't advocate roaccutane- it works fine for many, but when the side affects do occur, they can be very severe and long lasting ('mild' side effects include skin dryness, dizziness and irritability not to mention having to give up the gargle completely).

I am on the pill Yasmin which has helped a lot, i dont get big monstrosities of spots, just little yellow heads now. During the summer when i was nothing my skin was in an awful mess but its making progress now i guess i just have to be patient.

There is no way i could give up the gym, i alway say i will if it means my skin will be clearer but nah i couldnt.

I would never go on that medication for acne i dont think its bad enough. But it does work for some people, but it always makes people suicidal which is scary.

Be careful with remarks like that, they're way off the mark. There have been links between Roaccutane and suicidal tendencies but nothing has been proven. It may be that serious cases of acne cause a person to become depressed through self-esteem issues or they may stem from other totally unrelated problems.

Yasmin is a known anti-acne contraceptive so if its working stick to it. IF its just white/ yellow heads and not really bad acne your best bet is to keep the skin clean and moisturised (many girls think that moisturiser makes your skin greasier but it doesn't- it stops overproduction of sebum). Wear as little as poissble make-up, keep the skin hydrated and exfoliate gently every other day (a wash cloth is fine for this).

Nail on the head there. The sh!t makes your acne considerably worse for a longish period before there is any improvement so it may just be ppl at the end of their tether.

Anyway, im sure this isnt the place to discuss it.

Being honest about it as long as you're presentable you should have no probs with attracting men. Its definitely a girls world. guys definitely have the hardest time trying to find someone
OP - try a new gym or just buy a bench and a set of DB's and jog outside.
If its not actual acne then im sure a cleaner newer gym like Ben dunnes will cure you no probs.

yeah i agree with joc 06 - a few spots (probably only noticeable to yourself) will not harm your chances anyway.

i know of vfew girls who regularly get exercise so you're already ahead of the pack;)
a fit body would far outweigh a few spots

Wot makes you all think im single :p

I am in a 10 month relationship with a great guy and he does not give **** about my spots. I let them bother me too much i know but i still seem to get attention from guys spots or no spots, but i think that just me knockers

I personally found much of my acne in my early twenties was directly linked to milk, white bread and junk food consumption.

Used all the antibiotics and still have stomach problems years on from them.

Also i found 99% of the cleansers available are terrible. Use ones with no Sodium laureth sulphate as they are very harsh on your skin. Also i used vitamin E oil directly applied to my face (still do). The essentail fats in the oil will help the skin heal.

Final tip the best out there is the following www.cosmeticscop.com

I would't buy any cosmetic product without checking here first. e.g. on accutane

"Although the high risk of birth defects and the other side effects should be taken seriously, it seems a shame that Accutane has been kept away from many acne patients. It is the most effective, short-term drug for acne available today. All other acne treatments require ongoing, tenacious adherence to the program and they don't offer a cure. The public is largely misinformed about Accutane's potential dangers as well as its potential benefit. Many doctors believe that if it weren't for the proven risk of birth defects, Accutane would be prescribed almost as frequently as antibiotics. Not surprisingly, it is prescribed much more frequently to men".

Suicidal tendencies are a known side effect of it actually. An Irish guy is suing because the American brands displayed this but when his son was taking it there were no such warnings on the box...

I have a theory that in the next few years injectable growth hormone will be used as an acne treatment, for hrt and basically as a panacea... watch this space!

Yeah a lot of people would be surprised how good they would feel off dairy and wheat for a week or two. Well worth a try.

Avoid Roaccutane like the plague. The fact you have to get regular blood tests while taking to ensure your liver isn't being damaged should be enough to put anyone off it.

The best alternative is a 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide product. The closest to that here is Quinoderm 5, which is 5% Benzoyl Peroxide or straight Quinoderm which is 10% Benzoyl Peroxide.

Avoid the 10% Quinoderm, as it will be far too strong for someone starting off and will likely severely dry out your skin, make your skin look burned and may give you a rash. It will however wipe out any acne.

It's better to start with Quinoderm 5 once a day applied sparingly, especially if you have sensitive skin, and slowly increase the frequency of use over a number of week to the recommended twice a day as your skin gets used to it.

There's a regime at www.acne.org for use with any 2.5% BP product. They've also been selling their own 2.5% BP product for about 6 months but that's likely very expensive to ship over here.

Also, exfoliating every day will just irrate your skin causing more breakouts. Reduce the exfoliating to no more frequently than every 3 days.

Hmm interesting, well i know a few people who have taken it and they would say it is the best thing that has happened to them...

It does a lot more good to people by clearing their skin than the bad, the people who commit suicide. Either way, it is very sad...

Somebody else mentioned flaxseed oil and I would recommend this too as a 'natural' remedy.
Treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn and rosacea. The essential fatty acids in flaxseed oil are largely responsible for its skin-healing powers... In cases of acne, the EFAs encourage thinning of the oily sebum that clogs pores.

At the very least you will have softer skin and have a better colour.

Tried something similar myself a few years ago, it was the best thing i ever did theres no reason to suggest it has negative consequences unless you are using it for years and years.

obviously the tablet thing could put people off though, One thing ive tried is benzoyl peroxide facial scrub or cream, absolutely brilliant it took about 2 months but i was completely clear after using it
    try these guys:

I used Roaccutane, for a few months back in 1999.

I started off using Oxytetracycline, while it worked while I was using it, once I stopped the spots came back.

Next up I used Hostacycline, again that worked until I stopped using it. Then I used something else which I cant remember with similar results.

I was apprehensive about using Roaccutane becuase of supposed side effects. It sorted me out no end, and life has been great since.

Now it has to be said, that I started on 20mg a day and moved up to 80mg(or 4 tablets). When I started taking 80mg, I used to feel depressed about an hour after, so in the end I used to take them before bed to sleep through it.

My skin doesnt really tan very well since taking it, but I dont if that is related. But anyways what counts is I dont have spots anymore.

Ya but 2.5 % is very weak and will only work on mildly affected skin, though it is good for sensitive skin (particularly females).
5% for a month then 10% when your skin is more used to it will sort any problem out. Also the 'DDF' brand on skin911 is particularly good with included tea tree oil, one of the biggest problems with BP products is that they seriously dry out your skin however the DDF range doesn't in my experience.

'tisnt nat urtel wearin that stuff on your face!

however, fat is often the answer. many girls with bad skin could do with more fat. healthy fats. fish like salmon or makeral every day not once a week, olive oil etc. a few other nutritional factors too but i think thats the most imortant. plus: a few zits doesnt change how you look! i always find that funny how people freak out about spots. a good lookin person is still the same! so what about a zit or two or twenty! if brad pitt had 10 zits would you still think he was great??

if queen latifa had a few zits i would still think shes gorgeous! so there!

Yeah I#d have to agree on that one, wouldn't go near one. Would you get into a bath after 20 people had used it?

Sauna is excellent and has many health benefits. Great for recovery after a hard training session. Sanua -> cold shower repeated as many times as possible.
