Looking at buying this laptop from microaid.ie.

It works out at about 1200+vat.

I have went through the list of places to buy
laptops and cant seem to find it cheaper anywhere
    else.

I have heard a few people on boards that like this
laptop, thats the main reason I'm going for it. :)

Has anyone seen it cheaper anywhere else?

I bought one last week in France for €1259 so the price you have is pretty good.

It's a very nice machine. I play Battlefield 2 on it and it one of the most demanding games out there at the moment.

The only downside is that the speakers are a little weak and the DVD drive does make a lot of noise IMHO. Both problems combinder mean that it's a lot easier to watch a DVD with headphones.

Yeah I think it was you Nukem, that game me the idea
to look up this laptop and i am definately impressed.

I'm just wondering if it would be better to just get
a dell laptop with a better processor and screen for
    cheaper?

Maybe I'm missing something really obvious, but why don't you buy it from acernotebooks.co.uk, the site with the spec you linked to? It's €1313 inc vat and delivery to Ireland compared to €1440 inc vat and delivery from microaid

I"m going to buy it through my employer so that brings the
    price down to 1200.

I could probably get it cheaper in the UK but it sounds alot
better to the boss if they are just up the road.:)

I can't see how a DELL would have a better screen?

What I mean by better screen, when you go into the customise
section of the laptop you can pay extra to get higher resolution
    screens
    ie something like

    base 1280 1000
    +40 euro 1400 x 1280
    +110euro 1900x1400
    fitting into a 15.4" screen.

The resolutions are not correct but it is something similar.
    What do you think?

They might be able for the resolutions but Ive never been impressed by a dell screen except their higher end stuff. You get what you pay for. Acer crystalbrite technology is very nice to look at. Put it beside a cheap dell and you wouldnt hesitate to see which is best.

    Thats probably true.
My girlfriends laptop screen is definately below average.
5 dirty dead pixels in the middle.

Acer screens are better then dells by far. They come with some screen coating (Like Sony's X-Black coating) and its very very nice

Yep acer is definately the way to go.

    Its always the little things.

    Like

The 2 buttons at the front for turning on/off bluetooth/wifi.
    The excellent screen (1600x1000 ish)
    The slot loading DVD rom
    etc...

    Extremely happy with the purchase.

Going to install BF2 and Matlab once it is defragmented.

Here is a little teaser pic.

awh man you've just made me one jealous mofo.

why oh why can't delivery company deliver on weekends.

how's the bluetooth mouse? i guess it's not good for games but alright for general use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,259 ✭✭✭Shiny

The mouse is a disaster in games.

    I wasn't playing 5 minutes in BF2 and
I had to stop using it and use a wired
    mouse instead.

Other than that it kicks ass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

sweet, i knew it would crumble in games.

does the mouse need any reciever plugged into a usb port?

just another quick question, do you have a usb keyboard? just wondering would it work as it would be nice to use when going to lans instead of carrying around my 20kg monitor.

ask as my questions as you want. :)

the bluetooth is built into the laptop
so you just press the button at the
front (as seen in pic) and then the
    mouse just works.

I dont have a usb keyboard although it would be
annoying as look at the location of the 3 usb ports
at the side of the laptop.

They kinda got in the way of my hand during the
5 hour BF2 gaming session with the roomates last night.

I was using the laptop keyboard last night and
i was hitting wrong buttons the whole time!!!

but the laptop rubber skin prevented me from getting
those wrist pains that you get at lans if you dont
have one of those gel mouse mat rest things.

How could you possible play BF2 with a touchpad mouse?

We are talking about the bluetooth mouse
that comes with the laptop and how bad
    it is for gaming.

Have never tried the touch pad...
