I think I'll spend this year in bed for most of the day with a blue eyed blonde and a bottle of Jack.

Anyone else hate this greedy time of year?

    I'd much rather celebrate Festivus....

Actually I'll probably do what I did last year and just spend the day in the office... There will be too many family members at home that I'm not on speaking terms with...

Its the only day of the year that you can sit in and eat and booze all day. Plus you get to spend time with your family. But the two month build up to one day... the shops just love milking the holiday.

    Tbh I'd rather celebrate Wintereenmas!
I'm far too long working in retail at this stage to really enjoy Christmas.

Ya miserable pack of feckers! How can you not enjoy Chrsitmas? its the best time of year, the mood is electric and its party season.... my only problem with Christmas is the fact that I end up resembling Mrs Claus in terms of roundness once the celebrations are done!

Meh, Christmas. Christmas lost all its "magic" for me, when my sister stopped believing in Santa.

Thats the thing, i have a 6 year old brother so it's cool...

    it was magic...

I love christmas, although its my first christmas since moving out of home (i'll be back for dinner though), so I'm not sure how its going to be.

Girlfriend wants to put up decorations and what not, couldnt be arsed doing it but if she wants to put them and take them down she can, I'll let her!! :p

Christmas is nothing special. overpriced everything, people shopping like the end of the world is coming ( I mean do you *really* need 3 shopping trolleys full of stuff for 3 days of shops closed??) rubbish on TV, nothing to do cos it's wet and cold and icky, pubs jammers with langered work parties, no taxis, crap luas and nitelink service. I can't actually see any good in the whole bloody thing other than a couple of days holidays in the most miserable time of the year. And don't give me the "oh it's such a great family time" lark - if family are so important to you why don't you go see them more often, when the weather is nicer in summer say?
Best christmas I ever had was when I went away snowboarding for Xmas and New Years. Wish I had the money to that every year.

    One simple answer: NO :p

God you sound like my bf... I had to campaign for a week last year for a xmas tree and even at that we ended up with one of those 1ft hight pre-decorated jobs... was kinda cute tho :p

My favourite part of xmas is my roast dinner at my mams and then going back to my apartment with the bf to open our pressies to each other, have a few glasses of wine and have a cuddle :D Bliss

I do agree that the run up to the big day has become something of a joke, its like a race for the shops to see who can get the xmas stock out the quickest... It wont be long before they dont even bother letting halloween pass before putting up the santa's and snowmen

Good idea that, I'm going to make her convince me that we need decorations. The convincing can entail whatever she feels nessecary!! :p (except of course dumping me)

i remember i was dreading last christmas. I ended up drinking a bottle of Midleton rare with my uncle. so it was far more pleasant than i thought it would be.

Midleton rare is worth the money by the way.

    What about torture? :p

I'll be celebrating Christmas, yehhh!!! I love Christmas, it's great having the family all together! Unfortunately one of my brothers is gonna be in Australia, so that's a bit of a bummer :( Ahh well, I'm sure it'll still be good :)

Miserable pack of feckers indeed. Think about this, if we didnt have christmas there would be no time of year when everyone is off together & one year would just flow into the next with no break from work.

Christmas for me is about christmas eve (one of the best piss ups of the year) followed by a load of family time & days off, enjoying the experience for what it is. Not bemoaning what it isnt.

well I do enjoy christmas, but I work in a pub so the run up to the special day is a real pain in the arse! the great bit is the Chris Krindle(sp?) that we have, always good for a laugh, and on or two of the girls makes hash brownies, 2 or 3 of them and you're high as a kite!

I also like the family aspect of the day, I mean you could say "well if you like them so much meet up like that all the time" well I do meet my relatives a lot but none of the meetings are nearly as good as the Christmas one.

Ah yeah im a big fan of christmas. I dont like the fact that you are forced into buying all these presents but I love the way there are always loads of good films on tv. Christmas Eve is one of the best p1ss ups of the year and the pubs are jammed. Then CHristmas day is great when your chilling with the family having a few drinks, eating the nicest dinner of the year. You gotta love christmas time.

Ill be in London for a bit this year too so im really looking forward to it

Ah, come on, its pretty simple really! Christmass is supposed to be a happy time, but not all families or individuals are happy. And being stuck in a house with family members screaming at each other all day is not exactly fun.

Absolutely definitely celebrating christmas here :) It's my birthday too so it's my favourite day of the year! Can't wait :D

Yes but surely all of the crappy Christmas house lights, the smell of a fresh christmas tree, cold weather and commercialised Christmas spirit makes you forget about all of that sort of thing.

no i celebrate christmas myself pac :v: pac :v: pac :v: pac :v: pac :v:

edit: (just noticed the little pacman there hehe couldnt help it)

no seriously probably gonna go home have the ritual drink out with the family and christmas dinner with them and then back to work for me, quite boring really...

Plus my aunt and uncle are coming over from italy with their kids (theyre 4 n 7) n they're stayin with us for xmas morning so santa will be visiting! cant wait! plus I have a boyfriend so xmas shopping should be great!:D

Absolutely, it's my favourite time of year and always has been. I'm 18 now (today's my birthday woo!) but I still get the 'Christmas feeling' in the run up, I love roaming around town in the evening and seeing all the lights up and hearing all the music. Christmas Eve. in the Club in Dalkey where last year I think I saw everyone I know on earth, Christmas day going for a swim in waggers, coming home and gorging by the fire for the whole night! Ooh I can't wait!

Especially this year, I'm going to Australia for 3 weeks on Dec.27th!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

Never really liked christmas after Santa stopped coming to our house, dreaded it actually but I'm goin to enjoy this year. Was away for it last year and it was horrible. It's just not the same being away from your family and the selection boxes and crappy movies like Mary Poppins and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. They dont' show those films on tv in America! So I can't wait!! oh yeah and for a properly cooked, well heated christmas dinner....unlike last year  :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,458 ✭✭✭CathyMoran

Sorry for being a bit serious here - personally I felt that Christmas was a wasted day, it never lived up to expectations...then last Christmas we were faced with one of the family not being there due to illness, we found out that she would be home for the day on Christmas Eve - now that is a day that I will remember for the rest of my life, the best Christmas ever. For me Christmas is about family - hoping to spend this Christmas with my parents and brother in a hotel.

i remember my brothers mother in law tried to play wit us, she didnt really get it, so she just kept saying Finbarr Fury...

Hell yeah, ive always loved Christmas and even though the secrets out its still nice to keep the magic going, makes the holiday worthwhile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

I don't need an excuse to be nice to my family and friends.

    **** christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,458 ✭✭✭CathyMoran

Some of my best friends will not be in Ireland for Christmas, that will be tough - will be spending a few hours on the videophone over the festive period. I love spending some of Christmas Eve in town though, it has a certain magic to it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 944 ✭✭✭NoDayBut2Day

Of course. Love this holiday. Such a special time of year!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 450 ✭✭Willymuncher

I don't know how anyone can hate it, unless they're lonely, miserable or don't like happy people. Every year I hear more and more people go on about how ****ty Christmas is, its sad, its supposed to be a happy time, I love it. I'll be spending this year in the states with the in laws...should be lots of fun.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 944 ✭✭✭NoDayBut2Day

    ^ Yeah, I know... :(

I came across someone for the first time that didn't like Christmas only last year. Up until then, I thought everyone really liked it. Maybe that was me being naive... but yeah...
