First test starts on Saturday, will be interesting to see if England carry the momentum over from the Ashes victory, they are doing their usual comedy act in the warm-up games against Patron's XI and Pakistan A so they mean nothing to the outcome of the tests.

England Test and One Day Squads

    Pakistan Squad

I’m going 2-1 England, what you guys reckon?

Hmm, I was gonna start this thread fairly soon. Simon Jones is a big loss and I know they're only warm up games but they're batting so badly it's comedic. They're lucky it's Pakistan first and then India or I wouldn't be confident at all... However I'll go with 1-0 England.

    I'm going 1 all.

hopefully 2-1 to england, but i feel this is a tough test on a par with the ashes, simon jones is a big loss and as ruggie said vaughn as done his knee, lets hope its not to serious

on the up side of vaughns knee it might bring joyce into contention for a call up,or they might go fot the absolutely flabulous key...

like to see joyce get a chance
even without vaughan i think england may be too strong i go 2-1 england

Freddie to be the star again:D

looks like he is going to miss the whole series so sky are saying

I doubt England will beat Pakistan, a lot of things went their way in the summer, i cant see it happening again. Think they're overrated to be honest.

The Ashes could easily have gone the other way and if it were played again right now i think Oz would slaughter them the way they have played since.

I will go with Pakistan to win the series.

And Australia to regain the Ashes next winter.

Thorpe for a shock recall anyone? Unlike Joyce he has proven Test experience and who knows...one last hurrah? Just to prove the selectors were wrong in the summer (not that they were wrong really)?

    Mike.

Owais Shah and Rob Key are both having surgery and are unavailable to play (Duncan Fletcher stated they were his first choice replacements for Vaughan). No mention of Ed Joyce from the England camp yet.

Huge blow if as looks likely Vaughan is going to miss out but better it happened now that last Summer at least, Essex batsman Alastair Cook has been called up as cover.

I have never rated Trescothick as a captain so not sure what to expect

i think Trescothick is ok. Shame for vaughn. Don't really know a huge amount about cook

Both batting line-ups look pretty brittle at the moment, whatever the outcome i wouldnt expect any of the tests to go beyond 4 days, however the pakistani bowlers just have the edge in this series for me... Specially with "mushy" back in the side, 1-0 pakistan....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,913 ✭✭✭JacksonHeightsOwn

there wasa few murmours from skysports on wheter england woudl call up Ed joyce or not, but as we see now, they didnt

shame, would have generated a fair bit of interest in the series over,

if not, it certainly would have made headlines

End of day one advantage England

    Pakistan first inns
    244 - 6 (87.4 overs)

Wicket is dead so happy with 6 wickets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,800 ✭✭✭county

    very good first day:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    At close on day two

    Pakistan 1st Innings
    274 all out (98.2 overs)

    England 1st Innings
    253 for 3 (68.0 overs)

Should be good enough for a first innings lead of 100-150 I'd say.

Good to see the England batsmen have been patient, adapting to the slow wicket.

    Mike.

First Test, Multan, day three (close): Pakistan 274 & 125-2 v England 418

Definately, but the Younis Khan wicket was important just before close.

You're obvioulsy more aware of Englands tendency to collapse to modest totals :D

I was working on the assumption that the Pakistani bowling would have to improve and that Flintoff would play a lazy stroke! :D

Pakistan struggling against the new ball now, collapse is on

    299/7 lead by 155

    Game on!

He went LBW without offering a shot to Hoggard,

Bad dismissal for such a talented and experienced batsman.

Trescothick out and England 24 for 1. Anyone think Pakistan can do it? I expected more from Kaneria in the first innings i thought there was a ot of hype about him in the run up

There is very little in the pitch for him to be fair.
Should be more effetive in this innings than the first though.

Well done Pakistan, excellent win in a very good test match.

Pakistan beat England by 22 runs.

    Pakistan
    1st Innings TOTAL: all out , 98.2 overs 274
    2nd Innings TOTAL: all out , 105.5 overs 341

    England
    1st Innings TOTAL: all out , 110.4 overs 418
    2nd Innings TOTAL: all out , 52.4 overs 175

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,420 ✭✭✭WellyJ

Yep fair play to Pakistan there,

Kaneria, with match winning 4-62, finally found some turn in a dead pitch.

    Come on the pakis

Rawalpindi express back in town. You gotta love the grin on Danish

    England batting lineup looking weak

Especially that middle order, Pietersen has been out of form for a while now,

And freddie is just too agressive at times. Silly shot this morning

That last knock of Pietersen's against the Aussies papered over the cracks, I feel.

Yeh, coupled with the fact he's a terrible fielder and doesnt bowl i'm not sure if he warrants a place in the test side.

ODIs sure, he is perfect for that form of the game.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

I woke up this morning at 9 ish and put Radio 4 LW on expecting to hear the cricket, instead it was normal programmes, so I asumed England had made short work of the bowling! Boo.:(

Just saw the dismissals on Sky, Pieterson should be shot for flashing at a ball like that. All he needed to do was stay in, be boring.

Like you say he's a one day man who got lucky.

I think Flintoff may have reached that point where someone needs to take him aside and remind him of his duties to the team!.

    Mike.

    Faisalabad, 2nd Test, Day 1.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first (not surprisingly)

    Currently...

    Pakistan 264/4 (75.0 ov)

    Inzamam-ul-Haq 63*
    Shahid Afridi 48*

Story so far, England had them at 73/3, but Izny came in an steadied the boat with Mohammad Yousuf, putting on 128. Giles and Udal being whipped; the King of Spain only 8 overs for 46, Udal 10 overs for 39.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    Oh, the team news was...

Vaughan for Collingwood, Shahid Afridi and Rana Naved came in, Hasan Raza and Shabbir Ahmed missed out.

Shabbir's other chucker-in-arms, Shoaib Malik, plays, but is likely only to bat.

Currently 59-2 a massive 403 behind - this is going to be a tough ask

Can England bat, bat, bat, on a mud slab with 2 wristies at either end? As long as Bell and Tresco stay in, and they are two players who are in form ouut there. Otherwise, I think not. Not with Freddie and KP and their talent (or lack of) playing spin. 263 is the follow-on target.

Pakistan reached in the end 462, being all out just after lunch.
