too much time for gym

    Hi,

I'm a 27 years old, 6 2'' (189 cm), 175 pounds (81kg) male and started going to the gym 3 weeks ago. I went 6 days a week until now, but from what I'm reading 3-4 max is recommended. I do mostly weights, and 10-15 mins of cardio each session. After that I go for a swim, about 30 min total (I can only swim 1 length/max 2 at a time, I know, pathetic).

I still have to try 1-2 sets, 8-12 reps with larger weights (until now I was doing 2-3 sets, 20-30 reps with smaller weights)... like I said, I've been reading

So my (unusual maybe) problem is: I want to go to the gym more than 3 times a week, I have the time and I like the 'morale boost' it gives me. How should I structure my sessions, to get max efficiency?

btw, I'm looking mostly for definition, and just a bit of bulking up...

    Thanks a million! great board!

Lots of people harp on about over-training like it's an easy thing to achieve the fact is over-training is relatively difficult and takes a combination of factors including session intensity and frequency, quality of sleep and quality of diet.

Personally I train twice a day with 1 day off a week. In the mornings I usually get my cardio out of the way 30-45mins depending on the type of session. Then in the evenings I'll start my split:

    1.) Back and biceps
    2.) Shoulders and traps
    3.) Legs
    4.) Chest and triceps
    5.) Off day
6.) Back and biceps - cycle starts again

My off day isn't a particular day of the week. If I'm feeling tired or overworked I'll take a weights session off or a cardio session off or both. Alot of how you train should be based on intuition and self-knowledge.

Most of my weights sessions will be between 60 and 90 minutes. Most of my cardio sessions will be between 30 and 45 minutes.

I split them out to twice a day because personally after weights I couldn't do CV work and after CV work I wouldn't have the energy to do any cardio.
