Also, it can be one or two people per act in the open mic. We have two guitar leads and two microphones!!!

    How many songs are needed??

Fairly new but wouldnt mind doing this :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

Well if there are 8 or less acts on the night, its 3 songs each. If its between 8 and 12 acts, its 2 songs each and then 1 more song in the final. Its a good place to start practicing in front of a crowd.

Also, it's a good idea to ring and book a slot 2/3 days in advance!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭I am MAN

If it's an ongoing thing I may be booking a slot in a few weeks, not quite confident enough yet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

    hey jazz man,

yeah i saw the sign up for this the saturday before last! I think i will. Is the crowd fairly conservative or anything like the 12ten crowd on a saturday?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

It's a different sort of crowd mate. Conservative compared to a house music night! The crowd is usually the musicans friends!! Its your crowd. Just gimme a buzz man if you have any questions.

Did this last night, It's well worth going to - good experience!
Standard is decent. I played abismal though ha ha, but enjoyed it. I'd recommend it to anyone thinkin about doin it!

Hey. I assume this is over-eighteens only? If it's not I'd be interested. If it is I don't suppose you intend doing an all-ages one?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

Unfortunetly, it would be in accordance with the bar licence. So seeing as its on at night, well it would be over 18's. Sorry about that. I think that there is an all ages open mic on in Slattery's on Capel street at some stage. Give them a ring and ask for Paddy Fogarty. Sorry mate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

No worries man. Thanks anyway. No hope of an all-ages version at any stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 750 ✭✭✭Bungalow Bill

I'd be interested. I've played at one or two of these things before though and they weren't really that good. Its sometimes really difficult to make yourself heard. Is it like that here? Or do people actually listen to ye!!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,476 ✭✭✭ShriekingSheet

the sound is fine - mic sounds good and yeah people do actually listen, that's generally what they come to do it seems!

Oh cool, there's nothing worse than indifference to you when you're performing. I'll get a few tunes together and hopefully do it next week or the week after. I've got one problem though, my guitar isn't semi-acoustic. Are you allowed use a proper electric or is there a semi in the place?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

It's gotta be semi ecoustic unfortunetly, you could maybe borrow one from a mate or we could try get you one on the night??!?!

do you want people with original material?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

Its not all origional. Play want YOU want people to hear you sing!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 164 ✭✭tibilt

that's a really nice way of putting it. thank you. and i will.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 164 ✭✭tibilt

how come you don't do full electric guitars?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

Most Open mics for singer/songwriter dont do full electric. We always did it this way. It's a small enough venue. Its an open mic where people listen to your songs instead of talking over them. I feel its better to keep it like this. No complaints so far!

Does this thread just manage to arise from the depths in time for every weekend? It's hilarious i seem to see it at this point of the week every week for ages now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

I dont mean to affend man. I just really need new blood down here. Want to get the place a good name. The talent is unbeleiveable at the moment, i would like more people down to recognize it. Is that a problem????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 211 ✭✭Jazzman

PS. Nidge, why are u trying to dis this discussion???? I'#m just trying to get more musicans down to the night!!!!!! Its a good place to meet contacts, and if Im not mistaken, it seems like your looking for contacts too. I dont mean any disrespect but dont dis what you dont know!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 560 ✭✭✭Nidge

Too many exclamation and question marks. You have gotten me completely wrong and are overreacting. I was merely pointing out that it arises every week at some point. I have viewed the thread a number of times, and would love to participate myself only i am a few months shy of being 18. I have no problem with you getting new musicians to come down. It seems, recently, anytime someone says something that's neither here nor there people take offence. Anyway good luck, glad to sort out about zees meex up.

my bad buddy, like I said in many of my posts, I hope its ok to refresh this thread. Laters.

We are thinking of pulling the 100uero prize from the open mic for maybe 8 weeks and still running the night but each week 2 people go through to have a song put on a cd that we would release after the eight weeks!!! Thoughts please????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 612 ✭✭✭Phil_321

Tbh, I'd say people would be more interested in the €100 than having a song on a non-label, unpromoted compilation cd.
