Bed Wetting

A friend of mine, who is 18, wet the bed last night.

We were out drinking and he woke up this morning and said he had wet the bed and thought it was funny.

Fair enough he had been drinking but so had every1 and we managed to control our bladders and even he has had far more to drink himself and has never done it before.

I also think he just never bothered to get up because his entire bed was soaking, quilt, sheet and matress.

Is this a one off or do you think my friend has a problem?

    I feel your pain

Well, if he does have a problem, its not something he'd really want to be talking about :p So don't press the issue. I'd let it go as "just a once off". Unless he does it a few more times :p

Make him pay for it to get drycleaned!

One of my mates drank himself to the point of pissing himself in bed that night before. He didn't remember a thing about it, and didn't think it was funny, but there you go.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 201 ✭✭Ren0

Well, i just found it strange cos we all had roughly the same amount of drink and we never pissed the bed.

The guy is actually a well established member of boards.ie so i'm sure he'd appreciate the help.

I don't want to adopt the serious approach to the issue with him incase he gets embarassed/Violent.

Any advice on how i can approach the topic with him?

Your "friend" probably shouldn't worry about a one-off, but itf it happens repeatedly...

an ex of was a chronic bed wetter until he was about 16...

i mean, discuss it and get help and all, but when the problems sorted... dont tell people

    especially girlfriends
    /me shudders.

I don't think you need to say anything, it's an awkward one and he may have laughed it off.. but I'm sure it went deeper than that for him. If he wants to bring it up again let him.. but I'd leave it out of respect for his privacy. It's a very embarassing thing to happen and has a horrible stigma attached ... which isn't fair as it is a lot more common than you'd think.

im sure you, i mean, your friend was just very drunk and had a dream about going to the toilet and wet the bed.
its not that uncommon. im sure most people have something similar happen to them or someone they know.

Don't see what the worry is, I know a few people who have pished themselves (and worse) after a night on the beer. It's not that uncommon tbh.
If it's happening regularly then maybe something to worry about but otherwise just slag him (or not, if he's the sensitive type) and forget about it.

a good few of my friends have pissed the bed from drinking too much. It's not uncommon at all. One even pissed a mates couch :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭SprostonGreen

I did it once, I was about 20 and was famously locked. Never happened again that was about 10 years. Its no big deal, well except I was in digs at the time.

lol at what sheep said then lol at "I don't want to adopt the serious approach to the issue with him incase he gets embarassed/Violent.". he is (it is a he) going to go a funny shade of crimson and then beat you around the place. not that would be funny

Rub his face in it everytime until he learns. Failing that whack him over the head with a newspaper. Works every time.

What are you worrying about? It is funny?

I have pissed all over my girlfriend more than once, when I was in Thailand during the Summer I wet the bed close to ten times, I've pissed all over my couch, my bed, her bed etc.

I think its ****ing hilarious, it's only when I really binge drink and I was sedated in Thailand also so that caused my body to relax more.

Enjoy it while it lasts, at least I do. haha.

In fairness, even for 1000 baht, you can hardly call her your "girlfriend".

LOL, I could have a wife for that in Thailand!!

    Um..don't?

What's the problem? It's his business and clearly he's not embarrassed about it, so why bother? Anything more is your problem and doesn't need to involve him.

I wish i was as funny as you 2.

Anyway back to people who's opinions actually matter.

I think it was a one off and will no longer pursue the topic with him.

    Ren0, chill out.

Yeah okay, wetting the bed can be a sign of underlying emotional problems in children and young adults, and indication of medical problems in older people.

In the stociously drunk, however, it's a sign of being stociously drunk.

It's hardly the most attractive of characteristics in a friend, but alcohol hits people differently on different days. You shouldn't decide that "just because he didn't drink loads I think it's weird".

In the past, I've had legendary drinking sessions where I remain happily merry throughout with no hangover. I've also had sessions where, on less alcohol, I lose hours of my night and (on one occasion) apparently tried to climb out of a moving taxi. Alcohol is so popular specifically because it modifies behaviour. As long as you didn't have to clean the bed, don't worry about it.

Apparently it IS common enough - was talking to a group of guy friends before and pretty much all of them had done it more than once. Always after a load of drink

I have a mate who actually was sleepwalking, went into his parents room.. stood on the bed and pi**ed all over his dad..... he was about 25 at the time.... i would have loved to hear the conversation over breakfast the next day.

Me and my mates where only talking about this a few weeks ago and it has happened to every single one of us over the last few years and we are all in our 20's so i would say it is fairly common for it to happen to somebody.

For all of you taking the ahem piss out of this situation, let me just give it to you from my point of view, i'm 29 and have been wetting the bed for a few years, always after drinking could be after one pint or twenty I just never know ....has seriously f**ked up my self esteem ...never went out with anyone as could never face the whole staying over situation, never stayed in friends houses just in case, who as they didn't know thought I was being very odd etc...went for years saying absolutely nothing until one night had no option but to stay over in a friends house and it happened, had to go through the whole mortification of getting her duvet cleaned etc etc and just cracked ...went to the doctors who could find nothing wrong ....was basically given tablets that stop you producing urine when you take them (very handy for festivals !!) ....still hasn't gotten to the root of the problem and is always at the back of my mind.....sorry for the long post but think its something that's not reallt discussed and can really affect someone, like it has me.

I've never wet the bed, but i did pass out in a bar in a hotel in belgium at about 3AM, then apparently woke up, walked the exact path as if i was at home and walking from the bedroom to the the bathroom, and proceeded to piss into a big flowerpot.
I know lots of guys (and one girl) who have pissed/crapped in/on beds chairs and couches while ratarsed drunk and unconscious.

The same amount of drink can have very different effects on any given night.
The guy is actually a well established member of boards.ie so i'm sure he'd appreciate the help.

Well if he reads this there goes the softly softly approach :D
Anywho, yeah I don't think it's a problem that needs to be addressed, unless he keeps soaking stuff you own.

Jeez I was thinking to myself it was fairly common for ppl to wet the bed but I haven't done it myself then I read yur post and got a memory jog of being on the piss and going to sleep then I vividly remember actually getting up and going to the toilet BUT then I actually woke up and managed to remind my bladder I was really in bed before a crisis occurred :) I was totally bursting as well so while it's sorta only happened once I can defo see how it might happen.

As for questioning if yur mate has a problem it's possibly not really something u should bother him or yurself over reno.

    (a) Has he been engaged in violent activity recently, expecially towards animals, starting fires etc.? (b) Has he been engaged in other anti-social behaviour, acting out, mood swings, etc.? (a) & (b) might be pointers to talk to a doctor.

If this is a one off, I wouldn't overly worry about it and put it down to excess drink, but if it happens again it might point to (c) urinary problems (d) that he should cut back on the booze.

....was basically given tablets that stop you producing urine when you take them (very handy for festivals !!)
it can be *extremely* dangerous to drink large amounts of liquid while on those, especially alchohol, talk to your gp, if u have been doing that, you may have damaged your kidneys.

    im serious.

when in bed with a past bf i noticed the bed was wet now the guy was very very drunk night before and had a basin beside bed, i put it down to thowing up so hard that he wet him self a little but its nothing to be ashamed of... sh!t happens and the best thing is to let it go now if your mate knows he has a problwm laughing it off could be nerves if he doesnt have a problem he mayhve laughed to cover up the embarasment just let it go

Drink does strange things to the human body!
