Why is BT able to offer 512K ADSL on 99.8% of lines in the UK? How did they get over the distance limitation? Why can't eircom do this?

BT pass 100% of lines for 512K ADSL. If you get your modem and it does not work, they send out an engineer, who will fix the phone line and/or install a plate to fix bad internal wiring in your house.

They will try everything they can to make sure it works. In other words, unlike Eircom, they actually want to sell broadband to as many people as possible.
