Perhaps this can be made a sticky?? Hanza? Bombidol?

Only post here questions you may have about wrestling which wont lead to discussion, be it IWW, NWA, or WWE, WcW etc.

We as forum contributors answer and move on.

This way it could be a nice 'one stop shop' for any questions which need answering.

how many ecw wrestlers have made it to wwe?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Depends on what you mean by 'make it'.

There have been RVD, Lance Storm, Dreamer, Raven, Taz, Justin Credible, Balls Mahoney, Mick Foley to name a few.

Of those argubly on RVD and Foley 'made it' in a wrestling sense. Storm and Dreamer are trainers in OVW i think. Taz never really got a good in ring run. Raven was the most wasted talent WWE/F ever wasted.

    Sorry mate, but that's rubbish.
Savage was bitter about his divorce with Elizabeth. Apparently she crashed over in the Boella house with Hogan and the wife and kids. Savage took it up completely the wrong way, blamed Hogan for his marriage failing.

They didn't get on well for a couple of years until Savage's contract was up in WWE, (the black eye you see Hogan sporting at Wrestlemania IX is from when Savage decked him the night beforehand). Savage contacted Hogan to get him into WCW and they worked for a bit.

History repeated itself around 2000 or something when Savage blamed Hogan for his failed relationship with Stephanie Bellars (Gorgeous George), he's been also known to use the "Hogan and the NWO wouldn't put me over" story.

Personally, i don't think Savage ever got over from being a main eventer 2 wrestlemania's in a row to being a midcarder the following one. And was just bitter against Hogan.

    Hope this helps.

Shane Douglas had two runs in WWE, both unsuccessful.
in 1990 he was actually a substitute Rocker, teaming with Janetty while Michaels recovered a dodgy knee (legit apparently) for a couple of weeks. He also lasted over 20 minutes in the 1991 Royal Rumble.

Then there was 1995, Dean Douglas, who basically didn't get on well with the Kliq, and ended on his ear by the end of the year.

Louie Spicolli I believe did a run in ECW, but that was after WWE i think, he was Rad Radford

Chris Candido as Skip, didn't take off as he was overshadowed by Sunny.
Surprised Steven Richards and The Blue Meanie weren't mentioned.

And WWE had huge plans for Tazz, but he was too injured for them to follow it up. Hell, they had him destory Kurt Angle on his debut. :)

I guess this is prolly irrevelant now since the election is over & everytin, but does NE1 else think the WWE should have kept politics out of the ring, considering the whole La Resistance thing.

I guess it was a good gimmick 2 get the Rock 2 return, but i really thought they could have done it many other ways, that didn't include him coming back as some Captain America guy 2 protect his country.

Then again the whole storyline was prolly just another way 4 the U.S.A 2 celebrate themselves.

Like c'mon if you ever need a posterchild 4 how patriotic Americans R then you need look no further than the WWE.

Back on topic. Question 4 y'all.

What exactly is the story with Tazz? Whats keeping him out of the ring? If injury, what exactly? I remember how big a push he was given when he first appeared on the WWF scene. Is there any chance of him wrestling at this level again? Thanks.

He was quite badly injured at Wrestlemania 2000 when Hardcore Holly bashed Crash with the candy jar. Tazz had the Tazzmission on when Crash took the shot. Tazz was out for a while but made brief appearances. He does one off's although he hasn't done any in a while.

He's also very happy announcing, so i can't see him giving up that gig.
His last singles match was on RAW in January 2002 weeks before the Royal Rumble against Curt Hennig, he then won the tag straps with Spike Dudley, but that lasted pissing time and he hung the boots.

Fraid not, given how big DX were before Brian Armstrong was even part of the group. Vince had the name copyrighted. What you might be thinking of was the gimmick match at Fully Loaded 1999, where the battle for the DX name, Billy Gunn and Chyna Vs Road Dogg and X-Pac. Road Dogg and X-Pac went over, but that didn't stop them from dragging the tiring angle out to 2000!

Remember folks, Chyna, HBK and HHH were the real DX. Don't let em tell ya any different.

A few noteworthy members of the ECW/WWE club missing. Rey Mysterio, Dean Malenko, Benoit, Jericho, The Dudleys, Public Enemy had a short stay, Eddie. The list goes on and on really. But lets not forget the most successful of all the former ECW guys, Stone Cold Steve Austin. In fact it was in ECW that Austin actually lit the flame that would become the rampaging bigger than the business gimmick that was Stone Cold. Anyone who hasn’t seen Austin’s ECW stuff should hunt it down. If you liked Big Show’s “showster” wait till you see Austin rag on him. It’s great.

Anyone know when or even if, Steph is coming back 2 Smackdown or maybe Raw.

Also can someone tell me what the deal was with Vince, Shane & the baby @ one of the PPV's. Granted Shane wasn't in the PPV in person, throughout the show they had some trailers & pics of Vince with Shane & some baby. So was it to show the new generation of McMahons, i.e. is that Shane's kid or what was going on.

    Thanx in advance

The theme was "Where it all begins again", and Marissa McMahon had given birth mere months before the event, so it was just put in there to co-incide with the theme. Which i think it did perfectly.
That was Shane's kid on that promo.

As for Steph, here's hoping that she's not personally, she annoyed the living **** outta me :)

ah, mis-read your post - anyway the full story behind the "crapping" can be found below

"Close-friend of Hulk Hogan, and major Florida radio jockey Bubba the Love Sponge recently took shots at "Macho Man" Randy Savage. He did this because Savage was badmouthing his friend, Hulk Hogan, on WrestleZone Radio. He asked his listeners to ask Savage eight questions if they ever saw him:

    (1) Why did Gorgeous George break up with you? Is it because you tried to have a three-way with her and her sister?
    (2) Did Road Warrior Hawk really kick your ass backstage at a Kid Rock concert?
    (3) Did Brutus Beefcake really kick your ass and pull your pants down at Hogan's house?
    (4) Did you really sh-- your pants at Gold's Gym?
    (5) Why did you shave your eyebrows?
    (6) Do you use hairplugs?
    (7) What is Nubain, and how much do you spend on it per month?
    (8) Why did Elizabeth break up with you and get with Lex Luger?"

Whether the crapping is true or not - that is obviously known to Hogan,Savage and Bubba

Although i still hope Steph comes back.

Another question if i may. Anyone know when the Angle !!U SUCK!!! chant is going to end. Granted it's only a gimmick but i think this is prolly the longest a chant has ever lasted. There has of course been others, like the Austin ''WHAT'' chant but Angle's chant seems 2 be going on and on & it's starting to bug me, coz i think Angle is one of the best in the biz @ the moment and dont deserve this.

B4 you say it, i know alot of chants last even after a wreslter has left the Biz, such as the Macho man chant u mentioned, but that has 2 do with the personal life of Macho Man.
Angle's U Suck chant was part of a storyline on Smackdown so should have ended by now. Come to think of it, that chant has been going on even since Hass and Benjamin were tag team partners 4 Angle. D'ya member, i think it was the Team Angle storyline, & that was like a year & a half ago. So i think it's time to retire the chant.

Knowing Angle, it's probably an crybaby attention thing to be honest, he hates the What? chant with a passion, even outside of the ring because nobody will let him talk. But some things just stick, and some thing won't be forgotten, after all, very few people forget that Billy Gunn once had a porn moustache and mullet when he was one half of the Smoking Gunns, or Bob Holly's stint in WWE as "Sparky" Thurman Plugg (basically taking the piss out of STP oil and Spark Plugs, way to go WWE creative!)

Angle brought the U Suck chant over as a face telling Hass and Benjy that the people chant U Suck because "he earned it"! It was his intention to get the crowd to stop. But sh*t sticks i guess :)

Personally, i don't have a lot of time for part timers anymore :)

The U Suck chant was not part of a storyline on Smackdown it was a creation by the fans and continued due to the fans.It would have made its first appearance around 2001 I'd say.The original(and best)version was "U Suck, what?"but not many fans use the "what" bit anymore.

At the moment, there's no real active wrestlers using a past wrestler's music.
Tomko comes out to Christian's and Rosey to Hurricane's but they're associated with them so doe'snt really count.

Teddy Long still comes out to Rodney Mack's theme even though he has'nt managed him for about a year ( Suppose Rodney won't be needing it now )

And of course Jerry Lawler has the infamous King music that Harley Race and Haku used

There has been many in the past though, one that springs to mind is the Sultan's that Tiger Ali Singh then used and , if i'm not mistaken , Lowdown also.

The most famous has to be "Real American" by Dillinger. Originally supposed to be for the American Express of Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo , Hogan loved it when he heard it , and so Vince of course gave it to him , and the rest is history.

Shortest amount goes to Yokozuna, who on his first reign, had the belt about 2 minutes before Hogan squashed him. Andre could also come first here too as i'm not sure how long he had the belt when he got it from Hogan on SNME in Feb 88 before he surrendered it to DiBiase

Longest is a legend being Bruno Sammartino who held the belt for just under eight years.

Iffy one here due to the dispute between the NWA and WCW, so the world title that you see today was created in 1991.

Most times currently goes to Ric Flair, who has held it 16 times. It was the NWA belt for 10 times, then WCW belt for 6 times.

Tatsumi Fujinami was the first one when the NWA split from WCW, but the official first one was Orville Brown. He lost it to Lou Thez who held the belt for seven years after that, making Thez the longest ever NWA world titleholder.

Shortest was Harley Race who had a reign for two days before he lost it back to Ric Flair in 1984.

Why did WWE get rid of the midgets?

Depends on what time yer referring to.
Around 97 when they had them, they were being booed out of the building. Everything else was a rehash of the Bret Hart skit the day after montreal.. (E&C bringing out midget hardyz and dudleyz, Rock bringing out midget booker t), the joke was just dying, and a horrible death at that.

Besides, they didn't get rid of the midgets, they still have Tazz there ;)

It's not that it's a Brand Only thing, it's the fact that Smackdown is taped and can be cut to fit Tough Enough in, whereas RAW is Live, therefore a live audience would have to sit through Tough Enough.

In a nutshell, MTV decided not to take another year of TE seeing as TE III was a flop in their view, thats why Smackdown are showing it now, because they've nowhere else to air it. Al Snow is still training on it, along with Bill DeMott.

The chances are MTV may also drop Heat, although that always did better than Tough Enough anyway.

You sure you're not referring to where he got shot in the neck when he saved a woman from being raped in the back of a car? Apparently he's recouperating but god knows when we'll see him back in the ring.

If he does come back, it'll be TNA hopefully, because WWE wouldn't have a clue what to do with him, probably give him a mop and say "here, work this".

Yeah, i hope he goes to TNA too... because i don't want him boring me to tears in a WWE ring. The only time he was mildly entertaining was in the WCW "Revolution" gimmick when he was bulling Malenko, apart from that he was born to wrestle on Heat.
The only reason he got that match with HHH, can't remember if it was for the title or not but HHH was definitely champ and for him to be on Heat was a rarity, was because they were both trained by Killer Kowalski.

He was fun to see with WWA in the point but the card was'nt exactly flowing with future hall of famers , and fair play to him for helping that woman, but sorry , never done it for me.

Yep, it was a Desire promo for The Rock. There were a number of Desire promos, they are as follows:

    Kurt Angle: Clocks By Coldplay
Jeff Hardy: Not Enough By Our Lady Peace
Triple H: Beautiful Day by U2 (aired originally on Vengeance 2001 to try and make up for his absense when they advertised his return prematurely for that PPV)
Undertaker/Steve Austin and Edge: My Sacrifice by Creed
Undertaker solo: Adrenaline by Gavin Rossdale
WWE History: Lonely Road Of Faith by Kid Rock
    WWE Superstars: Weathered by Creed
Chris Jericho: King Of My World by Saliva (also used at Survivor Series 02)
Mick Foley: So Far Away by Staind
Matt Hardy: Live For The Moment by Monster Magnet
Chris Benoit: One Thing by Finger 11
