Am I getting enough exercise????

I have started a new job and I am sitting all day at a computer. I drive to work as it is too far to walk or cycle. I soccer train twice week with a match at weekends. Am I getting enough exercise or will I eventually become unfit and over weight from my lack of movement on the other 4 days of the week? Any advice would be appreciated.

How far is it from your home to work? Are there showers in work?

I have a battery hen (sit and produce) job too.

I go to the gym at least twice a week and spend about 80 minutes there each session between cardio and weights. I'm keeping toned and trim from that (actually building muscle mass, and losing weight) and practically nothing else. If your soccer training + match keeps your heart rate up in the cardio range for prolonged periods and you're not eating too much (input roughly equal to output), then you should be fine on the cardio and weight front.

You might want to consider some upper body exercises to keep yourself toned there though. After a few years of sitting on my hole, they've made a big difference to my shape over the past few months. Your call.

    Hope this helps.

What do you mean about producing the same amount of output as input.

For brekkie I usually have a large bowl of All Bran or Porridge. Lunch is a salad or ham sandwich using brown bread. Dinner can be anything between a chicken curry and brown rice to potatoes, vegtables, meat and some sort of sauce. I might snack on cereal (e.g. All Bran, Special K, Weetabix) in the evening without milk, or some fruit. Does this sound ok.

Also at weekends I usually tend to pig out and eat all around me. Is this ok as long as I am good during the week??

Your diet during the week sounds good. I tend to pig out too odd days, but I get plenty of exercise, so I know that it's ok. There is a simple rule, calories in = calories out.

If you eat extra and don't exercise to burn up the excess calories, then you will put on weight. Try and walk or run for a 1/2 hour every evening. It's a simple thing to do, but it will go a long way.

More or less what dudara said....I mean that overall, you're not taking in more energy (calories) than your body needs. If you're small in height, or have a small muscle mass, then the amount of energy your body needs is going to be less than someone who's tall and/or muscular.

Your weekday intake sounds pretty good to me.

Try not to stress out about it too much :) You'll notice it quickly enough if you're becoming a bit flabby......If that happens, just ratchet up your exercise, or start eating a little bit less.

It sounds like you're doing enough for cardiovascular fitness.

You should be fine overall. :)

Three cardio sessions a week is commendable. I wish I could say the same. It is more than enough to stay fit. Now whether you look fit is down to your diet. I would try and doing some weights or even callisthenics (bodyweight conditioning exercises).
