Rumours are flying about the place that Plus has closed down (rather abruptly), after Sky and ITV agreed a last minute deal for them to carry the channel.

Nothing official has been announced as of yet. ITV's website still says that the channel isn't on Sky, and Plus' website is still active.

    Very wierd...

Just noticed that plus has gone from transponder now, it was at 12.222 H

Latest word is that Granada Plus is gone for good. ITV has bought out GSkyB. No word on what they will do with Men and Motors.

Now have to go home and see what's happened on NTL...

Official announcement at plustv.co.uk . Channel closed at 5pm. ITV3 will pick up Plus' rights, though whether they will use them is anyone's guess.

It seems we have ITV3 on the irish epg, which is good news. Also ITV2 has moved on the UK FTV Card, I wonder if that will go FTA also.

Just checked the 'G54'transponder on Other Channels with ROI card, and it still says "porgramme unavailable in this area" so getting unsure wether ITV3 actually going to be available!

Plus ceases, ITV3 added to Sky EPG
Monday, November 1 2004, 16:46 GMT -- by Darren Shelley

    ITV3: Launches tonight
ITV plc announced today that it will take full control of the multi-channel operation Granada Sky Broadcasting (GSB) that operates Plus and Men & Motors

ITV has agreed to buy Sky Ventures' 49.5% share for £10m net of liabilities, from any potential sale of Men and Motors.

Following the acquisition, GSB's channel Plus which was established in 1996 with Sky Ventures and Granada Media as shareholders has ceased transmissions.

On digital satellite Plus has been removed from the EPG a short while ago, ITV2 then moved from its previous position of 175 and can now be found on 118 and ITV3 has been added to channel 119.

Men and Motors will continue broadcasting in its current form pending a review of its long term future.

Commenting on the deal, Charles Allen, Chief Executive of ITV plc said: "We are delighted that ITV3 will be available on all digital platforms from launch, reaching the widest possible multi-channel audience. Incorporating recent popular drama from ITV1 and the best of Plus into ITV3 will create the strongest possible proposition for viewers and advertisers. This deal delivers on our strategic objective to build the ITV family of digital channels and will enable ITV3 to maximise its potential."

ITV3 makes surprise launch on Sky
ITV's much talked about new digital channel ITV3 has unexpectedly launched on the Sky platform this afternoon. In a surprising move ITV struck a deal with Sky Digital earlier today for carriage on the EPG. There were mixed reports all last week about ITV3's possible launch on Sky but channel officials denied this saying that ITV3 will launch only on Freeview and Cable. With the addition of ITV3 on the Sky line up, a couple of other changes have also taken place. ITV2 has moved from EPG 175 to EPG 118 and the new ITV3 has been located next to ITV2 at EPG 119. Also to note is that Plus has been replaced with ITV's new channel.

The reason behind the move is that ITV has today agreed to buy Sky Ventures’ 49.5% share in multi-channel operation Granada Sky Broadcasting (GSB) for £10m. In addition, Sky would receive 49.5% of any proceeds, net of liabilities, from any potential sale of Men and Motors. Following the acquisition, GSB’s channel Plus will become ITV3. Commenting on the deal, Charles Allen, Chief Executive of ITV plc said: “We are delighted that ITV3 will be available on all digital platforms from launch, reaching the widest possible multi-channel audience. Incorporating recent popular drama from ITV1 and the best of Plus into ITV3 will create the strongest possible proposition for viewers and advertisers. This deal delivers on our strategic objective to build the ITV family of digital channels and will enable ITV3 to maximise its potential.”

The newest addition to ITV’s channel portfolio, ITV3 will showcase contemporary British drama from the extensive ITV programme library with titles including Prime Suspect and Inspector Morse in addition to films and US acquired series. The acquisition of GSB further strengthens ITV3 by giving it access to an additional catalogue of popular titles including Cracker, Sherlock Holmes, The Darling Buds of May, Wycliffe and PD James. ITV3 begins broadcasting tonight at 21:00.

This is a fascinating development and very unexpected (mainly because Plus had denied they were closing - how little they knew of ITV's plans).

I wonder what TV3 will make of ITV3 repeating things like Parkinson so soon after their original air-time. Although I guess ITV3 have the repeats options sown up for the British Isles.....

TV 3 have had it their way for so long, I heard rumours that UTV will be on
before xmas. anyone else heard this?

    Word of caution.

There may be a days lag in the switch off of this channel on Irish cards.
The software may still be thinking that it's giving you PLUS untill the bots at ITV under spoilsport orders from TV3 either take it off the EPG in ROI or insert the "08" blue screen.

    Word of caution.

    I hope I'm wrong.

I was thinking that too, but did not want to say. TV3 keep your trap shut!

nope this channel is broadcasting free to air.. and will stay that way. I think. then again maybe it will not...just to clear things up.. only itv network and sky know the answer.

Looks like ntl:Ireland got caught off guard - Plus is just showing a messgae from ntl:uk saying that Plus has ceased broadcasting and has been replaced by ITV3 (it then gives the ntl:uk EPG numbers for ITV3).

On Lyngsat ITV3 is shaded in yellow which usually indicates a FTA channel.
