Being in trì D today gave me an idea.
First of all, trì D is a cafè in Dawson street through the medium of Irish. It is supposed to be all Irish speaking, but the menus are bi-lingual. The idea is good though.
Anyone that knows me woll tell you I love the Irish language. Unfortunately, mostly down to laziness on my part, my Gaeilge has degressed in the past few years. I've got a leaving cert coming up, and the standard of Irish needed for it is fairly daunting.
So, I'd like to propose say a weekly meeting in trì D for socialising, and Irish speaking. It would do wonders for participants Irish, and would be good fun. So who would be intersted? It can only do good for your Irish, no matter what level its at, and I wouldn't be afraid to go because you think you wouldn't have good enough irish, because most people going would be in pretty much the same boat. So, I'd like to know what the general opinion on this type of thing is.

[Edit: I know the sig is poor grammar, It's a stab at irony.]

tá suim mór agam sa project seo.

ach tá mo ghaelige uafásach. can i come anyway?

sounds like a good idea, I'm entering some irish speech competition, so it might be handy to have some practice speaking as gaeilge.

when would this be on, though? a weekday or weekend?

Sounds like a good idea, though I doubt my limited knowledge of Irish would help, unless the menu includes something by the name of "Platoon halt" or "Long arm, to the right, dress off"

Tà suim agam le an project. Tà mo gaeilge go hufàsach.
Don't mean to be all annoying and condescending but I'm trying to illustrate the point that the whole point of the thing would be to learn how to say things, and put them to use, as opposed to sitting and learning the rules in class, without practising. So, Of course you can come. It'd be better to have a group of people with weak irish aswell, so that we can all learn. Making and correcting mistakes are is the best way to eradicate them.

As reguards when, I'm thinking a weekday, after school timing, because we dont want to eat into peoples weekend. I'm thinking every Tuesday? It'd depend on when most people would be free though, obviously.

Is fuath liom Gaeilge, agus is fuath liom tusa!

Seriously though, tis a nice idea. But a ****ty curriculum has grown within me an intense dislike of our native tongue. Shame really...

Nice idea. Personally I'd just be going for the food. Yesterday illustrated just how bad my Irish is. Also, training on a Tuesday prohibits my attendance.

Déarfaidh éinne atá aithne acu ormsa nó ar Dee go bhfuil an spéis againn sa Ghaeilge. (Ba chóir go mbeadh teideal an snaithead seo "An Ghaeilge"...) Fuaireas A1 san AT im' scrúdú Ghaeilge. Is smaoineamh an-dheas é seo, bainigí taitneamh as. D'fhreastalóinn air, ach tá léacht agam go dtí 5in Dé hAoine agus ansin caithim an oíche le mo chailín & ní bheadh sé cothrom í a thabhairt liom toisc nach bhfuil Gaeilge aici...

It's a good idea.I'm not sure if I'd go along because of other commitments but it's definitely a good idea. And yeah the Leaving Cert Irish is pretty daunting at this stage, so I think I'll take up Business instead.

It could be any day, if you have training. Or it could be different days every week or something. Anyway, its all organiseable.

Sounds like a great idea (I discovered 'bout 2 am this morning that having conversations in Irish can be rather entertaining), but I don't know you people, so you all have a good time, etc.

I dont think anyone would mind you coming. I'd bring a friend so you arent a loner, then it'd be alright.

    Perhaps, perhaps...
(I've got no money right now and NaNoWriMo to eat up time, at any rate.)

Gaeilge go deo! So when's this first 'Féasta Gaeilge' taking place? Beidh mé ann agus béidir tógfaidh mé cara liom. An bhuil sé ceart go leor le gach duine?(sp?)

Huzzah I brought her in there before and were the only people speaking Irish there. There should be a discount for Irish speakers.

Deanfaidh mè è! Beidh mè ar muin na muice... (I love that phrase).
Yeah my Irish has gone own the drain. My grammer needs the most work but I wouldn't say no practising spoken Irish either. And those paninis are sooooo good...
and how, tell me how, do I get fadas as opposed to grave accents? Damn lack of keyboard skills. At least I won't be typing the leaving cert.
    I won't, will I???
That is just the sort of thing that no one tells me about until the day before the exam.

Hold down Alt Gr (to the right of the space bar) and press the vowel you want fada-icised. Oh, and if you want it to be capitalised, you'll have to hold down Shift at the same time, regardless of whether or not Caps Lock is on

An dtéann aon duine go dti an cumman gach Aoine?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 849 ✭✭✭Liquorice

Is smaoineamh maith é an tionscnamh seo ach tá mé ró-leisciúil chun dul chuig na cruinnithe i Trí D. Tá mé ag labhairt as Ghaeilge don chuid is mó de cúig nó sé laethanta in aghaidh na seachtaine ar aon nós.
