€199 seems good for a 250GB external drive. And Lidl's products do have good support - got a laptop power cable I tripped over replaced for free.
That laptop has similar specs to the one I got last year, though, and it hasn't
reduced in price at all. Unless my processor is a lot less than that (don't think so)...

The WD Caviar 250GB for 149e is great value.. why is it also labled as Targa?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,594 ✭✭✭forbairt

    not too sure ... possibley a typo ? :)

komplett's doing a 250 gb drive for about 172 or something .. add 10 onto shipping ... and 150 looks damn nice :)

do you need the power cable for the hard drive or can it run off the usb 2.0?

The external HHD comes with a 30 watt PSU

bah, anyone any more info on the internal hd? 2.5inch/3.5 inch?

the external one is good value but looks big and awkward, this is something i want to be able to carry around so i might consider buying the internal one and see if i can get a smaller caddy for it.

3.5" No such thing as 2.5" 250Gb HDD.

Not worth it if you go and buy a caddy you will push the price up to €200 anyway ( even from the net, with shipping it will cancel out any saving ) That external is good value, just save yourself the hassle and get it pre-made.

can this be used on the mac, the external hard drive? and also i assumed it must be plugged into a power source when you are using it and cant just run off the usb cable

The internal one appears to have the same drive inside it as the external...so it probably would be cheaper to buy a box and the internal one , to get the same effect as the external.

One site where we were cabling had 250MB hard drives. They were the size of a washing machine and vibrated in the same way. Myself I used to have an old 10MB RLL drive 5.25 full height (ie. two CD drives on top of each there). Back in the days when we used to upgrade PC's from 256KB RAM to a whopping 512KB.

The laptop isn't that good value tbh.The same one is available for 1399 from JES.

I'd have to disagree cos when you take into account that the jes machine has

    1) a different keyboard (see here )
    2) no wireless optical mouse (included with the LIDL machine)
    3) no usb memory stick (included with the LIDL machine)
    4) no usb light (included with the LIDL machine)
    5) no case (included with the LIDL machine)
    6) german software and hence german recovery partition etc which can be a pain
    7) a delivery cost of between €30 and €50
    8) a two year warranty while the LIDL one is 3

and 9) will take a few weeks to deliver

I think the lidl machine makes more sense, bargain wise at least

Thanks for posting this as I'd been looking to get some external storage.

Does Lidl have a store on Parnell Street or is that Aldi, I can never remember. Where is the best place to go on Thursday morning. I'll be in the city centre from about 8am..

I've only been using computers for two days so I didn't know that computer hardware actually improves over time. Simply amazing. I think it was self evident what I meant Captain

Correct they are the same drive but a case from JES is about €30 ( that's the cheapest ) Delivery will be €15-20, Oh and you have to wait for it, the LIDL drive is very good value.

Basically, the unit will have a video in socket / aerial socket. You plug this in to the device and the software will display the signal received allowing you to record it. Seems like a good price.

Which store is the nearest to town? That external HDD looks very tempting :)

You can get an internal Mercury (with a philips tuner) TV Card from Maplin for 50.

It also has S-Video in - Handy for finally transferring those VHS tapes to DVD.

    See http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=37701&TabID=1&source=15&WorldID=&doy=24m10 for details

There isn't any store in town yet. One should be opening in the Moore Mall (Where the new Jurys Inn is on Parnell Street) soon.

Until then, try the Blanchardstown Centre and Coolock Retail Park (With Woodies DIY and Toymaster) on the Malahide Road

See http://www.lidl.ie/ie/index.nsf/pages/c.s.s.index for your nearest store

I tried that page mate. The page is not respoding.

Oh well, Blanchardstown is a bit too far for me to go on the 28th. Hopefully, there's still some stock left on the weekend.

It will work and be acceptable, if you are a gamer don't go near it otherwise it's fine.

I went to the Baldoyle Store (well actually the missus went for me) at 10 am this morning.

There were only 2 external HDD left, well 1 now cause we bought one :D
The TV Box was sold out and most of the other items were close to being gone.

I'm not sure how much stock they got in, but it all seems to be going quickly.

Hi guys, i got one of those tv tuners in lidl this morning, guess what, it doesn`t work :(, i took it back and got a refund though, i`m not too impressed with lidl now, as i got a memory card reader from them that is supposed to be usb 2 but will only work with usb 1 ports :( I`m quite annoyed as i queued out in the freezing cold and rain to get 2 products that don`t work  Next time lidl can keep there great "offers", i`m not going to fight another granny for somthing thats not going to work any way. Btw the memory card reader is expesive at 20 euro and so is the memory, i could get both in flor griffin for less. The one thing that did work from lidl was a wirless keyboard and mouse, that was rather good. I wouldn`t go spend 200 euro on a drive there though. Btw lidl in clashduv road in cork still have a small few things left if you hurry, hope your goodies work lads

then the guy told me the tv tuners had gone missing and to wait

    so wait i did
after 40 mins the guy finally found them and everyone got there tv tunere :D

Remember that if yer buyin an External HDD chances are you'll need 2 USB ports for it to run cos a USB port by itself doesnt provide enough power to run a hard drive.

The caddy i got for using a 2.5" HDD as an external drive has a splitter cable on it and you have to connect it up to 2 USB ports.

So if you've got a laptop chances are you'll only have one or two USB ports so you'll either not have enough or you'll have none left over.

    Hope this helps

I was at Lidl in Blanch, around 9PM last nite, and they have at least a dozen (may be more) hard disks left, and a few Keyboards, and speakers and loads of webcam. I was looking for that cordless mouse with charger, but was sold out! :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

I bought 2 of the optical mice. Can't get them to charge at all. The scroll button flashes red, which I'm reading is telling me the batteries are nearly dead. Yet they've been both charging all night. Any ideas?

    thanks
    ambrose

Btw can the mouse charge off the USB port? or Does it have to charge off the mains? I must have a total of about 12 plugs coming off a twin socket :s
