Ah I was sitting in the room when they finished editing that.... That isn't too cheap, I think it's going to retail at £20 Sterling.

    UK RRP is £39.99. It's £30.99 on play.com

£16.50 sterling is a fantastic price for this boxset delivered to your door. I very much doubt if it is going to retail at £20 considering the RRP is £40 and the following retailers have announced their prices

    DVD Source @ £32
Play, DVD Popcorn & HMV (online) @ £31
    Amazon & Choices Direct @ £28

I very much doubt you will find it retailing this side of Christmas at less than £30 in the highstreet.

CD-Wow.ie is listing this at €29

I just ordered it from the Norwegien Cd-wow. Well spotted A Dub in Glasgow. As I am typing this I have of course just remembered that this is for charity. I can only soothe my conscience by hoping that the charity cut is the same and I am just saving on the tax/vat/greedy dublin retailers etc.

Warner paid the money to charity up front to get the rights for selling this title. The difference in price is down to the pricing structure for each retailer. Your consecience is clear!

Good find. Remember the day well. Don't know if I want to re-live it though. I used to like bands like Tears for Fears and this would bring home my ex-dodgy taste in music :o Good for present for someone else though.

Just ordered it from CD WOW Norway. Only €23.90c delivered. Just had to buy that.

I was living in London then, and on that memorable day my local pub was allowed to stay open all day and until well after midnight. They got in special [Large screen] Tv's, about six of them spread throughout the different bar's, they were on LIVE AID at [full volume] all day and well into the night. You could hear and see the live uninterrupted performances being broadcast all over the world from Wembley football stadium. The atmosphere in the pub and outside on that wonderful day was pure magic and everyone looked so happy.

A never to be forgotten day in my life, and I have always been grateful to Bob Geldof [A fellow Paddy in London] for what he achieved. It was magical.

Thanks for the "tip off"- A great price for something I will treasure until I die.

    P. :D N.B. and yes I and my buddies were all pissed legless, but I can still remember the trouble free packed pub, as if it was yesterday ;) .

23.90 is a great price however the tracklisting for the DVD is very disapppointing. It isn't even close to being a complete recording of Live Aid. Everyone knows that Page + Plant are not on there but there are *many* other performances that haven't made it onto the DVD either.

I would agree. This is a 4 dvd set - but why such a slim number of songs from Howard Jones, Thompson Twins, Nik Kershaw?

€23.90 is good value but I was expecting a little better regarding the selection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,575 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

You get 109 songs live during the Live Aid event with some backround material in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS over 4 DVDs for €23.90 delivered to your house.

That is a fantastic bargain

    Edit: Now down to €23.79!

There is no pleasing some people, who would not know a Real Bargain even if it got up and punched them in the mouth.

This is a genuine bargain, and for a wonderful cause as well.

God, save me from the greedy spoiled immature idiots in this world

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Live Aid did run for 16 hours on the day, but all we are getting is under 10 hours.
While I will buy it and support the cause, there is a part of me that wants the full day, as broadcast on BBC TV again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,575 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

You will have to make do then because the full event will never see the light of day on DVD

 Nobody's denying that 24 quid is a cheap price however the DVD *is* disappointing in terms of stuff that has been left out. Personally I would prefer to pay 100+ quid for a complete recording of Live Aid than pay 24 quid for one with a couple of hours of footage left out. People have been waiting years for this DVD to be released and the final product is not what it could have been.

I'm hoping that some of the missing stuff will be shown on TV next year for the 20th anniversary. In 1995 for the 10th anniversary, both RTE and BBC devoted several hours to showing footage from Live Aid, including some performances that are not on this DVD.

was a brilliant show (I was in wembley that day)
looking forward to seeing this and thanks for the tip-off on the price
if you really really want to get the full version then do some searching online as there are people with the full concert on tape, VCD and DVD-R who will trade with you

    BrianD3,

Then write a personal letter, requesting same, to Sir Bob Geldof, Chelsea, London SW, England.

I feel sure he would receive it, and reply, because he "Gives a damn" and if what you want can be made available. He is the one who could make your wish come true ?... as it would also mean more money going to the charity. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,575 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

BrianD3 - Unless all the artists agree to co-operate with the issue of a full event DVD, you will never see the full event on DVD. The highlights (& some lowlights) for me are there on the DVD, what is missing and speculate some reasons for their omission. Nobody will ever be satisfied with a product that does not show their personal favourites. For €23.79, the DVD (warts and all) from CDWOW is fantastic value for money and an excellent bargain.

If certain artists (eg Page, Plant and Jones) don't want to be on the DVD then there's not much that can be done about that. However I don't believe that artist non co-operation is the reason for all the omissions. A lot of the missing footage is probably due to time constraints

For instance: The performances of "Heartbeat City" and "Just What I Needed" by The Cars are on the DVD. But where is the performance of "Drive"? It was one of the songs that defined Live Aid for a lot of people. It was also the band's most famous song and was a great performance on the day. Plus it would have been a nice tribute to the late Ben Orr who sang it.

There are many, many more omissions too. I'm still going to buy the DVD and will enjoy it but am disappointed that it isn't more complete.

I didnt realise that drive isnt on it  Still brilliant price looking forward to listening and reliving the day :D

Sorry to keep harping on about this but I've done some more research on this topic and it appears the DVD is even less complete than I first suspected. According to one reviewer on amazon.com there are EIGHTY FIVE songs missing from the DVD. The reviewer lists them out too. So there are 109 songs on the DVD but 85 missing. Is it any wonder that people are complaining.

Well you know what you can do... Do not buy it!! Buy one of the bootleg versions.

If you were going to buy anyway, be thankful that this bargain at CDWOW exists as it will save you a bit :) Put the difference to a charity of youyr choice

    BrianD3,

Well, are you going to be realistically pro-active, and write to Sir Bob Geldof ?..as I suggested a few posts back, or are you just going to sit back and ignore him, as you did my post to you.

    WRT The Cars and Drive...

I dont think it was performed live by the band on the day itself, but the defining moment of Live Aid was when David Bowie introduced a video clip from Ethopia, accompanied by "Drive"

Drive was used as background music for a clip from Ethiopia - but it was also performed live by the band on the day. I have the performance on tape.

As for writing to Geldof, I'm looking into it and will probably do it. I don't know how much influence he will have with the distributors of the DVD but it's worth a try. AFAIK, the whole reason why this DVD is being released is because Geldof was appalled that pirates on ebay etc. were profiting from a charity event by selling recordings of the concert which was unavailable by any legitimate means up until now. Now it is available by legitimate means - but it's so incomplete that people will still turn to pirates to get their hands on the missing footage. I don't think Geldof wil be too pleased about that.

    BrianD3

Thats all the more reason for him to be informed that a legitimate market exists for a DVD set of ALL of the LIVE AID event.

He is a man,who is not to be underestimated, by anyone.

    Good luck ;)

    P.

CDWOW have updated the page and clarified that this release is the NTSC version. Most DVD players will convert NTSC signals to PAL and most newer TVs will handle NTSC so it should not be a problem for most people. Best to check how your DVD player and TV handle NTSC signals. Still region 0 so there will be no isues about needing a multiregion player.

WRT this DVD, I was listening to the radio today and there was some trivia quiz where they asked something like 'Which artist/band refused to allow their Live Aid performance be placed on the DVD?' Does anyone know who this is? Unless there were legal implications, this seems a bit mean spirited to me anyway, considering the good cause....

    Great find by the way.

Any news on whether the Irish government is going to hand back the VAT from the sales of this? Fat chance I suppose :( Therefore if any of you are buying it because the money will be going to charity (which charity by the way?) then you should get it from a British source as (in case you missed the news) all the VAT is being handed back there.

unless I was imagining things, I'm sure I saw somewhere that Bob geldof has asked all countries selling it not to charge vat and Ireland agreed. I could well be imagining it though as its not like our government to pass up any oppurtunity to rake in the coppers through tax! :D

VAT will be charged on this DVD in the high street, some governments will refund the VAT to the charity (not sure if the Irish government have agreed to forsake their take).
