I've come up with a two day split as shown below. Is this alright for starting out? Anything need to be added/changed?

    Day 1:
    Bench press
    Bent-over row
    Upright Row
    Bench Dips
    Lat Pulldown

    Day 2:
Squat or Smith Squat or Leg press
Hamstring curl or Stiff leg deadlift
    Calf raise
    Abs (probably hanging hip raises)
    Bicep curls

Also, I've read on www.exrx.net that you should increase the weight by 5-10% when you can do 12 reps in a set. I think this is more meant for the one set per excercise workouts which appear to frowned upon here - so how do you determine when to increase when doing 3x6 or 3x8.

One more thing, for squats I've read conflicting information on whether it's better to do 3x6, 3x8 or 3x12. What do you guys suggest?

Eveyones different when it comes to responding to reps/ses etc.
However the squat would be considered a compound movement (i.e involving secondary muscles to some extent) so generally a lower rep range would be better as you should be able to use a large amount of weight (obviously in relation to your level of experience)

Personally i use 6-8 reps for my compound movements, squat, deadlifts etc.
Try different things out. If it's not working after several weeks- change it, don't expect it to start working all of a sudden .
