Does anyone know if U2 have confirmed a venue or a date for the Irish leg of their tour next year. I heard today that they were playing the 26th and 27th of June in Croke Park. Can anyone confirm this? If this is the case, when are the tickets going for sale?

Ive gone onto the www.u2.com website but I dont see any mailshot. The whole site has changed due to the release of vertigo. Am I on the correct site?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 625 ✭✭✭ThreadKiller

Yup, that's the site. I signed up years ago, get a mail about every 6 - 8 weeks, offers/news/etc.

If you signed up it'll probably arrive in the next couple of hours (mine hit my mailbox at 05.47).

Limited to six tickets per member. Apparently retail will be limited to two...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 625 ✭✭✭ThreadKiller

Oooohhhh could be too late so...

They usually only announce it in the news on the day they fo on sale... I'm guessing before Christmas.

The Sunday Business Post had a piece yesterday saying they'd play Croke Park on 26th, 27th and probably 28th June 2005 but I've not heard anything anywhere else.

Those dates fit in nicely with the supposed headline slot at Glastonbury on the 25th.

    1. 'Vertigo' (3:07)
The first single, and as you'd expect, it's a corker. 'Vertigo' features a riff from The Edge as big as 'Beautiful Day', perfectly complementing Bono's cries of "Feeeel!" throughout the chorus. "Hello, hello, we're in a place called vertigo", he sings. It's an anthem, probable Number One single and an electrifying opening to the album.

    2. 'Miracle Drug' (3:54)
After the punky 'Vertigo', 'Miracle Drug' is much slower but still heavy. "Want to trip inside your head/Spend the day there", Bono croons. It's a love song with tribal drums and a massive guitar-led chorus. Could be a single.

    3. 'Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own' (5:02)
After two all-out rock numbers, 'Sometimes....' is the first ballad. Backed by simple chiming guitar and drums reminiscent of 'Where The Streets Have No Name', Bono sings "You don't have to put up a fight/You don't always have to be right....let me take some of the punches for you tonight". The feel is a lot like REM's 'Everybody Hurts'.

    4. 'Love and Peace or Else' (4:47)
An industrial growl and host of Nine Inch Nails-style noises hide Bono's whispering intro, before the song evolves into a clapalong, glammy chorus "Give me love and peace", Bono sings. It's the first hint of his political side, with references in to "troops on the ground". A thumping bassline makes it all sound a bit like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

    5. 'City of Blinding Lights' (5:44)
The second Big Stadium moment. Pretty piano opens the song, which sounds like an updated 'With or Without You', Bono's in reflective mood, singing, "The more you see, the less you know".

    6. 'All Because of You' (3:37)
'Achtung Baby'-era guitars back one of Bono's most confessional songs ever. "I'm not broke but you can see the cracks", he sings. The lyrics suggest that he may walk the corridors of the UN, meet with Presidents and be able to call the Pope on his mobile, but sometimes he'd just like to be simple old Paul Hewson.

    7. 'A Man and a Woman' (4:25)
If the first half of the record is direct, simple rock, from here on in it gets more chilled. 'A Man and a Woman' is the last of the straight-ahead rock numbers dealing with similar themes of lost love.

    8. 'Crumbs From Your Table' (4:57)
Compared to 'Vertigo' and 'All Because of You', 'Crumbs...' is one of the more understated songs on the album. Could probably have been a B-side.

    9. 'One Step Closer' (3:50)
An ambient-sounding track their old producer Brian Eno would have been proud of is the stand-out song on the second half of 'How to Dismantle...'. Bono's dejected, or in his words has "crossed the road from hope", but is resigned to his fate. "A heart that hurts is a heart that beats", he sings. It'll be the lighters-in-the-air moment on next year's stadium tour.

    10. 'Original of the Species' (4:33)
In keeping with the calmer mood of the second half of the album, 'Original...' has subtle, cinematic strings backing a pretty piano. It builds into an epic ballad which is classic U2.

    11. 'Yahweh' (4:20)
The title is the transliteration of the Hebrew word for the name of God, so it's appropriate what the closing song is a plea for peace. "Take these hands, don't make a fist", Bono sings, "take this mouth, give it a kiss".

    --. 'Fast Cars' (bonus track)
Unlikely to appear on the UK version of the album, this track is currently slated for inclusion on the Japanese pressing only. That's a tragedy for UK U2 fans as it's by far the most exciting song here. With a distinct Middle Eastern influence in the music, it's also where the line 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb' comes from.

The dates will be Friday 24 June & Saturday 25 June , with the allmost definate addition of Sunday 26 June .

24th and 25th of June have been booked at croke park, I'm working there on the new hill16 and information there is that 24th and 25th have been booked for a concert anyway.

reckon tickets will go on sale early in the new year jan/feb thats just what i reckon.

As I said " 24th and 25th of June" . I dont really matter where I found this out . As I was correct ..

But it came from someone working with U2 and MCD .

If it is 24th and 25th I suppose Clossing night at Glastonbury on the 26th is still possible.

    From NME.com

WHEN U2 COME TO TOWN - OFFICIALLY!

U2’s manager has confirmed the band will tour next year – but is still urging fans not to try to get tickets until they go on sale officially.

The band release their new album 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' next month (November 22), preceded by a single, 'Vertigo' on November 8.

Huge stadium shows in Dublin (Croke Park, June 26-27), London (Twickenham Park, July 2) and Paris’ Stade De France (early July, 2005) have long been rumoured – with one online ticket shop selling tickets for the dates last week.

Now, the band’s manager has confirmed the tour will take place next year, and has revealed where it will visit.

He told the band’s official website: "We are still very much in the planning stages of our tour for next year which will visit the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia, and the band is really looking forward to getting out on the road.

"As soon as we have finalised the plans, the tour will be announced and purchase instructions will be clearly available. Nothing is confirmed until the official tour announcement, no tickets will be on sale until after this time."

In addition to Comet's post it looks like they won't be going ahead with Glastonbury dues to clashes with the tour (from RTE)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,221 ✭✭✭BrianD

I wouldn't believe Threadkiller either. Pre-sales are exactly pre-sales and since there is no release date for the tickets as yet it would be a bit early for u2.com to be offering them.

I believe the ticket price is going to be €60 approx. Apparently the GAA were piling on the pressure for a higher ticket price.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 6,527 Mod ✭✭✭✭sharkman

Aparently , Ticket prices are going to be kept as low as possible .

U2 had looked at the Pheonix Park as a venue and members of the band were @ the Chillies Concert , They opted for Croke park as they wanted felt it was not "intimate" enough in the park .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,184 ✭✭✭SteM

Glastonbury organisers have confirmed that U2 will not be headlining next year's festival

Glastonbury head honcho Michael Eavis has confirmed that U2 have "reluctantly declined" an invitation to headline the festival in 2005.

"But," he adds, "their manager said they will do it at some point in the future. We're always talking to potential headliners from a very early date, because they're the most complicated act to sort out."

Whilst refusing to confirm or deny that they've now turned their attentions to Prince, Eavis admits, "We have sent someone out to the States this week to pursue an artist we want. Yes, they are American and yes, they are of superstar proportions. That's all I can say!"

The Somerset farmer was a little more forthcoming about the supports: "We're confident Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, The Streets and Snow Patrol will play. They're brilliant and I expect to see them here."

Looking at u2.com seems they will be relaunching the members area of their site again soon - from the News section.

Membership will be $40 but should gaurantee concert tickets.
Clever way of parting people with their money I guess...

Doesn't seem to be launched yet - I'd say in the next few days. Not sure I really want to shell out money just to be first in line for the tickets. If they are actually going to play two dates in Dublin then I'll probably take my chances.

If there is a chance however that through this you could buy 5 or 6 tickets then it would be worth going splits with a few people for the subscription and then cancelling when the tickets are obtained...

That article might be true but it isn't acurate "The gigs, on June 24 and 25, will mark the launch of the Irish group's European tour. " - wrong, the European tour kicks off in Brussels on June 10. Kings of Leon are supporting on the first leg in the US which kicks off in San Diego on March 28th. No support confirmed for Europe, official dates will be on U2.com on Monday.
