Howdy...looking to work on my arms , shoulders and chest. All ive done before is push ups/ sit ups but I got out of the habit and only started again recently. I can only do about 40 at a time as Im not used to them...

IS it worth doing push ups ? how many would I need to be doing a day to notice a difference and Do they work out the chest much or only the arms ?

Im thinking of getting a pull up bar , can you get ones that disconnect after you use em ? Would I better off just sticking to push ups ?

Also what do yea think of ab rollers ?

Sorry for all the questions - I just have no clue ! :) Thanks in advance.

If you can do 40 i would suggest a more intense exercise such as the bench press, if you have access to the equipment that is. Push ups are still a very productive exercise for the upper body - the problem people run into is that they reach a point where it becomes difficult to increase the intensity of the exercise. With a barbell you simply add more weight. You can make push ups more intense by performing them with your feet on a bench, or have a friend place a barbell plate on your back for the duration of the set.

Perform BOTH push ups (chest, tris, delts) and pull ups (back, bis, forearm, grip) in your routine as they are both very productive

Honestly, save your money and stick with regular situps/crunches. To increase the intensity of the situp perform it whilst holding a barbell plate firmly against your chest.

Good luck with your training Tusky!

pushups - hands far apart do chest, closer together will do arms
alternate between fast and slow sets
yeah you can get bars that are disconnectable
ab rollers are pants, you can do hundreds of "crunches" with an ab roller, stick to "natural" crucnhes
    1) lie on floor feet flat on ground, knees bent, hands clasped to chest
    2) lift your head/torso a few inches off the ground solely by tightening (crunching) your stomach, hold for 3-5 secs and release
    3) you need to hold this squeeze
    4) you can make them harder by bringing your knees up towards your chest.

You will know that you are doing them correctly if you cant do more than 20-25
