Matt was barred from the library several years ago when he was caught red-handed ripping pages out of various books.He used to regularly assault library staff when he encountered them on the street including one i ncident when he knoocked off a woman's glasses.At one stage the skip he lived behind was blocked in by somebody's car up westland row direction and he vandalised the vehicle.More recently he was barred from the college for sexually harrasing a female student in the arts block.The man is little better than a dirty old man with a violent temper and should be avoided alltogether and IF you do meet him in a pub for example,he'll mooch off you till the cows come home.

Or if you want to be in the film we'll be recording different people's accounts of him on Thursday 2nd Nov in Front Square.

It might be a good idea to have someone who actually signs to go with you if you're going to be interviewing him... make him feel more comfortable? Contact the sign language club, I'm sure someone there would be up for it.

Deaf people represent. (and no, I don't sign, sorry, I'm just after signing (ho ho) up for the sign language club on tuesdays!!

Yeah.Sign him the following questions "Do you assault people?","Do you destroy library property?","Do you sexually harass people?","Do you live in a skip?".

Security had him arrested by pearse street a few times after he'd attacked various staff members on teh premises,he then used one of the student rags to atttack people by name because he was barred from the library.The stuff he's still sending into the papers is complete gibberish,claiming he's written to prince william and all sorts of people.He's sick in the head and a disgusting old lecher.

Matt the Jap is, in fact, the rightful heir to the Japanese throne. He has walked the earthin exile since 1937, before settling here in Trinity. When The Emperor visited in 2003, Matt was taken ill.

No. The guy has been arrested for assault. He is a dangerous individual. That is a matter of fact, I'm not making them up, and I'll not pretend he's some form of foke hero on this forum. You started this thread, if you have a problem with these aspects of matt-the-jap being discussed close the thread, but don't be a bloody hypocrite about it, you've been in college long enough to know that my statement was completely accurate.

Apologies if I intimidated your leadership there, it's not like I could moderate if I wanted to. Though I understand that the point of a 'forum' is to voice one's (well-constructed) opinions amongst other people's, with a mind to generate coherent discussion. Which is what I'm doing: Liouville hasn't displayed any signs of having anything to offer the TCD forum, and seems to be there for inflammatory purposes only. I've never understood why people join forums to vent, and thus embarrass themselves (and in this case, the student body also).

It's implied that you know Liouville in person - and I bet you wouldn't tolerate similar behaviour from me.

All I ask for in forum discussion is adult (or at the very least, student) standards of politeness when doling out criticism. And I would have thought that was a pretty basic requirement when entering college, though Liouville seems to have slipped through that particular net.

Quiet frankly good chap, I find the fact that this baseless,unmerited, superfluous & baneful attack on the calibar of my character has been allowed to stand, is exhibitive of the degree to which Crash holds me in reverence.

I've talked to him a few times, through pen and paper, of course. He's not a bad guy at all. Some people really don't like him but I don't see why. And he's not deaf. You just have to raise your voice a little. He's banned from House 6 but that doesn't stop him from joining in when societies are having meetings or parties! It's unfortunate but because of the ban, people often try to make him leave and when he stubbornly refuses (I have no idea why the ban was imposed... anyone else know?), they get security to 'escort' him out. It's sad to watch because all he does there is have a glass of 7up and biscuits or whatever.

I never heard the story about him burning anything. What I heard was that when he was writing a paper in the old library years ago, he was using these really ancient books. He found spelling/ grammar mistakes in them and started to correct them with a biro or a highlighter or something. He got expelled but refused to leave Trinity. He'd sleep in doorways and try to get other students to let him stay in their flats. Eventually College got sick of the hassle and put him up in his own flat on campus.

You'll see an article by him in Trinity News from time to time. There was one last year addressing everyone, letting them know something about old Matt. I've heard he's fluent in quite a few languages. Another thing, apparently, he's not Japanese!!
