The Merrion are advertising a 50 freezeout for the first monday of the month no mention of Suited Aces. Whats the story?

I dunno anything about the above but I doubt I'll ever go back to the Merrion wether SA are organising something or not. I'm kinda used to card clubs trying to make their punters comfortable and enjoy the experience instead of fúcking them in the ass.

Kinda glad I didn't make it to the final table. I've got a short temper sometimes especially with people who go back on deals already made.

But hey, what does the Merrion care? They're after the high-rollers not scum like me.

    To summarise: **** the Merrion.

Where are they advertising this exactly? On posters/website? What info are they giving?

They're still advertising the free-roll on their website. They're missing out on the key demographic of internet savy high-rollers. Either that or the Merrion is run by muppets.

Actually forget the "either that or" part of the above sentence.

rather than try to continually rag on against the Merrion we have organised a meeting with them this evening to try and arrange a more 'comfortable' experience for all concerned.

Suited Aces would like to continue the relationship with the Merrion as it gives everyone a better choice and more tornaments for everyone to enjoy. There are things that we need to sort out and we hope to do this tonight.

As much as we may think otherwise what Hyzepher says is true. Ideally we would have choice in where we play our games, after all, variety is the spice of life.

I think it is dangerous to jump to any conclusions. I think it would be for the best if we work out the issues that players have with the Merrion and we can continue to have games in both venues. Then, with time, we should be able to expand the games in both size and frequency.

We at Suited Aces hope that, whatever happens in the next few weeks, you will continue to support our games wherever they may be held. When you support us you give us the power to negotiate on your behalf. Up until now players have had no voice. The games are set and you play them, if they don’t suit, too bad. Players wanted a 50 game, no-one was willing to run it. We got it. Players wanted a low stake game on a Saturday afternoon. We got that too. It is time for the players to tell the clubs what they want, not the other way around. We know it and the players know it.

I'm not jumping to any conclusions. I'm basing my dislike of the Merrion on my overall experience there. The only reason I've been there recently was for Payday monday and they've managed to fúck that up so much that I really don't want to go back.

Effectively they were trying to steal the money that you guys brought in despite a pre-agreed rake. I wouldn't go back to a car dealer that tried to rip me off, even he was the only other car dealer around.

And now they're apparently trying to steal the tourney/punters you guys brought in? Seriously, what do they have to do to make you go elsewhere? Hammer nails into your eyes?

    :boggle:

Or the Mayfair. I was talking to the manager in there a few months ago when I was rubbered and they seem open to suggestions.

Not a bad old setup, a couple of strippers gyrating around on poles wouldn't go amiss but beggars cant be choosers I suppose.

That table at Silks just looks too good to waste. How's about trying to organise the BSOP Final to be played there. That'd be so damn cool, well if I could actually drag my ass up the rankings.

INTERESTED IN SETTING UP YOUR OWN GAME PLEASE LET US KNOW IF WE ASSIST YOU

Talking of the Merrion, which you weren't. I played the Weds tournie - and they were advertising a charity tournie which took place tonight to benefit Make A Wish foundation - thing was they were charging €10 registration! Now, to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe this was donated too, but if it wasn't...........

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

The charity tourney in the merrion, which I had planned to play when I first heard of it, was as far as I know €150 with €50 going to charity. So any reg. fee presumably was to cover merrion costs.

Wow I got -7 Rep points for this post - if I cared I would be very upset ~ probably...

anyway I think I'm going to start a poll and a campaign to get rep disabled, it's obviously just being abused by people who are jealous of my BSOP ranking :D

yeah pretty much although I just got another -2, soon I will be in the red ~ which is probably fitting all things considered!

at least I know I'm getting to people, now if that can carry onto the tables I'll start making easier money :D

ok so now I have a total of -11 for my post from 4 different users ~ none of which were kind/brave enough to leave their names.

see Davey, you've been requesting people give you negative points without success, all you have to is show a sense of humour and you'll be slated ;)

all fun and games until someone loses an eye!

Hmm, I gave you +ve rep as I thought it was a funny post. Wonder is it working correctly... I don't think people pay that much attention to it though (I've never checked anyone's rep)

cheers Drakar, you will be justly rewarded don't doubt, and thanks to all the other believers we will defeat the infidels and rise up again and so on and so forth..

on a related note I see DeV unfortunately didn't qualify for this months final (sorry about that Dev, although it justifies my initial post so in a way I'm happy, while being very sad...) and yes I do realise that my rep will take another hit because of this but I can't help myself :D

Did SA get to talk to the Merrion and what came out of it? Are they doing their own 50 freeze-out from now on?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 375 ✭✭pokertroll

I notice they are in fact advertising a monthly monday night 50 freeze out.
Maybe they are assuming it is the SA event but if it is not endorsed by SA, it is their prerogative to run such an event if they think the demand is there.

Maybe SA should get on to them about it but why should SA care? Not trying to be controversial here, but great as the last tournament was, would there be any difference if the club ran the tournament itself? They only difference I could see was the clientele - It wasn't far removed from a regular Merrion tourney only the prize fund was lower. SA were looking for a 50 freezeout so maybe now they have one without having to do any of the work.

They are also advertising a new monthly 200 Euro Freezout, starting on Saturday October 9th with feeder satellites on Mondays (freebie) and in the hours preceding the event itself.
Which was really my point...why were they not 'donating' their costs, seems a bit tight
Why the hell should they? - I don't think it is anybodies business whether or not they donated their registration fee or other monies to charity. Personally I don't know, but c'mon, get off your high horse and stop looking for another excuse to criticise, they are a business and if they did take any money, it would not nearly cover the costs of running such an event. It might cover food and refreshments though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,696 ✭✭✭Hectorjelly

What is the point in the post poker troll? Why are you so desperate to defend the merrion against every percieved slight? Nobody said that the merrion wasnt free to run its own 50 Euro FO.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 375 ✭✭pokertroll

Sorry for upsetting you hector, I've been away for a while and was just responding to comments made at the start of this thread.
What is the point in the post poker troll?
I'm just stating my opinion of the matter in question (the subject of this thread) and some of the comments that have been made about the charity event. Isn't that what these bulletin boards are for?

Okay my comments may not have been unfavourable to the club (unlike a lot of the comments that have been made) but should they therefore be construed to be defensive? I don't think so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭karlh

    please not this again......

pokertroll does not work for the merrion.

everyone is not out to get pokertroll.

back to the event in the merrion:

any news on whether SA are running another payday monday freezeout or have they nicked it?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

I've generally agreed with alot of what you have said Poketroll in the past in defence of the Merrion. I'll have to talk to you about why last months SA €50 tourney is one time I will not agree with any defence. I'm not going to go into details on boards. I've been very careful not to express any opinion on the events that occurred.
I also think it's very important to realise that the demand for a €50 tourney on a monday night exists because the interest has been generated here. Boards & SuitedAces effectively brought the crowd to the game and I strongly think that if it wasn't endorsed here it would not succeed but that just my opinion.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 375 ✭✭pokertroll

Fair point Muso - yes you brought the crowd to the event and it would be unfair on SA if they were to push you guys out. As I said before, I don't know at all whether or not they are going on their own on this one. It is possible that they are just expecting an SA event but you know more about this than me. If you need any help dealing with the management of the club give me a shout and I'm sure I can help to turn things around in your favour.

BTW stop calling me poketroll! It is downright offensive!
