While checking out a link another Board member posted,I came across this Bargain. Sony Ericsson K700i (sim free) for €258. p+p to Ireland is €35. Payments via Paypal, cheque or money order.
I've been keeping an eye on the price of this phone for a while now and I can't find it anywhere else for less then €400.clicky linky

Just noticed price of phone €299. When I registered to the site the price becomes €258.Maybe some VAT thing but I went through the ordering process the toal came to €293.(phone+p+p) No mention of VAT.
€41 discount for registering with them :confused::confused:

    Hi there,

I note that Expansys have them available for €355 now a drop from €399 of yesterday. Still cheaper on the German site.

I got an e-mail to send proof of my address as Non-US PayPal A/C's don't have address verfication stats.

They would have to declare if they were refurb models though... wouldn't they?

    Hi Cableguy,

    Will do!

My order is still pending as of now. I was advised Monday or Tuesday for dispatch. I'll drop an e-mail tomorrow. A suggestion if you are getting one is to spread the order with someone here if you can as the UPS is expensive at €35.37 on the order. Obviously this idea will not suit everyone but worth a thought.

Anyway, I'll post when I have an update.

    All the best,
    Peter

    Ok Update,

By Wednesday lunchtime I had not got the tracking no. I droped a quick e-mail and was advised later that there was a delay due to having no SD cards in stock until the next day (today) and It will ship the.

I have since got an e-mail with the tracking no.

    Now for the waiting game.

    Have you any news Cableguy?

    Bummer,

I have just been tagged by GLS, another on-line order is been delivered by them. They have just left me a message saying that that can't find my address in their system. I am now on hold for more than 10 mins to try and put them right...........

I should have never asked who they were!!!

    Ok Back on track,

GLS completed their delivery today at 4:30pm.

Now the UPS site says that my parcel hasn't moved since Thursday night/Friday morning at 00:48. Is today a German day of rest or something?

    Anyday soon now.

    Fingers crossed,

There is also a review in The Register:
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/08/06/sony_ericsson_k700i_review/print.html
The human interface is identical to older models, with the Return key and the cancel ('c') key complimented by a five way joystick. Users coming from Nokia phones will find the 'c' infuriating. It serves just two purposes: backspacing over text input, and deleting entries from your phone book when you don't want it to.

I've seen a few others on-line too. Only negative I've seen is the battery life is not fantastic.

    All the best,
    Peter

It won't (shouldn't anyway) be delivered unless somebody is there to sign for it.

There is someone there most of the day to receive it.

Failing that I can have it re-directed tomorrow.

nice one. What was the total cost after tax/delivery/etc? I'm interested in one of these babies myself, my t610 is getting on a bit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Not bad. Certainly better than expansys and the likes. I think I'll wait a couple of months though, its still a little expensive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭Peteer

    Hi cableguy!

Best of luck with 'GLS' they were only a day late with my last shipment. Anyway, i've used the phone now for a bit. First impresions, great replacement for the t68i.

G/F thinks it's ugly compared to the T610. It is smaller, slightly, anyway I'm happy. My phone came O2'd but I'm Vodaphone. Makes no odds to me for now.

    All the best,
    Peter

Peteer - did you get the phone from the german company we're talking about ? I'm asking because you say it has the O2 menus etc.. on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭vigos

Peteer, what about manuals and menus, were they in German. Its strange that it came O2'd alright. If its sim free it shouldn't come loaded with any operator software on it.

Yeah, mobilerepair.de The phone came with the O2 insignia and the homepage on the wap is in german too, but thats just a setting that needs changing.

The manuals are in German but it's availavle as a PDF in english from the SE website.

sounds like this guy is buying them on O2 germany and unlocking them, then selling them on?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭netman

i wouldn't care if he's buying them in afghanistan, as long as they work and save me a ton of cash :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭deadl0ck

"The phone came with the O2 insignia"

Do you mean an actual logonon the outside of the phone, or is the menu O2 specific - I mean is the original SE Menu System on the phone or have O2 bastardised it (like vodaphone do with the T610) ????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

afaik the only changes o2 make to the menus are the addition of links to their wap sites, their own gprs settings included by default, and o2 wallpapers etc. You are free to download all the original stuff that would have come on the phone from the SE site. Vodafone on the other hand utterly rape the phone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭netman

hmm.. just a thought here.. but if o2 are selling the phone in germany (and it's 50 euro) would it not stand to reason that it will shop up pretty soon in ireland, for maybe 100-150 euro ?

i love this phone but hell, if it will save me 150-200 euro i wouldn't mind waiting a month or two :)

    Hi Again,
    Stephen wrote:

AKAIK the package was completly sealed, G/F had opened it and charged it before I saw it so I didn't see for myself.
    netman wrote:

Thats exactly the reason I bought it saved me a few quid and also it is still not easly available in Ireland.

The phone is fine, it's the software thats set-up with O2 Germany settings. Two of the menus are fixed, it appears, to the O2 settings.

Yeah, the settings can be erased and replaced with the ones you want e.g Irish O2 or Vodafond settings, but the Wap settings/bookmarks are pointing to O2 Active as are the 02 Bookmarks, all in German. I'm sure it's possible to just erase and or replace the bookmarks with anything you like.

Hope you get yours soon cableguy, any more info on tracking the order?

    All the best,

This is a reply to an email I sent to mobilerepair

    Hello,

    Thank you for your email.

Yes the phone is sim free and normally unbranded. Unfortunately I have no
information about the software version on the phones, because distributors
are changing almost on a daily basis and we don't check the software version
on every phone before we send it off

Let me know if you have further questions

    Best regards

netman: those would be prices on contracts, not sim free/pay as you go. It will probably show up here 6 months down the road for extortionate prices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭deadl0ck

It Would be great if you could let us know what you think of it after a few days use !!
Also - maybe a sample pic or two !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭Peteer

    Hi,

cableguy, Great to hear that you got the phone at last. As per switching from Nokia, I had no such problems. I left them over two years ago when they couldn't get the syncML that they invented to work with Palm and Mac.

Must be a challenge for you all the same. My first SE was the T68i and the g/f has had the T610 for nearly a year now so I was already well SE aware.

For deadl0lc, after a couple of days use I'm happy with the phone. The battery life is not fantastic to the point that I would look at buying a battery that has better life.

That said. I have left the battery in the 'red' for over a day before it died with regular use.

As a camera the panoramic pictures are novel and not bad quality if you think about what you want before you take the snaps.

Anyway I'll give an update in a few weeks after I have used it more. I'm sure cableguy is the same.

    Cheers,
    Peter

I have a SE T68i and I really love it ... Would consider changing and will check out the K700i.

What about software like Float's Mobile agent (coool piece of software) - can this be used to connect to K700i ???

    Hi Couch Potato,

You will notice a fair difference with the battery life of the K700i compared to the T68i which is a great phone too except for the lag in the menu navigation.

I don't know about the software as I use a Mac and any software I've seen was Windows only.

    Regards,
    Peter

What stuff came with the phone? Were there any cables to hook it up to your computer or are all those extra?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭Peteer

    Hi Robert,

The phone came with a CD rom (still unused). It came with a two pin charger. I use my charger for the the T68i.

To hook it up to the computer, powerbook G4, I use bluetooth.

It did also have a stereo headset hands free kit, for listening to MP3's and the built in FM radio.

If you dont have bluetooth or IR on your computer you will need to purchase same or a usb conection cable.

    All the best,
    Peter

A friend of mine told me that the k700i can only store 50 text messages. Is this true?

I would have thought that you could store as many texts as you like in the 48mb memory.

Hi Cableguy, e-mail them to me and I'll trow them onto a web site and supply the link if you wish.
