Just wondering if sauna/steamroom is any good for clearing a headcold? Have nasty case of runny nose, sneezes at present.

novice to the world of the leisure centre etc having only recently joined one. While asking are either any good for dealing with a hangover (for future reference)

any other health benefits too them?

Instead of the risk of exposing other people to your cold (I'd imagine that it'd be quite easy to pick it up in a sauna, no?), why not cook yourself a really spicy meal? Lash on the cayenne pepper, it's sure to break up the headcold for you :)

As I’m sure you’re aware there is no actual cure for a cold, however, there are several things that you can do to ease the symptoms, using certain cough mixtures and the like.

I wouldn’t reckon that using a sauna would make much of a difference to your cold per se, but you could try putting a few drops of Albas oil into the water before putting it onto the hot stones as that would definitely help as a decongestant. Although you could quite easily do this at home with a basin of boiling water and a towel over your head plus you wouldn’t have other sauna users giving you the beady eye for spreading your germs, so to speak.

As the symptoms of a hangover are generally due to the dehydrating nature of alcohol it would be inadvisable to use a sauna when hungover, for obvious reasons.
