I joined the community centre gym last month.. they had a summer deal of €40 per month for June/July/August.. this goes up to €55 per month outside the deal..

Being honest even the deal isnt worth the money and I definitely wont be renewing my membership!!

The machines are very old. They have:
3 x Bikes ( one with broken screen which looks dangerous to touch!!)
    2 x rowers
5 x treadmills ( only two are worth going on)
2 x steppers ( which are very jerky)
1 x Cross trainer (more chance of you meeting the pope then getting on this)

The free weights are better, old but better than the cardiovascular machines.

For €55 I reckon you would find a much better deal else where!!

Apparently the Community Centre in Donabate have a great gym with more realistic prices, if you dont mind the drive!!

I would be interested in hearing if you do manage to find somethin!!

€55 euro per month sounds a lot if the equipment isnt that good!

Dont really mind about the cv machine, do most of that outside.

Am mainly interested in the free weights - might have a look and see what they are like before I even think about joining.

Will give u a shout if I do happen to find somewhere tho.

    Thanks branners69!

branners69.... whereabouts in Balnriggan is the Community Centre?

Can you pay as you go? Would like to try it out before I pay a membership.

    Trotter Inc,

I will give you instructions to get to the gym as if you are coming from Dublin. You will hit the church on the right and the next main right after the church is the turn to Lidl. Opposite this turn is the Credit Union. The Community Centre is around 100m down from the Credit Union on the left hand side!!

If you need anymore details let me know.

As far as I am aware you have to pay the €40(before Sept)/€55(after Sept) before you start. Maybe you can ask them for a trial day or something??

Let me know if you have any more queries!!

    Cheers

I was a member of the combined clubs gym a couple of years ago and to be honest i didnt think it was good at all. I am a fitness freak a thought there wasn't enough equipment there. Besides I dont think A gym is neccessary. I much prefer to walk outside and do my sit ups at home. Its free and it can be more sociable if you do it with a friend.

    Thanks Penelope.

I do my running outside every week but I like going to a gym to do some weight work which I also love. The 'combined gym' that you were talking about - is that the same one as the Community Centre? I am going in there tonight for a look.

Also, on the way homw the other evening I noticed a sign for some fitness centre. I came off the M1, across the fly-over and then just after the halting site on the road to Balbriggan I seen a sign on the left hand side of the road for some fitness centre - do you know if this one is any good at all?

    Thanks!

Yeah the combined club is the same as the community centre

Went to the that gym in the Community Centre last night - ended up paying €40 for a months trial membership.

Gym isnt great at all - not much space to do some free weights - smith machine is fine but they could do with getting some heavier dumb bells.

Probably wont bother re-newing the membership - no way is it worth €50 a month.

Might have a look around Skerries or somewhere like that - anyone know of any decent gyms around there please let me know.

I am also looking for a gym in BALBRIGGAN and area. I would like to go with my husband.

We found a nice gym, its devided into men's and women's. Unfortunately the women's is like a CURVES, so no cardios at all. No free weights or anything like that... :( The men's is just perfect, but they strictly do not allow women to join.

Does anybody know where they might have something in the area with stepper and bikes and free weights for women. Maybe one where my husband and I can go together?

I have heard there is a gym in the COMMUNITY CENTRE in BALBRIGGAN? Has it been renovated? There were some rumours going on that its way too expensive for what they offer....

Hope to get some replies soon!

    Thanks in advance! :)

Cowzerp, I wouldnt bother replying to Penelope as her post was from 2004 and she only has 6 posts to her name. She must be out walking :D

To OP Total Fitness on the Malahide Rd wouldnt be too far! I was a member of the Community Centre gym back in 2004, even now it makes me laugh it was such a kip!!!

Yeah, the community centre gym is terrible and way too expensive for what they have.

I used to live in Balbriggan, but I joined the Boyne Valley Country Club gym in Drogheda, I know its about 20 mins (I think) drive but its worth it, gym is a nice size, they have aerobic and spinning classes and they also have a decent enough weights area. They also have a pool with sauna and steam room.

I'd love to meet the man that told people they could loose their fat arses just by walking funny around the streets of Dublin.

I have heard good things about the place in Lusk. I havn't joined it as i've still got another membership running elsewhere. Think its 40 quid a month

Just came across your posts and thought i'd let you know that the gym in the combined clubs has changed for the better recently, it has upgraded its equipment and dropped its prices massively....works out around €20 per month which is hard to beat. The main attraction though is the instructors, the programmes are better than any gym i've been to and the level of attention they give you is similar to personal training. I know its small in size but i've never been in better shape than I am now thanks to them. Couldn't reccommend it enough...pm me if you want to ask me any questions
