well..what my friend's dad did was cut down on fat and walked for 1 hr per day and did a few gentle crunches..seemed to work for him anyway.

Some weight training will up your metabolism. Eat more protein - it makes you feel fuller so you can eat less calories safely. Cut down on alcohol/sugar/white flour(white bread, white pasta etc.)/peeled potatoes. Low intensity cardiovascular work over prolonged period of time. That walking suggestion is a good idea. I personally enjoy swimming for this purpose.

thanks, am doing light weight training at home as a start and am walking a good bit more, (walking to dart then walk to work about 30mins each way) .

I am moving offices in a couple of weeks. I am thinking of cycling to work (bray to sandyford ind est) I admit Im not fit, really want to do this a few days a week, could i survive a 10 mile cycle that early in the morning and back again in the evening or am i risking my life. I don't cycle at all.

Anyone cycle this far in the mornings.

If there's hills you'll probably die a death, but if it's on flat then you should be okay if you take it easy.

I've often thought I'd like one of those breadboard stomachs you see in the advertisements. I'm very thin but it's hard to shed fat in that area.

I do a bit of Tae Kwon Do and have started eating alot better in the last month which helped. You probably have to do alot of running though.. i ****ing hate running. Might give the stomach crunches a go I suppose.

Effectiveness of stomach crunches will depend on how much fat you have there. If it's just a small bit of stubborn stomach fat then building the abs will help as the muscles will be able to "poke through" the fat so to speak. If you've a lot of fat there then stomach crunches won't help you as you can't spot-reduce fat.

If you don't like running you could try varying your routine maybe. It's always hell for the first 2 weeks anyway till your body and mind get used to it. After that it's all good for a few weeks until the routine starts getting boring I find. At that point I start introducing speedwork, hill routes etc.

What should you eat, since pasta, bread and potatoes cuts out about 70% of my diet.

I usually have boiled eggs with brown toast for breakfast. (If I'm in a hurry, I'll grab some kidney beans and lentils salad).

For lunch, I might have a salad, or a sandwich with brown bread.

For dinner, meat, vegetables, jacket potatoes.

For snacking, cheese, fruit, almonds etc.

My sister started raving about a gluten-free diet. I tried it. I eat no bread, crackers etc - for carbs I eat rice and rice-cakes - try also to avoid spuds.

Since April I've lost 5 KG. My beer-gut is a shadow of its former self - without so much as one crunch. The only exercise I take is walking.

just to put my own experience in the pot.. I was 18 and a half stone this time last year. Made up of many years of boozing and eating take-aways. I'm talkin 30 pints and 3 take-aways at least a week with a special place in my stomach for Korma dishes!!

Since last September I have stuck to a low carbs diet, this by far does not mean no carbs!! I have a 4 carbs rule a day, 1 carb is equal to a slice of bread or a small potato.

So gone are the days of porridge for breakfast, sandwich with crisps for lunch and a dinner of either spuds or pasta!!

I am currently 14 stone and have been for the past 6 months which I am chuffed with!!

If you want anymore details then let me know!!

One thing does anyone know how to get rid of stretch marks??

    Cheers

You can't I'm afraid. They will however fade with time. Products such as vitamin-e cream and Bio-oil can make them fade faster and reduce chances of further stretch marks.

One "diet" I would really recommed is something similar to this one:

    http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/dietarytherapy/a/Detox_Diet_Plan.htm

Initially you will find it very strict, but eventually it should become second nature. You are eliminating a lot of foods you would probably have every day (Sugar, Dairy, Wheat, Gluten, Corn, Yeast, Caffeine, Alcohol), so this diet is not supposed to be something you do over a long period of time. I managed it for 30 days, and lost about a stone and a half.
Apart from the weight loss it really gives you a lot more energy, which I'm such you will welcome. I was going to bed around 12 and waking up around 5 and would not feel in tired in the slightest during the day.

Just an update on this, have been doing light weight training everyday just my arms 30 reps each arm, have been swimming 3 times a week, cut out milk and sugar from my diet. have started to eat gluten free brown bread and I can already see results.. gone from a 38 inch to a 36 and even the 36 is lose.. seems to be working.. think the swimming is really having an effect. And to top it off I love it. so this could well be a new lifestyle for me.. and I've just bought a new mountain bike.

IS that gluten free brown bread expensive. I'd love to be able to do that much swimming. I never get the time to do it.
