    Oh good. I've tended to call it RTE2 for the past 15 years anyway.

    So in 1988 they renamed it Network 2 to appeal to the younger types by renaming it and repositioning the channel as the lifestyle channel for yoof. Now in 2004 they're going to do the reverse to appeal to the younger types, presumably by renaming it and repositioning the channel as the lifestyle channel for yoof . Sounds like a good use of half a million euros (and whatever they spent on it last time).

    I'd be worried about the fact they're changing their content - more sports? More programs aimed at 20-30 somethings? What does that mean? More crappy reality shows probably! Goodbye decent drama!

    Seems like a waste of half a million to me.

    Seems like a waste of half a million to me.

    They should acutally make a TV show for N2/NETWORK2/RTE2/RTENEWORK2.

    (I will call it that from now on, thank you)

    But if RTE decide to sell N2/NETWORK2/RTE2/RTENEWORK2 wont it just confuse the 15 2 45 year old age group when the new owners change the name.

    :confused::confused::confused:

    Thats good news, I always wanted it to be RTE2 just like in UK BBC 1 & BBC 2

    I think that name charging won't improve its falling ratings.

    A waste of money rebranding.

    Where is the value for licence payers?

    Or Where is the public service broadcasting on this station?

    Typical RTE.

    I don't think there's any need, it's of interest in both fora.

    The thread about this in the ICDG Broadcasting forum is here BTW for anyone who's interested.

    We're always giving out about how they copy the BBC and the UK so much. So why is this waste of money good?

    I suppose now would be the time for all the radio stations to change names just like the UK.

    RTE 1 = RTE 1
    2FM = RTE 2
    Lyric FM = RTE 3
    RNaG = RTE 4

    Yeah! IMO highly unimagitive.

    ...

    TG4 = RTE4
    and
    TV3 = RTE 3

    ;)

    Of course, any slightly intelligent person would realise that better programmes and scheduling would do more for the station that a crappy name change.

    This country has a weird habit of running to rebranding. Today FM worked great for whatever the hell it was called before (something Ireland?), TG4 from TnaG, Rock104 to FM104, and the countless Network2 rebrandings (I'm almost sure they had once since the 1997 one too becuase they seemed to make a big hoo ha about the N2 branding for a while). I think we should have a national day of rebranding where everything in the whole country is rebranded. It'd be ever so cool.

    Makes sense, really. Where's Network 1?

    Now we need a TV1 and TV2 and TG haon do agus tri.

    I noticed a few months ago RTE bringing back the "RTE" on all of their channel ID's.

    Network 2 become RTE Network 2 on Sky.
    Radio 1 became RTE Radio 1 on RDS. I think 2FM is now "RTE 2FM" on RDS ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

    Nope, it's RTÉ Network 2

    Ah hold On are you sure its not RTÉ N 2?

    :confused:

    New Zealand have TV1, TV2, TV3 AND TV4

    I liked the orginality of

    RTE1
    N2
    TV3
    TG4

    I am still waiting for TV3 to change to ITV Éire, I am guessing 2006.

    I wounder if they will get the Fada?

    Listed as RTE Network 2 on the Sky EPG

    As for ITV Eh-ra (or even Eeera), I doubt the locals would like the second part.

    Any bets people on when it happens.

    I am sticking with 2006

    The name ‘Radio Ireland’ really had that appeal to their target audience. :rolleyes:

    Well no, it didn’t.

    It sounded something like Morning Ireland. And even if it didn’t to most people, it sounded official-like, it didn’t sound even a tad fresh, or a tad ‘hip’.

    [The TodayFM's image is bright, its brand colours are yellow with blue and a dash of red; while I cant remember Radio Ireland’s brand, the image it gives is boring old Ireland, possible the colour green, a picture of the Ireland, and/or [insert a US tourist’ image of Ireland here].

    (Also, there probably were legal issues being so closely named to ‘Radio and Television Ireland’.)

    ADDED: * end of rant *

    I actually thought it was Radio Ireland but then I figured "no there was no way they'd have called it something so stupid!" I don't get how the hell it even got on air with such a stupid name. I remember one of the guys from DFTG saying about the name change "Today FM, becuase it might not be here tomorrow."

    On RDS, Radio 1 is shown as "RTE 1" (ott, BBC R1 on RDS has changed to simply Radio 1), and "RTE 2fm" for 2fm.

    I never really got why they called it that

    After all Radio Éireann is Radio Ireland in English. And then to Change it to today fm when its competition is 2fm. Don't both names just seam very familar?

    As for what Raido Ireland look like before Today FM.

    Black background with a Colourful (CD colours?) map of Ireland (Ireland) with the words Radio Ireland in white in front of it.

    When I was kid I was always pissed off when they cancaled The Den for tennis and such :(
    so more sport will mean I won't be watching it anymore
    I think the whole thing is a waste of money, maybe I'm just annoyed because I have to pay a license yet I ain't sat down and watched more then 1hr of Net2 or RTE in the last 2 months, yes I watch the RTE News but I watch the on-line stream of it
    :cool:

    that was the bane of my summer

    Tennis Golf etc :mad:

    But now they don't do that, I am sure if I liked Sports I would be mad that they don't show live Tennis, Golf etc.?

    I never understood why they didn't put the Sport on RTE One, wouldn't have been more apporpriate over there?
