Just a little game if anybody is interested. I will post a question which people will try and answer, when somebody answers the question they then get to ask question, which other people will in turn try and answer. Again when somebody answers that question correctly they are in control and get to ask a question. Simple really I think, hopefully peopl will join in!

I will start with the first question, a simple one!

Only two counties have won four all-ireland football titles in a row, Kerry have done it twice but who were the first county to win four all-ireland football titles in a row?

Another simple one, what year did Kerry win their first all-ireland title?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭Mighty_Mouse

101 years ago. 1903 (hundred years lark last year!)

Whats the highest individual score in a Senior Football Final and by who?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭stevemac

i believe that was a trick quetion.

    i'd guess 1891,

    hurling btw

good quetion mighty as well, haven't a clue on that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Wrong you can't ask a question yet!

I said first all-ireland, not first football all-ireland trick question!:p

So it still stands, and for the record the highest individual score in an All-Ireland final has been 2 goals, 6 points by Jimmy Keaveney (Dublin) v Armagh in 1977, and by Michael Sheehy (Kerry) v Dublin in 1979.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Correct StevieMac can ask a question

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭stevemac

I'm pretty sure that kildare have won an all-ireland or 2 so I reckon they've won a Leinster too.

No I am sure that they have won nothing in hurling! More than 14 teams have not won senior provincial hurling championships, unless it is a trick question and includes club championships, then I have no idea what the figure is!

I ve a couple of match programs here from going to games this year i ll check the roll of honour for hurling .. thats if i can find the hurling program ..

Kilkenny , Wexford , Dublin , Offaly , Laois are the only ones listed as winning the Bob O'Keeffe Cup

Yeah they all have all-irelands and have each won the Bob O'Keefe trophy a few times! All of the Munster teams have won Munster, as they all have All-Ireland hurling titles! Antrim and Down and Derry(I think) all have Ulster titles! London have a title if they competed in a provincial championship the year they won the all-ireland!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,666 ✭✭✭Imposter

Ok found a website which lists back to 1925. Scratch Meath from that list. There's also a few that have Junior all-Irelands but I presume he meant senior as in senior and not as in adult.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭stevemac

from the list i have, which was just the all-ireland semis and finals. there are 6 munster(all), 5 leinster (you have them), 2 connaught and 5 ulster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Yeah cavan played in a semi in 1908, but I am not sure if they won ulster, Derry played in 1909, Roscommon in 1913 lost to Tipperary 10-0 Roscommon 0-1, and played in 1974! Also back in the day I did not realise they had a home and an all-ireland final, so glasgow, lanchashire etc took part in the championship!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭stevemac

that pretty much all i have, and 1 more ulster county. Donegal.

    So the list reads

Fermanagh , Tyrone ,Monaghan, Armagh Kildare , Wicklow , Westmeath , Louth , Meath , Carlow , Longford, Leitrim , Mayo and Sligo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Does anybody else have a trivia question or shall I ask another one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭stevemac

when did kilkenny win there first leinster title?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭Mighty_Mouse

1904................ think they won the all-ireland for the first time too that year. (if i remember correctly!! )

Whats the highest individual score in a Senior Football Final and by who?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭stevemac

Jimmy Keaveney (Dublin) 1977 and Mike Sheehy (Kerry) 1979 both scored 2-6 in All Ireland Finals.

Can I throw one in seeing as there's been a bit of a gap?

What player (playing senior level in 2003) had played in 3 separate provinicial championships?

Anyone with a guess on this? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I don't know who it is but i'd imagine it'd have to be someone who has played for UCC or maybe UCD, their original county and their adopted county. Would it be that red haired guy from Leitrim who's now a dub and who's name escapes me atm. (Darcy maybe!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

    Denis Byrne?

Its also in 3 different provinicial championships over his career at senior level. Not club/college/underage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

    football or hurling?

In 2003 he was playing hurling. But has played both in diff prov championships.

N.B. Dont go thinking of dual players cause you'll be gone off in the wrong direction altogether

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,997 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Thats a good question (assuming its real!)

I can think of Declan Darcy (Dub+Lei) , Enda Sheehy (Dub+MO), Denis Byrne (KK+Tipp), Brian Lacy (Tipp+KE), a big ignorant lad who played for Donegal and Mayo who's name escapes me, and Ciaran Barr (Antrim+Dub) who have played in 2 provinces. Cant think of any who've played in 3.

    Teu o'hAilpin has played:

    1. Minor for cork in the Munster championship
    2. Senior football for London in Connact
    3. Senior hurling for London in Ulster

2 above is all I know for a fact - 1 and 3 are guesses, but I betcha London is involved in the answer.
