Ok, we've arranged with the Merrion that we'll hold as special tournament for Boardsters in the Merrion next Monday night (5th July!). Details are firm but I want to confirm a few of the minor things (like food, dealers etc)

The format is this: We all want to play a 50Euro Freeze out. No rebuys, no topups. But none of the card clubs have such a game... well now we have our own private game!

The game will start early, 6:30 probably, maybe 7 and the blinds and payout structures will be pretty much what you are used to.

The entry fee is 50 Euro + 5 registration. There will be some minor rake (for beer money for the organisers!) but we're pretty much going too pay out the vast bulk of the entry money (we have to cover the casino costs but they arent too bad).

So, while the BSOP is motoring exceptionally well, this is something different.

So, 50 notes, freezeout, the game most people here requested. Places are limited to please give me an indication of your intention to play or not.

Fnck 10 person home games, its time to settle this once and for all... :)

    DeV.

ps: I'm putting 10 euro on La Fortezza to go out before me, anyone take me up on that? knob jockey!

    Me me me.

Guys. This was the game that everyone wanted. We really needs to make it work. Bring your friends and their friends. We want to make this a big tournie. I think this is just about the first time a casino has made an effort to cater for low rollers like ourselves. Let's make it a success.

I would take the bet but if you are on different tables it won't be fair. He will have play a dozen hands and you will still be deciding whether or not to call the BB from the SB.

What percentage rake do you(?) intend to take off the prize money Tom?
Also, 18:30 is a bit early for me, what will be the cut-off for new entries?

Count me in provisionally for this.
DeV, I'm surprised a high roller like yourself would stoop to play with the plebs. I just wish everyone had heard the horrible things you were saying about them. Some people just can't handle the dizzy heights of poker stardom...

Worry not. If we get enough interest it will be a monthly affair.

What sort o prize structure ar you looking at?

Samson, I'll know for sure what time we'll start on Wednesday, I'll be looking to start at 7pm if possible as 6:30 is a little early but if we have to start then, then we'll put your chips out and you shouldnt lose too many.

I think 3000 chips with 25/50 antes? 4000 maybe? We cant be there all night but I dont want to put people under pressure immediately.

I havent sorted the costs with the Merrion just yet but I'll be taking literally beer money from the pot for myself and those helping organise things. This isnt about making money for us, its about the game and building it here for people like us. lets face it, 30 people at 50 a head after costs and prizes isnt going to leave jack-sh*t anyway!!

I'd like the entire final table to get something but 9,8 and 7 wont get much more then their money back...

    DeV.

I would like everyone at the final table to get something too. In reality I think if 9th gets their money back we will be doing well.

I am trying to get a few guys a work interested as well. Hopefully we can get 20 or 30 for the first night.

I should be free to go, even if it means that after the first ten minutes I'll just have contributed 50 euro to a pot I can't win andthere's a dealer on hand for the rest of the night.

Is this going to be organised by Boards? Or has the Merrion just been convinced to change their tournament schedule to include a €50 freezeout at Dev et al's suggestion?
Will the Merrion be taking a rake?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,788 ✭✭✭MrPudding

It is organised by us. The merrion will take the fiver for sure. Fine details need to be sorted out. We are looking for as many people as possible. The more the merrier.

I second that, methinks that DeV et al are running scared of our brilliant if unpredictable play. Otherwise why would they organise it for a night when neither of us is in the country!! :ninja:

Excellent. I'm in, are non boardies who are just in the casino allowed play or is it strictly a boards tourney? Also, is it a one off or will this become a regular thing?

We kinda told them we could get 20 or so but possible a lot more. If there are more they will probably accomodate us.

The more expressions of interest we get the better the position we will be in.

So, get as many people as you can there.

yeah I said there were limited places but that was just to add to the exclusivity :)
We can easily acomodate 30-50 I'd say.

This will be a regular thing but we might move it to saturday, depending on the wishes of the majority.

This isnt a "Boards" event so much as a bunch of us getting together to sort this out for our own amusement. I would have no objection to non-boards people playing but I'm not going to go out of my way to publicise it to them. It is, however, how a forum's community grows... look at the archery board or scuba board... they run activities all the time.

Well its Monday for sure this time but after that we'll take a consensus...

Nice one Tom (and anyone else who organised it) :)

Count me in anyway! I may be able to get a few friends together for it too. Hopefully they will take note of the interest in it and host it themselves on a regular basis. And then the Fitz will want to compete and there will be a spawn of games for the thinner pockets out there.

Will you be taking money from each person or just from the prize pool? It would be more appealing if it was from the prize pool.

    Thanks again!

We were going to have a rebuy but decided to make it a freezeout so you would play cormie;)

Got any more details regarding rake etc DeV?

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

No, I have to talk to the Merrion tomorrow to see what our costs are in that department. From the organisers' point of view I think the people who organise it should get something out of it but we arent exactly talking wodges of dosh...! If we get 30 people thats 1650 (30x55), from that I would expect to paying out 400 as top prize and down to 9 places if we can. Thats pretty good odds when consider that its nearly 3:1 that you'll get at least your money back!
It really depends on how much the Merrion take... I'm probably thinking of sharing 100 notes out between the 5 organisers.

We are in control of all of these details, not the Merrion, we just have to pay them, they dont much care where we get the momey from!

    DeV.
