Feel free to hit/kick me if there's already a thread dedicated to the best band in the world, but I haven't seen one around, so here it is!
For the poor souls who haven't encountered the band HIM, they're a Finnish band consisting of Ville Valo (vocals), Migé Amour (bass guitar), Lily Lazer, also known as Linde (lead guitar), Gas Lipstick (drums) and Emerson Burton (keyboards).

Yes, HIM are really good! My favourite song is "join me", although it's been around for a good while now. Guano Apes are better though imo.

I am a very very big fan of In Flames but since the Opeth idea had been put forth I felt it not right to deny the decision of an Opeth thread,although an In Flames thread would be very nice also.

You see, that was a trick question. William Shatner, David Hasselhoff and the Kelly Family are all big in Germany. You've just put HIM in the same league ... of course, maybe that was your intention.

Gah, what's with all the anti-HIM backlash in the last few months? Have you even HEARD their earlier albums or looked at their lyrics? Yeah, unfortunately there are a new gang of 'Lyk OmG Bam MaRgErA LiKeS THeM so deY MUst ROCKKKkkkK' fans, but the rest of us have been into them for years when they were underground and like them for their lyrics, vocals and damn good music. And the fact that Ville's the hottest thing since Vindaloo doesn't hurt. Did I just undermine my whole argument by exposing how shallow I really am with that last sentence? I do believe I did. Bah humbug.

I actually own one of their album's and to be quite honest I got very bored of it VERY fast.
Right now I just wouldn't rate them.

Finland has produced so many bands that are far better, as Pugsley already mentioned, Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Sinergy, Sonata Arctica, and loads more. Lets not forget Finntroll either!

Nein.....twas in my mates house and shes from Sweden and she is really into Scandinavian metal so we got out her collection and just picked out whatever we could from Finland tbh

From the HIM songs that ive heard (being 6 or 7), all i can say is "whats all the damn fuss about?". I tried to get into them cos apart from bam pushing them, Metal Hammer (which is gone crap these days) had them on the front cover how many times? And if they werent on the front cover, they had massive sections for them every 2nd issue. So i automatically thought they must be something special.

But they are soooo weak. There is nothing about them that makes them stand out from the crowd. Theyre good musicians but not great, villes voice is fairly dodgy and the songs are repetitive. I just dont know how they got so big.

I bought an album. listened to it. Blew it up. They are repeditive and boring to be quite brutally honest.

HIM are in so many issues on Metal Hammer its not funny!

lets be completely honest, if you were in a band, would you really want to be big in germany, given their taste in music there?

Yeah, in some tragic cases, people don't grow out of bad taste. :rolleyes: Personally, I'm going to bet the place was packed to the roof with mini-rockers, and the over-eighteens thing means nothing, as there are few venues that an under-eighteen can't get into.

Well, personally I think HIM suck. They're very moany, they just complain about tragic love. There is more to life than love. Although, I do like one of their songs, 'Wicked Game', but then again it's not orignally theirs. My boyfriend absoloutly loves HIM, so I have to put up with them. But then I stole his new HIM hoodie because it's big and warm so bwhaha.
