The most annoying thing on T.V

It is the ads for the ringtones. Non-friggin-stop. And the never show just one it's always ad for ringtones, ad for something else, same ad for ringtones, ad for something else, etc. Seriously, I counted seven times a ringtone ad came on during a break. What is the deal?

What is your most annoying thing on tv be it presenter, show, ad, channel, etc.

yep. 1 ad per break would be bearable... when they're nearly breaching double figures every ad break on mtv, they begin to grate.

    Hmm... Where to start?

I'll skip over the things I've already complained about in another thread and think of a few more specific things.

    * The Motorola cellphone sponsorship of some movies/programs. At the start and end of every commercial break you get that horrible "Hello Moto" nonsense with a cacophony of noise. Ugh! :( As I usually tape everything and watch it later I try to skip over it all, but sometimes you're just not quick enough on the controls!

    * The BBC's constant plugging of certain shows. (Does RTE do this as well?) Eastenders is a good recent example, with their "Everybody's talking about it" clips. Everybody is not talking about it -- Large numbers of us never watch it and I know quite a few people who say they used to watch it but gave up because it became such depressing drivel.

    * Got to agree with those grumbling about the " reality" shows. Those incessant plugs for "Big Brother" are enough to put you off. I saw about 15 minutes of it some months ago, only by accident I hasten to add. What a load of complete and utter garbage. The TV execs who commissioned and continue to support this trash must have succotash for brains.

    * All of the "Trading up", "I Want That House" and similar real-estate shows which clearly have a certain agenda to show a range of houses despite the house-hunter's specifications. Somebody might say that being in a rural area is essential, but they will still include a house stuck in the middle of a development in a city. Somebody else might tell them their absolute maximum budget is, say, £120.000 but they'll show them one with a comment like, "This is a little over your budget at £180.000." I dont call 50% extra a "little" over-budget!

    * Add to that the foreign real-estate shows in which they emphasize all the great points and don't point out potential snags. It's all very well gushing about some £50.000 villa in Spain, but too often they make no mention of the high percentage that needs to be added to that for legal fees, government taxes etc., Or maybe to someone who is thinking about becoming self-employed in Spain they make no mention of the fact that the Spanish govt. wants you to pay about £50 per week in social security contributions before you even start to make a profit. (Yes, I did make inquiries about that once!) It would also be nice if just for once they would point out all the immigration red tape as well.

Is that enough to be going on with? ;)

the new wella shockwaves ad annoys me more than anything on television, its so uber gay, i dont see why shock waves are tryhin to sell their products using trend whore faggots with trendy but 80's style gayness. The man in that ad is such a fheg with his fookin makeup and anti gravity hair ****e. ive wanted to rant about this ad for a while now, thank god ive got it off my chest.

oh insurance ads, "when there's blame theres a claim" etc.

Day time television. All those cookery programmes, especially 'Ready steady cook' and its clones. They're on every channel at the same time, so if you flick over there's another one on the next channel. And they're always doing stuff that no one in their right minds would cook. Or using ingredients you can't find in normal shops that could potentially hospitalise you.

And then the 'Richard & Judy' format, aarrgghh! Trisha, Ricky lake, half them are publicity seeking liars. I mean why would anyone air their dirty laundry to the nation like that. Or else all the stuff for pre-schoolers nowadays, anyone over five can't have a laugh at them like you could at 'sesame street' or the 'Clangers'. I just end up putting on a news channel or Discovery (while being an excellent channel has too many repeats).

    The simpsons ( die )

i must disagree, i have to say that simpsons is one of the few redeeming features of tv these days. it's like a good wine, it gets better with age.

that, south park and sopranos are the only things that make tv worth watching.

ringtone ad - 57113 - with eammon in the background

ringtone ad - 57777 - five, double seven, double seven..... bleep

RTE Formula1 coverage - i prefer ITV. think RTE make a hames (sp?) of it.

MTV in general - some of the shows I like but if they are going to dedicate the channel to just shows and not music at least dont show the same thing 3 times a day, for 7 days. (the movie awards are wrecking my head at the moment)

The loan company ad - so many differant ones, the hurdle race, the gameshow.... arghhhhhhh!!

    TV3 - *sighs*

Aaaaaargh, the fooking bleep at the end of that ad, it annoys the crap out of me. That and their little five, double seven, double seven jingle. Grrrr

I blame the parents, giving their 10 year olds mobile phones and money so they can spend €2 to have Britney or Justin tagged on their display, or better yet a "romantic poem", WTF!

<sigh>, I feel better now that my little rant is done.
Right now though, the most annoying thing has to be the Big Brother channel, aka E4. Switch on TV in the morning before work, flick around, gets to E4, ah how interesting, people asleep in bed! How tick is that?

I just got cable about 2 months ago and I want to go back to my 4 Irish Channels. Fair enought - there's feck all on - but at least you dont get mad when there's feck all on.

My major gripes at the moment:

Newlyweds - Jessica Simpson is playing at oxegen. I'm seriously going to egg the b!tch and see if she puts it on her stupid fcuking program. WHORE

Ringtone/Logo adds - especially "My band" and "Eamonn". 10 times in a row. Really drives me mad. I cant stand it.

MTV - cribs, punk'd, the fabulous life of "put Annoying Celeb's name here"

Bad reality tv - I like the odd program sometimes (Wife swap was funny once or twice), but "how clean is your house"? C'mon, your running outta ideas.

Any of those "do up your house" type programs (my woman loves them - whitener.)

WORST OF ALL - those bloddy adds for snack bars "Good friends deserve a snack in the mouth". I mean JESUS. Throw in a few actors from "Camera Cafe", The big bow wow (ouch - I hated that) and whadaya got? A slap onthe arse, a ripped shirt and some fcuking ponse jumping out of a cupborad. WHAT???

    SH!TE SH!TE SH!TE.

THOSE SNACK BAR ADDS SUCK BIG FAT SWEATY BALLS

What's funny about that is MTV actually have a new ad with a guy singing and playing his guitar badly (intentionally) and he's singing about all the new shows on MTV (something like 'new Dirty Sanchez, new Viiva La Bam..... etc) and then he stops and the voiceover says...

"MTV in July.... no music, just great shows" or something like that!

    :)

Those ringtone ads are something else... i dont need to hear "i dont want you back" obviously made by some nerdo on his casio keyboard hooked up to his mac seven times per ad break. Plus the phone wallpaper ads... the people who send in for them must have more money than sense, have ya seen the costs of them

    Anyway...

    >> The fact that MTV shows barely any music on it anymore
    >> The fact that they seem to buy four episodes of everything and play them over and over and over and over and over....
    >> The fact that they seem to keep touring their own presenters cr@ppy bedsits and claim its "all new"
    >> Their tv show "marathons". It's not like they wont be showing them all that day otherwise or anything
    >> The fact that TMF basically shows the exact same things as MTV (but they show spongebob at nights so that makes up for it)
    >> Most reality tv
    >> Ross
    >> The Aero ads at the beginning and end of each ad break on RTE and the Stella ones on channel 4.
    >> The fact that theres how many hundreds of episodes of the simpsons but you still end up seeing the same ones over and over
    >> Cheers being on so damn early on channel 4
    >> That thing with the olsen twins (any of the ten million tv shows they've done)

    I could go on...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭LoneGunM@n

Everything stated above [except the simpsons of course] ... but most of all the fact that I get very little to sit & watch tv in the evening & when I do sit down, there's sh@g all on!

plus the fact that all the good movies are on really late & if I sat up to watch them I'd be zombified in work the next day!!

A bit off topic here, but does anyone else have this problem ... a good movie is on TV late at night & doesn't finish till 3ish [so about 3 hours of lost sleep], but you're so tired that you end up feeling like you've hit by a bus for about a week before you get back to normal?

Pretty much anything Sky has on in the evening time. "Boobs Uncovered" or something to that effect. Although that sounds like a pretty good show, I take it all back.

I have a related gripe. It's to do with the sports results. To be fair, RTE News do it as well as TV3. It's the standard silly scripting that seems to go hand in hand with sports news. I'm mean phrases like:

    "That's your sport for now"
    Its not MY sport stupid.

"Let's take a check on those results"
    "Here's confirmation of tonights fixtures"

And other silly phraseology such as the "Sports Desk"

Funny, everytime I hear the above two I can mentally envisage someone in the studio with a clipboard and a pencil, saying "Check!" after each fixture/result.

On the same topic, I hate Sky Sports News. A 24 hour news channel does not work for sport and is unnecessary. Most of the time the bimbos just plug the live games.

    On the same topic,;) ;)

Ah the one who needs subtitles. I never knew that the Dublin accent was mutating at such a rate. :) Even the plonkers in the UK royal family do not talk with such strangulated vowels.

Maybe it is something to do with the European weather being shown by those gob****es in RTE when all that people want to know is if it will be raining or sunny tomorrow.

    The most annoying thing?

I'll answer that with Euro 2004!!!!

Sorry not alone is it a load of tripe (it is....don't deny it)but everywhere you turn half the bloody stations are showing the exact same guy kicking the exact same inflated round thing!

All the tv Schedules are mucked up because of it.
I mean they took Top Gear off the air for three weeks just 2 fit it in...TOP GEAR !

pure and utter crap for anyone not interested in watching football.

and I know people are going to use the "but it wouldn't be on so much if people weren't interested" (screw face up while saying where appropriate) defence but lets face it more things on the earth than football!

oh yeah and i am a bloke!
