Gmail invites, anyone?

OK, I've gotten a load of gmail invites over the last while, a few I've passed on to boards members who asked, and the rest to mates. I still, however have 8, and while some people I asked havent gotten back to me with a definite no, Im sure they'd let me know by now if they wanted one... so I've come over all charitable...

so, if anyone here wants one, PM me with your email addy (and if you want your full name, i dont need it, but its just the three things i have to fill in on the request. If you dont send your name I'll just put your nick in both).

Once I've used all 8, I'll reply here and tell ya all to stop. If you PM me and dont hear from me before I say stop here, you lost!

Sorry to anyone who PM'd me and didnt get a reply, if I get more I'll be onto you all.

Cr3m0, you probably cant invite straight away, it seems to be after a certain amount of time, i dont think it matters how much you use it though.... I'd say you'll get them quicker than before, i think google are stepping up their users to counter the new look yahoo, i didnt get any invites for ages, and then got about 20 in the space of a week.

If I get more to spare, I'll bring this auld thread back from the dead.

I have my account about 3/4 days now - if I get invites I'll be sharing em out too

But it'll be like a virus - if I invite one person, they in turn must invite another boards person ... etc
I think that's how it's working atm anyway. And I haven't seen even _one_ ad for gmail anywhere on the net, yet it's unbelievably popular due to the fact that you can't just sign up willy nilly! Very good idea on their part I think.

Google has one of the best marketing teams around. Who would have thought there'd be such interest in a free mail provider ?

A mail provider that scans the content of your mail and creates a profile of your habits and interests from keywords in those mails and sends you ads tailored to you. Don't forget that you can never delete an email with this account and they still keep your account and all it's mail in their archive even if you close their account.

If you want a GMail account consider signing up for a free blogger.com account as blogger users were some of the first people to be offered GMail.

surely you have to be able to delete mails. i mean it may take a while but you will eventually reach your GB limit.

marcus, it doesnt scan your emails any more than it scans your search fields, the ads respond to words you put in there and then, but they arent logged. I dont have any problem with gmail and the way it works, because I have no problem with using google, or boards.ie for that matter (look up at the google ads, thats all thats on gmail, and no tagline ads or huge annoying banners).

As for storing stuff after you delete it, im not sure what the deal is with that, but given that in the sign up page you are only asked for your name and what addy you'd like, I dont expect them to be watching me at the moment.

as I expected, google are eager to get these out, got 12 more this morning (across 2 accounts). Anyone who PM'd me (including people I replied to to tell I was out) should have one in their inbox, or else I've been in touch with you about them). This means I have 6 more up for grabs.... you know the rules, PM me with your email address (have to have this), and name if you want (dont have to, just need something to put in the fields).

I will not send one on to anyone who posts here, and I will reply in this thread when I'm out of them, again.

yes, they use the same ad system used for the ads on this page, on googles searchs, and on thousands of pages on the web, its nothing new. if you have a problem with it, you better stay away from the likes of boards.ie

anyway, this thread is not a debate about gmail, thats been had, this is for anyone who has weighed the options, and wants to try it out. I have invites for anyone interested.

Yeah, like I said in both IE and Mozilla. Just checked it on my laptop too, using IE and the same result. I can however access my account by clicking "forgot your password" and it has my details, and following the link in the invitation email brings up a "this link has been used to set up myemailaddy@gmail.com and can't be used again". So my account exists, I just can't get into it. Strange...

Yeah I got it but went back to the main page and signed in. Your account is created despite the error.

I'm having the same problem.....weird.
