    Hi Donny

Excellent!! What Camera are you using?

    Ka:-)

Nikon Coolpix 4300 in Fantasea Pro housing. Wide angle lens and Sea & Sea YS-90 Auto strobe.

Are you bringing it this weekend for the Laurentic? Jan (Nordic) got some recently there.

    Ka:-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 456 ✭✭NordicDiver

Pictures are coming from the Laurentic (gun&boilers). I feel i am in the stoneage taking slides in 2004.. get them scanned when i find a place in Galway that does it

But things will change when my DSLRhousing arrives :D

Hope to take more pictures of the Laurentic (the bow) in july, takes some time to set up a tripod ontop of wreck debris, 30 minutes on the wreck feels very short then.

    :)

Yep of course I'm bringing it :)
I'll be the one hugging the camera all day in case anyone tries to drop a twinset on it

    1 of R.M.S Laurentic`s gun.

    Boilers.

As you can see from the pictures, the shotline is tied to the gun...please don`t tie shotlines to nice guns like this one :(

Sweet... for some reson i thought the vis we had on the Laurentic the last time we dived it was a little dissapointing.... but those photo's come out a treat.

    Thanks budyy :D

PS. The gallery is a sweet idea...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭donny

Looks like the vis was much better for your dive there. Your pics came out really well. I definitely need more practice.

I'd like to know what camera, digital/film was used for the photos posted. It can be helpful when taking my own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 456 ✭✭NordicDiver

Nikonos V with 15mm lens and 2 sec daylight exposure. Fujicrome400 slide film scanned by the local 1 hour photoshop to 18MB (4-5 MB pix) i wish i could scan them to 50MB but the shop did not have the right equipment.

The 15mm lens makes the diffference, i was like a meter or so away from the gun so the viz looks a lot better then it was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭donny

How did you keep the camera steady for 2 sec exposure? You bring a tripod with you?

I was using Nikon 4300 (digital) in Fantasea Pro Housing with Sea and Sea 20mm (I think) WAL and Sea and Sea YS-90 strobe for any pics with strobe in them.

Well I can verify that the periscope is intact on the U-260. Seems everyone has heard rumours that it had been taken. Took this on Saturday...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 456 ✭✭NordicDiver

Ah thx Donny, i have been annoyed about that for a loong time now, and its great that the rumors are not true. Myselfe, Peace and MickL are off to dive the U260 this weekend and it would be to bad if some "treasure hunter" had stolen the skyscope ;)

Any more pictures from Baltimore ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭donny

These 2 are unedited... when I get home I'll see if I can photoshop a few more of them to get them a bit clearer..

Dived the Kowloon bridge on Sunday but vis wasn't as good at all so pics didn't come out so well. Quite pleased with these 2 from the U-260 though. Think I'm slowly improving a bit. Must learn how to photoshop properly to remove backscatter etc.

Here's a pic of a crayfish from my trip to Inis Meain this weekend...

Some of the best diving I've done in Ireland is around the Aran Islands

Very nice pic Donny, almost makes Irish diving look tropical. The viz seems very good. How deep was the shot taken, there seems to be loads of light

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭donny

Pretty sure it was at 25 metres. I used a strobe to bring the colour back to this shot but its the original and not photoshopped at all. Here is a pic taken with ambient light to show what the vis etc is like. Some great reefs and overhangs etc. The diver at the top of the picture is actually looking at this crayfish and pointed it out to me when I caught up. The bottom here is around 28 metres. I'm quite sad to say that my camera actually flooded on this very dive and is completely ruined. I noticed soon after I took these shots. Hopefully I'll be replacing it in the near future.... As you can probably see... the memory card survived ;)

Here is a photo from Wexford, off Kilmore Quay. The site of the Lennox. Please don't laugh it is my first attempt with the camera.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,468 ✭✭✭Evil Phil

Thats a pretty good picture paddy. Nice depth - no back scatter. What camera did you use?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 paddywhack

    SERIOUS?????

The camera is a Sealife DC310. No external strobe or anything. The depth of the dive was only 8M. The rest of the photos were useless because of a plankton bloom further on.

Thanks for the kind words. I will try for more photos soon. Sunday 10th I'm hoping to go to Scuba Dive West and get a shot or two there. Will be deeper dives so I can see how the lightening etc stands up.

    I like the pipefish!!
Where abouts is massmount, and what sort of dive is it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 125 ✭✭Miss Polaris

Massmount, is a tiny village in Donegal. There is a dive site just walk in off the main road past the church. Its a great shore dive all year round - its around the 10m mark most of the reef and life is. It goes right down to 30m and is as black as night. It is part of Mulroy Bay - so it has a hint of fresh water in it. Great spot for night dives and training etc..

    Hi all

In case anyone's interested you can see some of the pics of my recent dive trip in Safaga in the Red Sea at this address: http://public.fotki.com/Shivvv/diving_-_safaga_-/

They were taken at several reefs (Abou El Kefin, Umm Hal Hal, Gamul Kebir) and the wreck shots are from the Salem Express.

I have some better ones which I'll upload when I can find the CD :)

This is just in reply to Ginger, how big was the white-tip reef shark? Because I was scuba diving in the Maldives with black-tip reef sharks (sorry broke the digital camers:() and they were really small! Note to anyone that goes scuba-diving in the Maldives, don't be expecting amazing coral as most of it is detroyed:( However the fish are amazing and there is loads of turtles and sting-rays.
