Points Predictions

I know it's a little futile and probably going against the advice of all those great psychological experts all over the papers and on the radio, but I thought it'd be interesting to have a thread where you predict what points you'll get in August judging by how the exams have went so far. Should be interesting(/sadistic/funny) to look back when you've actually got the results.

Anyway I'd say I'll be somewhere around the 450 mark judging by how English, Maths and LCVP have gone so far.

(There's no point being ultra-conservative/optimistic, just what you actually think you'll get)

[Edit] Had to slightly modify my points prediction after a bit of a maths P2 disaster]

Bout 400. Need 405. Please god let me honour French and let business be resonable....

    English....B2................80
    Irish.......B1..................85
    Math[pass] B2................40
    Frech D1 [but I want a C]....55
    Art B2.....................80
    Buisness B1.........85

425....Hey, that's not too bad. Even with the D1!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭Time Magazine

    English: A2 (90)
    Irish: C1 (70)
    Maths: C2 (65)
    History: A2 (90)
    Economics: A1 (100)
    German: B2 (80)
    Physics: C2 (65)
    Total: 495

But I doubt I'll do quite that well. I could drop (easily) in Irish, Maths, History and Economics. None of them are certain. I could end up with about 450 handy enough :/. BESS was 475 last year :/.

    400 would do for me.

    about 350~

All I need is 300 so IF I get my A1 in maths tomory all I need to do is pass everythin else and I get my points :D

DC121. How come no-one is going to this course this year! There was complete threads on it in previous years!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭oeNeo

    I honestly don't know, somewhere 350-420 I guess.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

Hoping for 500, will probably be ~450

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭DS

Course is 375, GY312, but I'm hoping for 560, I get €1300 if I make it. I think I will. Depends on how much work I do in the 5 day break I have after this Wednesday, also depends on how lucky I am with french/business/economics papers.

It's crazy how low the points are for science subjects in NUIG. I've got undenominated science down as my fall-subject - just incase it all goes terribly, terribly wrong. Only something like 320 points. Or maybe it's 380. Relatively low anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭DS

Yeah it's great really. Takes all the pressure off compared to someone who's been dying to do medicine all their life. Pretty arsed up system really. It shouldn't be so dependant on supply and demand. Works in my favour though.

Yeah, works in your favour, but what about all the people who just stick it down because they're doing a science subject and think they might scrape 320 points? I know 3 people who've done that, all failed their 1st year exams and had to drop out. Bit stupid having the points so low for what's normally a demanding (and specialised) course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 654 ✭✭✭DS

Yeah that's the problem, you get all the chancers in what are generally the most challenging courses.

Hoping for 400, and by the way things are going I might just get it. I think tomorrow will make or break my Leaving Cert. Here's hoping Maths Paper 2 isn't too difficult (PLLLLEEEAAAASSSEEE GGGGGOOOOOOODDDDD!!!)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35 Corona

Hoping for around 450 but that's subject to be a lot lower cos I think I've narrowed down geography and history too much! Need 390 for my course so hopefully I'll get that eitherway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 593 ✭✭✭Cathy

Discharger Snake, I'm hoping to do Physics and Astronomy in Galway too. :) It's a pretty small course - I think there are only 20 places!

Pretty much the same with the points situation too - I'd love to get 560 for the €1300, but I haven't really been studying enough  So hopefully I'll get around 520 or something. I'm going to regret saying that in August when I get 10 points.

{edit - well, if I work it out logically:

    English - 90
    Irish - 60
    Maths - 85
    French - 100
    Physics - 85
    Chemistry - 90
    Biology - 100
    LCVP - 70

    then I'd get 550. But that's being optimistic.}

I'm not going to predict anything, but I'm hoping for 370.

That'd guarantee me my course (Construction Management, GMIT) and I get 500 bucks.

    lowest: 240
    highest:350

Mostly dependent on how well I actually did in english and do in business.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

    Maths - damn better be an A1 - 100
    Physics - same - 100
    Chemo - same - 100
Bio -ugh judging by the new home ec we might be in trouble - 85
English - messed up MB, everything else good - 80
Applied maths - oh god oh god, - ~70

    535, yeah right

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,056 ✭✭✭claire h

Now that maths is over.... I'm thinking I'll get about 420-480. My first choice on the CAO was 545 last year (English/Psychology TCD) but I'll be happy if I get the 375 for Arts UCD. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 124 ✭✭penguincakes

    Maths: A2 - A1 (90 - 100)
    English: A2 - A1 (better be) (90 - 100)
    Irish: C3 - C1 (---)
    Physics: B1 - A2 (85 - 90)
    Chemistry: B1 (85)
    French: A2 - A1 (90 - 100)
    Spanish: B1 ? (85)
    Applied Maths: A2 - A1 (90 - 100)

So mmmm lowest 530, highest 575.

    Pssh yeah right.

    English -- A1
    Maths -- A1
    Irish -- A1
    Biology -- A1
    French -- A1
    German -- A1
    Russian -- A1
    Latin -- A1
    Spanish -- A1
    Physics -- A1
    Chemistry -- A1
    Geography -- A1
History -- A2 (Damn that subject!)

Of course they're all higher level. What do you take me for?

    Or, if I'm being serious, around 460 -- 480.

A genius who studies all of the science subjects (phy, bio, che), knows 7 languages(eng, ir, fr, ger, rus, latin, spanish), studies 2 social science subjects(geo and his). A rare person, who has huge intellectual ability, and only occours once in around 300 years(?). Someone like: Bach, Plato, Socrates, Archimedes, Einstein, Newton, Turing, Joyce, Faraday, da Vinci, Neumann, Ritchie, Kernighan, Thomson, Joy, Mozart, Picaso, Gauss, Nash, Boole, Asimitov, Dick, Huxley, Clarke, Shakespeare...[not in any order]

Or someone who pretends to be a genius online bbs, and just wants to mess and fool around.

I would take you for the second one, i might be wrong. You havent showed anything that might put you in the first catogory.

I dont want to start a flame. And waste my time on idiots and trolls.

I think the IQ of yours, 170, should be -170.

Got any idea who were/are these people?

We're doing the leaving...emotions are running high. Things are blown out of proportion. I find myself snapping at my family mainly for tiny little things. Oh the stress.

    And there ends my psychoanalysis.

Today I was convinced my cat was laughing at me. She just had such a smug look on her face, and kept looking meaningfully at my notes and then back at me checking my emails. :dunno:

See, now you've reached stage 2 of human emotions experienced during the leaving cert. You're now onto the second level - hallucination/paranoia.
She probably did have a smug look though. All cats do. "I have a tail and you don't" kinda look.

Your cat is always laughing at you. You feed them, let them out when they ask, clean up their ****, get nothing in return, and still continue to do all those things.

If I was a cat I'd be laughing at my owners too ;)

No stress here, just acute fatigue. I get awful sleep problems when I have a few weeks off school and ****. Cant get to sleep until the very early hours of the morning, usually just before Ryan Tubridy starts :/. That's been happening a bit lately, but nowhere near the hours I'll be experiencing during the Summer.

My day entails: (all of last week and up until Monday I've had 2 exams. Today I was in until 1, and for the remainder of the week I'm in 2-5).

Wake about 8.30, quick munch - weight about 10 grammes, in school by 9.15.

Exam from 9.30 -> 12.00 or so (I've been in until the end of all the exams, and plan to in the remainder).
Lunch consisting of a roll until ~1.
    Back in school for 1.30.
    Exam until 4 or 5.
Quick munch and a sit down in the sun.
Back in supervised study at 6. Stay there (with a 2 breaks totalling 40mins) until 10pm.
Walk home, have a long chat, home by 11.
    Random food inserted.
Arse about on PC, post here until ~12 or half past.
    Munch.
Bed consisting of about 3 hours TV, music. Sleep by 4.

And the cycle has and will continue, though I have a few half days this week, and supervised study ends tomorrow.

Pints tomorrow night, followed by early morning study for Tech Dr..
Only Biology, Tech Dr. P1 and P2 remaining this week.
Then pints on Friday or Saturday, and study for Construction on Wednesday.

Then, finally,.... I'm free. Major, Absolut pissup.

Maybe so, or perhaps she is a reincarnation of the person you are studying in your notes (ie: Bismarck) and is looking so smug because you're struggling to remember everything about him and she knows it all.

How did a threat about points predictions descend into this ...
