Without a shadow of a doubt, mine is 'Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind'

Don't think anything will beat it this year! The only one that might is 'Garden State'.

    Kill Bill Vol 2

or Spun - just watched it last night. Class!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Didn't like Spun at all!

Was looking forward to seeing it!

I like films that shock you (like 'Requiem For A Dream') but Spun was made with no other intention than to shock you!

I was just bored an hour into it and was waiting for it to finish!

Big fish, kill bill vol 2 and the passion of the christ. The summer movies so far have been pretty dissapointing.

dont you people see how bad that movie was? it was just confusing and messed up for the sake of it. it sucked!
im gonna go with kill bill.

I wasn't gone on Eternal Sunshine or Kill Bill.

I thought the three big blockbusters so far, Van Helsing, Day After Tomorrow and Troy all kicked ass. Fairly mindless but very enjoyable. Roll on Spiderman and King Arthur.

You're saying Van Helsing is better than Eternal Sunshine? *points at forum door* Git! Go on shoo! Leave :D

The reason we don't see it is because it wasn't. Dig? You can dislike it but you can't call it confused without showing up some inability to understand what was happening

As my post has disappeared I'll say it again.....I forgot about Oldboy. Don't know when it's coming out here it might even make it into next years best of polls.

I'm going to go for Eternal Sunshine as well.

I quite liked Butterfly Effect too but i'm not sure it would stand to repeat viewings.

Shaun of the Dead was good.

But I have to go for LOTR:ROTK, I went to see it too many times and can't wait for the four disc set.

21 grams was the best film I've seen this year, damn near flawless film making.

Closely folowed by Eternal sunshine... which IMHO wasnt at all confusing.

and coming in third would be the fantastic Carindaru

Eternal Sunshine for me too. Have to say I quiet enjoyed Dawn of the dead as well.

I also enjoyed Eternal Sunshine most.

I haven't seen many films this year so,

"Internal Affairs" and "The Fog of War".

No one would go to see Eternal Sunshine with me(uncultured swines). I enjoyed Big Fish and Shaun of the Dead and I guess The Butterfly Effect was ok. I'm still waiting for a film that I thought was brilliant. Oh and Kill Bill Vol:2 wasn't that bad

I think your talking about Infernal affairs. If so check out parts two and three not as good.

    I also liked Carandiru.

    Intermission or spin the bottle

Two films that were a complete waste of my time and money.

I'd have to go for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Loved every minute of it. The portrayal of the relationship was very realistic.

It's unfortunate that you can't beat it, because if I could I'd happily pummel "Spin the Bottle" into a bloody, twitching, pulp so that it, or any other movie like it, would never ever appear on a cinema screen near me again.:dunno:

I'd like to say Eternal Sunshine, but it really didn't move me as much as I'd hoped (although I figure seeing it with a couple of drinks on me will have me in tears).

Torque was easily the most entertaining movie I've seen all year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,886 ✭✭✭Marq

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (just to be original :))
Also saw Goodbye Lenin for the first time on DVD the other day and it's excellent.

Films this year were a bit disappointing.
    I did like Eternal Sunshine...
Kill Bill 2 was not very impressive, although I did like the Superman spiel at the end, other than that the dialogue was very bland.
Troy was disappointing, but I liked the Hector vs. Achilles scene.
21 Grams was good, I liked the dialogue, but I don't know, it didn't really move me.
Thought Mystic River was good, but not incredible.
Shaun of The Dead was a good laugh.

There was nothing really hard hitting this year, and it seemed to me that a lot of directors are taking this whole "different style" approach and yet everything is coming out the same.

Lookin forward to SpiderMan 2, hope Sam Raimi can quell the "sequels are crap" cliche. Raimi's A Simple Plan, now thats a movie I recommend. Very cleverly executed.

Eternal Sunshine - definitely the best this year (ROTK was last year people). Just saw it last night (after much convincing of my woman to come with me).

I loved it. It wasnt confusing "for the sake of it" as someone said - once you got used to the idea of what was going on it was quite easy to understand. Everything about it - the plot, the way it was made, the characters, the actors, the acting, the special effects, the end - Ay, ay, ay - it was just fantastic. Suprisingly my woman really loved it aswell (she usually dosent go for the wierdy type films at all).

Loved dawn of the dead aswell. A good old splat-fest. The zombies were brilliant.

HATED troy. HATED IT I tell ye.

Ah - eternal sunshine - just deadly.

At No. 1: Eternal Sunshine - really interesting, superbly directed and acted movie
At No. 2: Shrek 2 - Not sure if it's as good as the first one but it's still a legend of a movie - the new characters are great (esp. Puss... In Boots)
At No. 3: Dawn Of The Dead - Sheer fun, laughs and frights

    Stinker - Van Heilsing

So Far I think it has to be Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Mystic River. Are the bookies giving ods on the Oscars yet cos I think Carey's going to walk with best actor...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Eternal Sunshine it is for me.

Closely followed by 21 Grams and The Cooler.

i'm interested in seeing spotless mind, but i refuse to indulge any movie that attempts to endorse carrey as a serious actor

the man is EVIL folks, pure evil, can't you see?

    so i'll pass.

best movie this year- door to door (on sky last thursday)

worst- gothika (i was shushed three times for laughing at it)

other than that, cinema has been really disappointing this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

I agree with Carrey being a shoe-in for Best Actor.

But i honestly think (even though i hated her in every other role) - Kate Winslet deserves that Best Actress Oscar.

Should be Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind's year at the next Oscars.

having made my feelings on carrey (grr) clear

the movie was out too early to be considered for oscars. historically, the movies that do best in the oscars see release in the us for september or later.

and can you imagine carrey gurning at his acceptance speech?

oh dear god i need to lie down.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, but i read somewhere that they're delaying the DVD release of it til the end of September. It was due out last month on DVD in the US.

But something to do with the fact they're delaying it til then make it's eligible for Oscar Nominations.

I honestly hope Carrey wins an Oscar (after Bill Murray losing his to Sean Penn - don't get me started on Sean Penn's very average performance in Mystic River - honestly thought Tim Robbins outacted him, while Bill Murray gave one of the best performances of his career in 'Lost In Translation' - apart from his brillant turn as Herman Blume in 'Rushmore').

Anyways, sorry got side-tracked there, I honestly think he's never really given a bad performance in the film (apart from "The Grinch" and "The Majestic"..... what was he thinking?).

Thought he was brillant in The Truman Show and in Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

He needs more serious roles in the future... his comedy is getting worn thin very quickly! ('Bruce Almighty' being a prime example)

no way! the grinch is a legend, and truman sucks!

carrey is at his most irritating when attempting 'serious' roles.

his best have been ace ventura, grinch and dumb and dumber.

i just really hate his incessant gurning. can the man keep a straight face at all?
