The Dream

I have been inspired by Zoton's thread and I've decided to go one better. The idea is to create your ultimate rig. Anyone who plays any instrument is welcome and there's no budget. Everything possible should be included, including modifications to the instrument. To start this off mine is as follows:

    Head: Marshall DSL100
    Cab: Marshall 1960A
    Cables: Planet Waves
    Pedals: Digitech WH-2 Whammy
    Morley "Bad Horsie" VAI-1
    Boss OD-20
DOD Graphic Fuzz (Can't remember model)
    Marshall Vibratrem
    Strings: Elixir .12's
Guitar: Les Paul Classic with a SD 59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge
Picks: Jim Dunlop USA Nylon .88's

Now everybody else has the idea. Be creative. And try not to just list off your own gear, even if it is everything you've ever wanted. *looks around at certain Boards members* Well good luck,

    Dave

    That's the dream.

Here's the reality. Leave college. Get a crap job with a twat for a boss who makes like miserable. Work like a dog and save what you can. Compromise your dream rig. Then just compromise... forever ;)

Dream though, is 58 Les Paul standard and 62 Fender Jazz (concentric pots) and a 66 Fender Precision. I'm not greedy ;)

Guitar: Custom Baritone 7 string, Floyd Rose with Piezo's, Dual EMG 81-7's, 26 fret, frets 20-26 scalloped, neckthrough, neck (maple-wenge-maple-wenge-maple), body (mahogany)
    Effects: Midi Ground Controller
    G-Major
    Rack mounted Dunlop Crybaby
    Various boutique flangers, delay, reverbs
    Preamp: Mesa Boogie Triaxis
Power Amp: Mesa Boogies Strategy 400
Cabs: 2 Mesa Boogie 4x12's with Celestion Greenbacks
    Some wireless system or something

Yes, that'll do. Donations to my guitar fund gratefully accepted!

    OK.

    Guitars:

4 Flat top Les pauls. 1 with standard Les paul HW tuned to standard. 2nd the same for drop D tuning. 3rd with Floyd Rose. 4th as a 7 string model.

All fitted with SD Alnico 2's in the bridge and a P90 soapbox on the neck.
Also a Roland Midi pickup and Ghost graphtech acoustic saddles in the bridges.

    Amp:

    Marshall TSL100 head
1960A angled cab. One off stage and one on for feedback and beating the **** out of!

Effects between the guitar and amp:

    Dunlop Crybaby Wah
    Z VEX Fuzz Probe
    Boss EQ pedal

Effects in the loop (rack mounted):

    Shure UHF wireless system (yeah!)
Digitech Whammy (with expression pedal fed to the front of stage)
Line 6 Echo Pro, Mod Pro and Pod Pro rack effects (with Midi control floorboard fed to the front. Whammy will also be connected to Midi system).

I think that's dreamy enough for now.

You dream of having .88 - 1mm picks? Jesus, man. Get a life! ;)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

    1.5mm! The only way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

88's lads, FFS. They're the way forward :)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Wanna send me a pack? Cos the local guitar shop haven't a clue about picks. I went in one day looking for Jazz III's and I got a blank look. Said they were by dunlop so they offered me black nylon 1mm jobs. FFS.

There is a place that does them you know. I can't remember the web address but they cost something like a tenner with a chain. they do solid silver ones as well.

In my local bar, Connollys of Leap if anyone has heard of it, the owner has a black '72 Telecaster that I would love to afford.
I would also take his drum kit and sound system :).

Would love the wall of marshall stacks in the darkness video "Growing On Me" :)

    wishlist:

    Les Paul Studio, sunburst
1962 (pre-CBS) Fender Jaguar, natural finish
Fernandes Native Pro and Ravelle w/sustainers
    pre-CBS Blue Strat
    Black Tele
Too many tunings for just one guitar (current favourite g-a-b-d-e-g, mmm, nice)

Hughes & Kettner Tri Amp I mean just look at this into Marshall 1960A and B.

Marshall Plexi into Marshall 1960A and B

The above plus Engl Fireball and Hiwatt Custom 100 for studio recording.

Lots of pedals, though I'm quite happy with my current set-up here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Right, after careful consideration, my current "dream" is to get my second guitar, which, at the moment is a Les Paul Studio (Though I have a good feeling that that'll change many times before I get it  ) And run it through my G30RCD, get a footswitch, and the wah and whammy I mentioned before. I'm only bout EU1750 off now. Now for gainful employment!

I know it's a bit muso-y to be talking about plec dimensions, but personally I can't go over or under a .60mm.

Anything lighter feels like paper and anything heavier makes me feel like I'm gonna tear the strings off strumming! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 698 ✭✭✭Zoton

I only ever used 0.60 myself for a long time, but now i use either .73 or .88; 0.60 just feels too light to me now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,117 ✭✭✭Eoin Madsen

Funny, I never go over a .88mm - 1.00mm feels like playing with a coin or something. I generally use a .60mm for strumming, but lately I've started using a .43mm.

I'd want a '82 Gibson Les Paul Custom Silverburst
    A TC SCF Chorus pedal
And a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier

And a roadie for each item. Including my plecs.

While I'm at it, I want a Senn MD421 mic for that amp. And the TC System 6000 somewhere at the other end of that mic. And I need a TC Triple C (multiband compressor) and a great big Klark-Technik Graphic EQ somewhere in the chain too. I guess that means three more roadies.

Orange County custom kit, Transparent red with black pentagrams over it.
    20" Bass Drum
    10", 12", 13" Rack Toms
    14", 16" Floor Toms
    13" X 3" snare used as normal
14" X 6" snare set to the side
Tama Iron Cobra Double bass pedal
    Pearl hardware
Sabian AA Metal-X Cymbals (full set)
    LP 6" and 8" Cowbells
My own signature Zildjian sticks - slightly thicker than Travis Barker sticks but the same length.

A roadie to tune the bastards!

No point, I have no interest in what bloody guitar he's playing. Everybody knows guitars just fill the thin frequencies a bassist would be embarrassed to put out.

And everyone knows bassists are supposed to just look at their feet when they play.

BTW, that 6 string Ibanez looks good on you......
