Slendertone Belts do they work.

    Would you believe it I got given one of these slendertone belts yesterday.

    Dont know much about them but do they actually work anyone had any results from them ??

    I think you need to have very low body fat for them to work, and even then the results aren't great. You should probably use it along with weight training.

    Personally i'm terrified of the things - it's like touching an electric fence every 5 seconds! :-(

    I was always curious to know whether they were any good. But I've got sensitive skin, so I'm very jumpy and I'd probably just be torturing myself :D

    They wont turn a beer belly into a six pack, but if you use it as part of a training regime i.e. good bit of cardio and some weights then it will work

    All they do is send an electrical pulse which makes your muscles contract. I'm sure if you google it you'll find more in-depth stuff.

    Haven't they been known to screw up some peoples hearts because of the electrical impulses messing with teh hearts own pacemaker?

    Anyway, in order to have a visible six-pack you have to have a very low body fat. The belt may build up the muscle underneath the fat and may make the belly firmer and not as bouncy, but it won't get rid of the fat. You will have to do a lot of cardio to get a visible six-pack.

    There's always a minor risk associated with electrocuting oneself :) I'd say deaths and strokes from using it are few and far between - and that's down to a faulty ticker in the first place.

    It might help in between cardio sessions... but it won't do much. And (as said above) it will not give you a six-pack or anything close just from using it.

    Useless things, and from what I've heard once you stop using them the muscle turns to flab.

    Causing your stomach muscles to contract will firm them up. So in that respect, they do work to a certain degree.

    However, they will do very little to remove fat from your midsection. A common myth is that using muscles in a given part of your body recruits fat from that area. This is not true however, your body stores and uses fat in a predefined pattern.

    Going for a brisk walk for an hour will burn more calories than using a slendertone for an hour. This will result in more fat loss.

    So, if you want a harder stomach, you might find it useful.

    It you want a smaller waist, start walking, running, cycling etc.

    Oh I forgot to add this in last time! What kind of person gives you a fitness product as a gift?! Kinda seems like an insult hehe

    Is it not through though that the more muscle mass you have the more you burn fat while being idle than a person who has less muscle than you?

    It is pretty insulting really. Here's you present fattie :)

    It's true that the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn. But your abdominal muscle are proportiantly very small compared to the other muscles in your body. These muscles cover a small area, and are quite thin.

    The largest muscle groups are in the legs and buttocks. These are best places to add lean muscle mass. The larger the muscle group you train the more calories you burn.

    Training your stomach is going to add a very, very small amount of calorie burning muscle, and not likely to make a significant difference.

    Yeah that's kind of what I meant. Although when I said "flab" I meant untoned muscle. Not sure if that's just a myth or not. On one hand I heard if you stop exercising muscle it loses tone and goes "flabby", on the other hand I've heard that muscle doesn't lose tone, the flabby appearance is due to fat forming on top of the muscle (so given good enough dieting/nutrition you could get away with not exercising the muscle). I haven't heard of actual muscle loss before except through ageing or muscles being canabalised due to inadequate caloric intake, again myths abound.
