Was anyone listening to the Adrian Kennedy phone show on FM104 last night?

I listen to it the odd night to get a bit of a laugh from the idiots that phone up...

Last night there was a whole debate on how shirley temple bar from telly bingo was basically a monster and that he/she shouldn't be on daytime tv... some of the backward views that were being expressed were unbelievable!!!

Some people were saying that it will warp their kid's minds to see a man dressed up as a woman and turn all the little kids gay... it was ludicrous

For a country that thinks that it is forward thinking.... a lot of people are lagging way behind...

personally i dont mind who presents telly bingo... i think the show is a load of pants myself, but its good that rte can actually have a presenter like shirley temple bar on daytime tv...

    your views please....

is it right to have a cross dresser on day time tv?

I don't know what she is.

I am astonished that Telly Bingo has lasted so long. I think Shirley Temple Bar needs a co-presenter to bring the show to life, I find him so boring.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,070 ✭✭✭hedgetrimmer

Yes...everyone knows you can catch gay from TV and from hanging around with strange people...

The Sundays in the George are great by all accounts - I have never been there, but am looking forward to it when I get back to Dublin in August. I don't think it translates well to TV though, and I do find the TV show quite boring.

But it obviously has its appeal, and I think a lot of people enjoy the difference. Irish and EU laws on protections of minors and human dignity are pretty strict, so if anything was "wrong" with it, it would get picked up. Anyway, a lot of kids TV involves dress-up, and transvestitism - look at panto!

In short, I don;t ejnoy the show, but have know problem with it. I think most kids wouldn;t watch it as not enough happens to grab their attention. I certainly don't think it influences society unduly!

She's boring, but come on, turning kids gay? Ah the stupidity that abounds in the Irish population, it's a wonder these peope slipped through the natural selection process, although having 10 kids a pop might have had something to do with it. If I wanted to turn kids gay I'd donate blood to the IBTS and whoever gets a transfusion will catch gay off me :)

Everybody should have to cross-dress on TV. Make it a law.

Men have been dressing up as women for the purposes of entertainment since Greek and Roman times at the least! If someone has a problem with it, I'd suggest that they stick their rosary beads up their arse. I've never watched the show myself and quite honestly can't ever imagine my DVD collection being so decimated that I'd be reduced to watching cack like that but "morally wrong"?

Just another example of why this country needs to be purged of religeon and zealoutry.

I dunno about morally wrong, corrupting the nations youth or even turning people gay (rofl), but personally I wouldn't watch telly bingo because he freaks me right out. Every time I see an add for telly bingo I get an overwhelming urge to change channel, even if all that's on elsewhere is cricket.

It disturbs me. There's something so very disturbing about Shirley Temple Bar, and I don't know what it is. Maybe it that he/she/it takes themselves so seriously.

As for being damaging to kids? Pfft. Morons.

If Adrian Kennedy is against it, it must be good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Panto, men dressing up as women in Shakesphere plays.

Not sure if they equate to telly bingo.

I would be more worried about the children watching telly bingo.

Telly bingo's just a sucky show. That's why you feel the urge to switch channel. Does anyone get upset when they see a woman in a pair of jeans?

I usually never listen to those late night radio talk shows, but it was on in the spawell snooker club last night & I have to say I fell around laughing @ some of the backward sh!te that some people were spouting!

My personal favourite being the woman who was afraid her boys would start wearing womens clothes & then turn gay from watching Shirley Temple Bar :D

I really don't care if she's a he dressed as a she or what not ... I never watch the show, but (s)he must have some appeal because the show seems to be going for ages & if everyone had a problem, they'd show their distaste by not watching the programme :dunno:

It may be a crap show, but that's not the reason I switch channel at great speed. I have a wonderful capacity to sit through even the worst that TV can throw at me. I mean I've sat through Emmerdale & Home and away for Gods sake! I think seamus summed it up nicely though, theres just something very disturbing about "Shirley"

Oh dear. Really I do shake my weary head at the stupidity of some people at times. You can catch it from watching her? Well then parents beware - I'm spreading the disease!!! You can catch Gayitis from being near me  If I had heard that on radio, I'd probably have gone ballistic.

The main reason not to have Shirley Temple Bar on screen is because Telly Bingo, twice a week, is crap. It's just dull and Shirley Temple Bar's personality never comes across on it although, to be honest, I've only ever seen the tail end of hir Bingo stint in the George on Sundays.

What I'd love to see is them let Annie Balls have a go at doing Winning Streak. Anyone who has seen hir do the Thursday night quiz slot in the G will know why I say this - it'd be hilarious and I reckon people would enjoy it :p

I agree. This transvestite evil must be stamped out before any more young men are tempted by the allure of the tender caress of silk and lace next to the skin. Oh God can you imagine being forced to wear nylons? Can you imagine slowly rolling a pair of stockings up your firm strong shapely calves and thighs?

Transvestites indulging in their evil perversion:

(but seriously people dressed like the ones above - and for legal purposes NOT the guys in the photograph - actually have in reality come closer to "turning kids gay" (as the f-wits on the phone in would put it) by ass-raping them. I find Shirley Temple Bar annoying so I just switch channel)

Raping those kids made those kids very screwed up, gave them a lot of emotional problems, which may have made them very confused people. There's no evidence that it actually turned them gay.

Of course you are right - should have put "turned kids gay" in parentheses to show I was refering to the language in the complaints by the f-wits on the Adrian Kennedy show.

But my point is which is the greater threat to childrens' "moral safety", an annoying tranny git on TV or the danger of being sodomised by someone in a position of trust? I assume the people getting their underwear in a knot over Shirley Temple Bar are good conservative Christians, the type who would have been very reluctant to believe anything bad about the church.

(just edited first post to reflect this)

It's another half-arsed attempt by RTE to clone BBC/ITV personalities, albeit 10 or 20 years later — Lily Savage, Julian Clary etc.

The puff isn't even vaguely funny.

    Kill it.

Personaly I hate that... thing.. on the telly, and tihnk it is wrong having her/him/it there! But, then again, lilly savage... ? I never had a problem with Lilly...

I dunno, I think it is mainly just this particular idiot, in general it would be ok. What harm is it doing? Corrupting our children?? Well lets face it most will have no idea what she is, probably think it is just a woman like mummy, albeit a little on the manly side.... like mummy? Ok, perhaps.

    ok well.

First of all, working in a shop that sells Lotto tickets I can safly say that it is only old women/women over 60 that actually seem to paly Telly Bingo. Anybody that regularly watches Telly Bingo will probably be dead within 20 years.

I think what people really have a problem with is that RTE are trying to copy what the BBC/ITV did like 10 years ago with Lilly Savage etc. That whole Transvestite presenter act thing has died a death and you never see it on TV, why RTE decide to reinstate a old and dead act is beyone me. Also, there are enough presenters already on the RTE payroll who could do the show without having to add another. Where the hell did they find her/him anyway?

Wait .. am I trying to make any sort of serious point on After Hours? Screw this.

Guest spots on Live at Three. Also, the main thing I'd imagine, is that Shirley Temple Bar hosts bingo in the George every Sunday night. Naturally that can lead to a telly bingo job. The show is still crap however.

sundays in the george are brilliant! she slags the arse off everyone. pity they cant have that on RTE! the aul grannies would probably die of shock. they probably dont even know shes actually a man......bless their cotton support stockings!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,255 ✭✭✭TCamen

Some very funny quips on the thread so far :D

Don't really see the problem with her being on TV. I used to catch the tail-end of the late night repeats of Telly Bingo before 'Once and Again' on Thursday nights. Shirley is oddly hypnotising, I'd want to turn it off, but I just couldn't. Thank God 'Once and Again' is finished so I don't have to watch it anymore. She fluffs so many of her lines, and they're just numbers

Seriously though, she's fine in the George where she's allowed to curse, bitch & insult people-- just like a good drag queen. It doesn't translate well with the terrible show that is 'Telly Bingo', but ultimately there's nothing wrong with her being on TV, just a shame it isn't a better vehicle for her talent. ;)

Kids love weird things (think of the Teletubbies etc.) so I wouldn't be worried about him "corrupting" their minds or some ****.

And if you don't like him/the programme don't watch it.

    ...

I don't see what the problem is really.

If kids are so bored they need to watch Bingo on television for entertainment, then we have a problem.
