Yeah, such be on mtv dance me thinks. Then again mtv is a pop channel and its a pop song.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,048 ✭✭✭DerekD Goldfish

They are dredful faux-goth so the fact mtv are playing them isnt surprising that fact that anyone likes them not so much surprising as depressing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 763 ✭✭✭goo

Yeah, that song's getting heavy rotation on MTV2 aswell, MTV everything, apparently.

I find it totally grating, there's no hand gesture or noise crude enough to do it justice, absolute pish in my eyes.

    Agreed, it does blow.

I'm waiting for a cartman cover, that "in the shadows" bit just begs to have the piss taken.

Can't remember last time MTV showed a music video.

Saw the song on The Music Factory though. Didn't mind it that much

I've heard of them, but it's only been bad things I've heard.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 358 ✭✭begbie

I've heard another song by them. Just as bad as that current one.:dunno:

I remember seeing it on Scuzz, Kerrang and MTV2 all at once. I still suffer from flashbacks after that... :(

I remember when I first saw it on Scuzz, I said to my sister that it would be all over the pop channels within a couple of weeks.

    Bleedin rabbit-man singing....

It's not even catchy. It's just bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

everyone says it's catchy but isn't a catchy song one you can't get out of your head and who's lyrics become implanted in your brain eternally? because if so then this aint a catchy song. it's a bad one...

and if you pay mtv enough you'll get heavy rotation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭Dathai

I heard them today, bunch of cr@p to be honest. It will be the new trend now I'd say.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 849 ✭✭✭Liquorice

Some ditz in my class asked if they were 'metal'. I laughed and told her that from the half-song I'd heard they sounded like Busted. She became quite offended and defensive and informed me that I didn't know what 'real' music was. Teeheehee....

Dont know any of the words or anything but its a good song :)

Strikes me as very teeniegothic though.

And on that note, what does everyone think of HIM? I thought they were really bad the first few times I heard them, I basically thought that they were twats. Then I saw some of their older stuff on Scuzz, and I downloaded a couple more. Now I love them, their guitarist has some wacky ass stuff going on. I'm actually surprised that I like them now, considering how much I once despised them!

im pissed of with this ****. It would be ok if they sold it as pop song cus thats what it is but to try and pass it of as somthing romotly alternitive is just a ****ing insult to music lovers weather they be goth or not

I really like "In the Shadows" actually. Granted, it is quite poppy mixed with a bit of a goth image but that doesn't bother me in the slightest. As far as the music goes, I like it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,918 ✭✭✭Deadwing

I love the way they stick feathers in the singers hair, and the camera never stays on him for longer than 3 seconds so you dont actually notice that hes a tubby minger *L* Absolute pish, watered down, TV/radio friendly pseudo-goth. Youll more than likely never hear from them again after this single/album.
Is it just me tho, or is this whole 'rock is commercially viable again' thing starting to bug you? At first i was happy to see more rock bands int he charts, but now it seems the record companies are flooding the charts with any old 'rock' band they can get thier hands on in an attempt to make some quick cash. Most of these bands youll never hear of again, and its a slap in the face for good rock bands whove been around for years releasing critically acclaimed albums to smaller audiences, playing smaller venues, while these f*cking little pop stars are parading around like real 'rock stars', playing huge gigs, heavy rotation on tv and radio, massively selling debut albums, raking in the money, only to disappear after one album. Papa roach, im talking to you.

As for HIM, i quite like them, ive only got love metal tho, but its a fairly good album.

    http://www.therasmus.com/biography/

have you read their biography, they are so far up their own arses its unreal.

go to 'the band' and you'll find **** like this:

"Lauri, a singer whose voice is full of fire and soaring beauty,
is also one of the most appreciated composers in Finland today."

"He [bass player] finds his strength in meditation and music. "Sahaja yoga gives me a peace of mind", the soulful bass player explains."

I remember watching some music program and they said these were the ones to watch out for in 2004. That given the success on mainland Europe they're gonna be a massive hit. In the shadows is probably the only decent song on the album which isnt saying much.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

Energetic, rambunctious and powerful are three words that describe The
    Rasmus best.

exactly the three words I would have chosen, had I been asked. that's uncanny :D

I love that band, but hate In the Shadows with a fiery hot passion. Some of their older stuff is really great though.

My rock chick wannabe friend likes them...that says enough for me.
the singer isnt bad looking though

He doesnt look like a rabbit....hmm?? Rabbits dont have black hair with feathers in it.
His hair is probably the only thing thats nice about him.
and hes got money...which is always an advantage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

First time I saw the guy, I thought he had the head of a rabbit, then I realised they were feathers in his hair. Maybe he's some sort of rabbit/bird clone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 735 ✭✭✭beardedchicken

umm.... can someone tell me what the deal is with the feathers? what exactly are they meant to represent?
you can bet from the quotes someone posted earlier that there's some really deep, philosophical, and ultimately ársey meaning behind them, like that they represent the ethereal beauty of a finnish fjord or some such bunkum....

The Rasmus's In the Shadows is annoying at this point, but there other songs are alot better. Have a listen to their album, and you might change your mind!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 764 ✭✭✭jmc

Any of ye heard any of their older albums?

See HIM are coming back here again in October btw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭UnrealQueen

They are brilliant! I cant stop listening to them!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,012 ✭✭✭munkeehaven

i heard them first when i was in germany for a few days..''in the shadows'' sounded good over there, it was to do with the atmosphere or something, but over here i'm not that excited about it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 39 villain_97

While I admit they are not all that ''Rocky'' I actually think The Rasmus are pretty decent. They really get clubs going, and their music has great energy. We should be glad to see new bands appearing (especially Scandanavian bands who don't attempt to resemble ABBA!!).They have potential and in a few years could be one of the best Rock Bands

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

if all the other real rock artists died in the next couple of years, then yes.. maybe

Living in Germany and the Rasmus and HIM are huge here, and while on Finnish bands so is Nightwish. Not too impressed on the Rasmus, trying too hard to be mainstream and their songs begin to annoy after a while. Some of their older stuff is ok, like Falling and Days. Plus I heard they are s***e live. Saw HIM live last month, he headlined the Provinsirock festival in Finland. I was impressed with the performance, the guy can really sing!! Haven't seen Nightwish live but I really like their older stuff, not too impressed with their new album, apart from Nemo, plus I can't stop playing their Gary Moore cover of "Over the hills and far away"!!
