    Hey.

I'm thinking about getting my nape (back of my kneck) pierced and was wondering if anyone else had this done.

I'm mainly concerened (apart from the pain) about healing times and whether you catch it on stuff (shirts and what not).

    Any help would be great!

its grand, go for it, you'll love it.

personally, i thought it hurt like a bitch, but im not great with pain.

be careful in the shower if u use one of those fluffly loofah things, not to catch it on the piercing, and when ur brushing ur hair, but other than that its grand. doesnt really catch on much else as far as i remember. mine's completely healed now and doesnt hurt at all (even when my little cousin decided to 'try to pull it out')

go for it go for it go for it!

ive never had one but i reckon they're a bit dodgy. every person i've known with one has had to get rid of them cos they started growing out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 574 ✭✭✭Silent Grape

best person to talk to it about is a wellknown piercer imo, or people who are misinformed might start telling u its 'dodgy'.

eyebrow piercings grow out all the time. are they dodgy too??

YES!!!! :-( But those things are dangerous with any piercing heh!
I have mine done over a year now and it's showing no signs of growing out. Ken in Celestial Ring did it for me and i'm going to get a 2nd done soon. I didn't find it painful at all and the only thing it gets caught on is those damn shower puffs :(

i found the nape one of my sorest, for the main reason that its a big clump of skin, when the needle is out its grand though, its way sorer than the lip, eyebrow, nipple, any part of the ear, and im sure the tongue aswell[will let u know saturday week].. the healing isnt as bad as i thought its a bitch to clean i just pour salt over it when im in the shower, works great

sound wave it means the skin keeps getting thinner n thinner and eventually breaks.. iv got it done twice so the one closest to my ear is very thin but it hasnt falling out since i got it done nearly 2years, but i had it out for 7-8months just put them back in bout a week ago, holes still fresh never healed..

It means your body starts to reject it, just like if you got a thorn or some other foreign body stuck in your skin, your body will start to push it out as it knows it's not part of your body. But don't worry, it's something you'll notice gradually happening...it doesn't just pop out of your skin with no warning :-)

As I said, i've had my nape over a year now and it shows no signs of growing out.

oh right, heard that from a few of my friends but they didnt call it growing out.

    thanks for the replies guys

id like to get my nape done too, seen it on a few people around and i think it looks good!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭screamager

yeah i do think eyebrow piercings are dodgy. what annoys me is that the two times i got it pierced neither of the places mentioned this possibility. if you're gonna pay a mad amount of money for a surface piercing i think you should be told that there is a chance you'll lose it.

want to explain how i'm misinformed?

Nope, i've never had an infection in any piercing. You'd have to be a real dirtbag to get one, or be pierced by a dirtbag - naming no names *COUGH* Georges St Arcade *COUGH*. :-)

What do you mean 'the smaller staple'? You don't change to a smaller staple with a nape piercing, in fact I wouldn't recommend changing the jewellery in it once it's healed unless you're taking it out for good, it's pretty sore and nasty.

Has anyone ever had a surface piercing on their breastbone (middle of the chest, vertical)?? Been thinkin of gettin it done, just wanted to know if piercers use ordinary barbells or proper surface bars??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭sound_wave

so will my eyebrow piercing eventually grow out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭I am MAN

    hey

I've my wrist and nape pierced you have gotta have the right anatomy to hold the wrist one the majority will just migrate and the nape wasnt a painful piercing at all just a slight pinch with each breech of the skin and healing or clothing have never been a problem it wasnt even uncomfortable to sleep on I would defo not be put off this piercing by pain or healing.

It's a special surface bar. A normal barbell would most certainly grow out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 498 ✭✭Zapper

    OK....

I went in yesterday to have a chat to my piecer. She said she couldn;t guarentee that it wouldn;'t grown out and that it would probably leave a pretty bad scar if it did, so i decided against it.

I'd gotten myself all worked up for it too, had to get my wrist tattoo'd instead :p

Cheers for the help and advice on the subject anyways :)

your eyebrow piercing might or might not grow out...its about 50/50. i had mine done twice and neither grew out. the second one got a lot of abuse too cos i was puttin a big straight retainer in it every day.

eth0_ i know your not supposed change the staple but as my neck is skinny i havnt much skin there but she had to put a normal bar in to let room for swelling and the likes, in a week shes changing it to a smaller bar i can see it being very ****in sore but at the moment the bar is sticking out a awful lot so im not looking forward to that day:/

I've never heard of this before, anyone else? Where did you get it done?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭sickle

well with a staple bar it would hurt after any swelling went down 'cause the corners would be poking out either end!
got mine done with a curved barbell, never had to change it,i love it!:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 574 ✭✭✭Silent Grape

wher'd u get it done cartman?

You got a nape piercing done...with a curved barbell? They should only be done with a surface bar (looks like a staple)....who did that to you?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,443 ✭✭✭cartman

i know your not supposed to change the bar but in my case you will have to, i got it done by a good friend of mine, shes the piercest in town and i told her i didnt want the bar sticking out so shell change it, it will be very painful id say..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭sickle

    got it in bodyshock
tis grand actually, have it over 2 years now. its a very long curved barbell not a silly little thing. dont like the staple ones,i find them very uncomfortable....

i got my nape pierced 3-days ago... i know i am not supposed to touch it at all, but i couldn't help but reach up and feel in the middle, where the bar is located under my skin and it feels like its swollen, or like, pushing up. does that mean its rejecting? its hard to tell if its all red or anything, because i have a tattoo on my nape too. so the skin is all multi-colors in between the balls! any ideas? or is this normal?

this is my first surface piercing... other than that i have just my lobes, my left ears cart, my navel and my tongue...

You'll be Hard pushed to find someone in Dublin City or in Ireland who'll do that for you. The only way I could see any of them doing it is as an implant & implants in the chest most of the piercers in Dublin have a complete "hell no way will I do that for you!" attitude to..... But you can always ask, if needs be go see Ken in Celestial Ring in Stephen's Green, he's been doing alot of experimentation with implants & is really rather good...

I had the centre of my done for ages. Glen in fantasia's done it proper surface bar etc. had to take it out due to working as a courier and my bag strap kept catchiing it. IMO glen is the best man to see for surface and implants in dublin.

usmcbutterfly: sounds like normal after piercing swelling give it a week and it should be fine.

i didnt realise so many people had surface piercings, the guy who started this topic(sorry cant remember his name), he really shouldnt have back out of getting it done, i had wanted to get the back of my neck done for years and one day when brought my friend into get her first piercing i got the urge you know that feeling you get once you go into a tattoo parler, and so i just went for it, its not painful at all, then again i love getting pierced!! its now my favourite of all my piercing, its completely different, i love the feeling when people play with it!! mines only ever got caught in my clothes, and it hasnt happened since....i really want to get a new piercing been really thinking about getting my wrist pierced...what that like???

    they generally reject.
I begged a piercer to do my wrists for about 2 years and he'd always refuse, actually i begged 3 piercers...haha.
ended up getting implants instead, placed to look like a surface bar.

and who did you're neck for you, just out of interest?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 jen_ring

i got the back of my neck done in raven in cork, although he gave me a the wrong bar but it hasnt caused any problems, its hasnt been rejected, and i love it......id say i will get my wrist pierced, a friend od mine had is arm done, it looked really nice....if i had none that giving piercing would be this addictive i never would have started!!! any one recommend any good and different places to get pierced......

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

tattoo zoo in cork is the only place I'll go to.
    Bodyshock in Dublin.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 919 ✭✭✭Shelli

I have the nape done about 2 years now and i've been told by my piercer that the bar will need to be changed soon, as surface piercings migrate slightly you will have to change the bar to ensure the balls stay flush with the skin. I have had absolutely no problems with mine, I even got it framed with a white ink tattoo.

I had two surface bars on my chest bone in a V-shape, nothing but trouble with those, very hard to heal. I got them done at a convention and they were tricky right from the start. I would definately have them done again though, in a studio this time, as soon as the scaring fades a bit Ill do it again!

I've seen some of the "experiments" coming out of Celestial Ring, very cool. Wha i've seen consist of a Kevlar implant being incerted under the skin and a steel ball screwed on top, no need for a bar then, less trauma and more design options

i've had my neck pierced for a few months now, and a lump of hard skin has formed on one side of the piercing....just wondering should i take it out?? or is there anything i can do to rid myself if the lump....???

Sound like the start of a keloid scar, go see your piercer!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

    yeah, could be a keloid.
clean it twice a day with saline solution and massage zinc(15%) cream into in aswell.
    Should clear up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 919 ✭✭✭Shelli

Zinc cream, never heard that one before. Do you think it would work on old scars?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

um..It might. Zinc has really good healing properties.
It's worth a try, it's only about a fiver anyway and you'll get it in any chemist. The only one I was able to find down here was in a small round white pot with a blue label, just incase you can't find any.
I use it a lot, it cleared up a keloid on a surface piercing on my belly for me and I make my sister use it to clear up her nasty looking ones on her nape.
Right now I'm mainly using it to clear up a scar I have from getting my implants. Scars take quite a while to turn white, on me, but it's healing it up much better. So I don't see why it wouldn't work on old scars too!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

oh and jen ring, I just remembered that you said you got you're nape pierced in raven.
um...I'm assuming he used a curved bar, cos that guy is well...not at all expierenced when it comes to doing things like surface piercings.
so it could also be that it's starting to move out.
If you could post pics, it would be great to see.

Heres my 2, both done by sean in snakebite. the top one is 3 years old and the bottom about 2 n a half. Never had much trouble, only when i caught it in stuff. I found them quite painless to have done but sometimes sore to lie on while healing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

    very nice!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 ponderosa

    Hey

Just got a surface bar put in my nape there about six weeks ago and haven't had any major difficulties with it, thankfully.
Was thinking about getting my wrist done and was wondering if anyone out there has got it done and has any advise, anecdotes etc...

    Thanks!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,183 ✭✭✭✭Will

Notorious for healing, especially wrist ones because you bash your hands of stuff all the time. Alot of movement will aggravate the piercing also. was gonna try it but with sports etc wouldnt heal. maybe when i get lazier :)
go for it if you wanna ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

you'll find it hard to get a good piercer to do surface piercings on wrists...I'd begged certain piercers for about 3 years to do mine and not one of them would do it, just cos they'd reject, I stil would of loved to try them. But even my friends who are good piercers wouldn't...so I got implants in them instead  but it was placed to look like a surface piercing...

i still would like to give them a go though!!
