Protruding veins

I've started doing dumbell work recently and noticed that as I'm excercising, particularly then doing curls, the veins in my arms become very prominent, take a very dark blue/purple colour and begin to protrude. It goes away and they fade back to normal in less than a minute after stopping but t looks disgusting and is kinda worrying me. It doesn't happen with other kinds of excercise either, just the weights.
Anyone ever heard of this happening?
Is it just the blood flow to my arms isn't strong enough or something? Should I see a Doctor about it?

I'm very healthy other than that and at a good level of physical fitness, playing football and working out several times a week. Am I getting hung up on nothing?

    Cheers.

It's perfectly normal. As you work your muscles, you body has to work much harder pump blood in and out of them to try to replenish the oxygen and remove the lactic acid build up. This is the reason your muscles swell when you lift wights. It's because so much extra blood is being pumped into them. Your blood vessels will expand to accomodate this extra blood flow.

If you have very little fat on your arms, they blood vessels will be much more apparent.

I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about.

i don't think it's anything to worry about. Some people naturally have fairly protruding veins, and as you work you, you are putting them under even more pressure.
