you can book open ended return via www.nationalexpress.co.uk

Just did a quick search and you can get return from Dublin to London for £42 - probably close to 60 euro, returning within 6 months.
I haven't used the service though, so can't comment.

Haven't used the service for a good few years now but used to use it a lot Dublin ->Leeds. Have also done London -> Munich twice (which takes 24 hours). I was always well and truely shágged after those journeys.

Now that there are low air fares, i dont think it should be necessary to use Eurolines. Apart from the discomfort, it doesnt work out all that cheap once you factor in motorway services/ferry snack prices.

The services from Ireland are operated by Bus Eireann. They do on-line booking here https://www.buseireann.ie/EurolinesPublic/EurolinesPublicWebApp/EuroPublicTravelDetails.aspx worth trying there and national express (who own eurolines) to get the best price.

AFAIR to use the return you just book in at the ticket office anytime before departure. I am not sure what their policy is if the coach is full though, Bus Eireann have a policy of providing travel for everyone who turns up on national routes but on the eurolines routes I think it's tough luck if the bus is full.

It can be tiring getting the coach to and from Ireland but it is so much better and cheaper than driving.

I love travelling with Eurolines and this is what happened to me recently.

But before I go into this let me fill you in on what happened beforehand.

I got a Ryan Air flight over to London From Dublin to attend a business meeting.

I had planned to stay for a while and visit family but unfortunately, my bag got stolen and all my clothes, apart from what I was wearing were in the bag along with my passport, toiletries, overcoat and a few other personal things.

It was a warm day but it was cold later that night. I had nowhere to stay for the first night so I stayed awake getting shelter from the wind at a bus stop. So I turned up at the meeting without having a shower, without having brushed my teeth and inappropriately dressed wearing a t-shirt and a thin jumper.

I somehow managed to pull off my talk that was unprepared and I just said what popped into my head at the time.

I had no ticket and just turned up at the coach and to my surprise the driver let me on and said that I had to pay at Birmingham. when we arrived in the Midlands he said it was best to pay him the far side as it would be cheaper for me.

The music was great on the radio and there were even some football videos to watch that were on silent, for those that wanted to sleep.

I managed to get some sleep on the ferry which was the first time in almost 72 hours. So I was mentally and physically tired.

When I arrived at Busaras I genuinely forgot to pay him so he dropped me a hint, so I went to the ATM and paid him in cash. I was a little bit embarrassed about the whole situation and even forgot to tip him.

I don't know what would have happened if he hadn't let me on in the first place.

So that is why Eurolines Coach's was the best customer experience that I have ever experienced and I would highly recommend travelling with them.

ok, a bit random to resurect a thread after 19 years but anyhow...

indeed, the bus is back after a Covid break. For the purposes of research I did a couple of booking enquires and it seems that on National Express its 69pounds one way, with Bus Eireann €39 booked in advance, more expensive nearer the date

It doesnt run daily, only Thursday/Saturday from Dublin, Friday/Sunday from London/ Birmingham - https://www.expressway.ie/service-news/eurolines

For other days sail rail is the only option. Nowadays thats bookable via www.thetrainline.com from €53

  • Good review here. I could probably handle this if it was the day as there would something to look out at but not sure I could handle a night time journey in a cramped seat with a stranger beside me.
