Mp3 coding for a media player: Help!

Programming a media player, and have it playing WAV files, which was easy enough to do as Java supports Wav and Midi. But any pointers where to go for the aul Mp3? I've read up on it, Tags and what not. I know I need a decoder (or do ?). So basically I'm lost when i comes to Mp3, so any help would be cool.

Are you reading mp3 or converting?
If you're just reading mp3 - then it's easy enough...
