    Sounds good.

Tom will you be there? I can bring in the Theory of Poker for you if you are, but if you ain't I amn't carrying that into the casino. I look a big enough of a muppet without having a reference book by my side :)

Actually I'm tempted to just make an evening out of it ... anyone want to hit Fireworks first?

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Quozl, I'll be there. I'll stick it in my pocket. Would be grateful too as I'm going to Canada tomorrow and want a poker book to read!
Wont be at Fireworks first ... have to pack sometime!

I'll be at Henrys but can't afford to make a night of it. I'll only be buying in the once so expect my usual quick in quick out approach ;)

wtg amp :D I only got to 15th myself, and definitely could have played better. Oh -- the two guys sitting directly across from me on table three that I'm pretty sure were also from boards ... you guys were making fun of my playing weren't you :)

I admit I did a couple really stupid things early on, and tried to play a bit better after that ... but any pointers? I know you were definitely laughing at how quite a few of the other guys at our table went out :)

I was at your table and I thought you did very good. I was talking about some players but not you - the two younger guys who just called everything regardless of what they had. 15 th is very good and I think with a little experience you will get much better.

Were you sitting directly across from me, with the guy who had glasses to your left? He kind of reminded me of David Brent ... :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

I wasn't laughing at all. I didn't even release when it was down to two tables. I played very tight and when I did bet I bet agressively with good hands, which in fairness I got a boatload of. I semi-bluffed a couple of times with A-lowx only to be called and twice my low x found a pair on the flop. This included the last hand of the night when I knocked out a granny's big slick with A4 diamonds.

Seemed to get much more table respect than I deserved. Had one particular tense moment when this (according to Viv) millionaire guy was thinking of calling me on my 6k raise (about 25% of my chips). He took ages to decide and I was sitting there smiling with my K8o praying he wouldn't call me.

He didn't and I stole the chips with not a little inner glee.

Felt like a complete newb towards the end as it was my first time at the last table but I tried to use that to my advantage by trying to appear a lot looser than before. And the cards just kept being my friends.

I'm not going to be changing my sig any time soon though, just in case it was that ;)

    David Brent here.

Well done Amp. I assume you did that gratis or did you have to splash out at all?
Casper if you are who I think you were (does that make sense) then I don't think we were making fun of you. You were playing well. There were some crazy calls from guys on your left and as much as I try not to say anything it's difficult not to comment with the madness on show.

You and Hyzepher definitely had a handle on the players are our table; give me a few months and I may get there :)

Btw, who was the guy at our table in seat 7 or 8 who amassed the Great Wall of China? I noticed that post-freezeout he started losing them pretty quickly but he still had a respectable chunk when I left....

It's not the first time I've been called David Brent and it takes alot to cause me offence :) The guy on my left had a big stack and I've seen him at plenty of tourneys. He seems to be a reasonably good player.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭casper-

Yes i was particularly impressed on how he managed to eek out an extra 1500 from me in one of the later hands. I had the pocket pair of Js I think, flop was 237o or something, where we both checked both checked again on the turn and then on the river another low card came up and he almost checked but then tossed in cash. Little did I know he had been holding 3 2's since the flop .. very nicely played. Must keep that in mind :)

That was I  . Had 700 pre top-up and got a great couple of hands after that. Got up to about 7000 and blew the lot on a stupid stupid hand. Made a classic mistake of not concentrating on who was playing pre-flop. I was dealing and I made a move thinking that it was just I and the BB/LB in play. Had not noticed the raise in the corner. Still felt pretty good pre-flop with a K3 suited. Long story-short made a bad move on the flop and was seen all-in. Lost it to a straight. Ah-well. Only me 3rd game of TH, you live and learn.

I think I was about the fourth player gone after the freezeout started.
I think you all know my "All-in on 62o and triple through" story pre-freezeout. After the freezeout I had my 2 good pair nailed by slowplayed trip and was down to about 1000 with blinds at 200-400. I go all in 3 times in a row preflop, twice steal blinds, then my A-10 gets called by A-7 and he hits a 7 on the flop.

I was talking to a few guys in the "sore losers" corner and we were commenting on how Thursday nights is such a lottery. You raise preflop if you've a good hand, then go all-in if you think you're ahead on the flop. Seem to be the method to use.

    But I'm not bitter. :)

Cheers. I had budgeted for a buy in and a top up. I didn't need a buy in so I topped up to 7300 when the freeze came. Maybe I didn't need it but I did drink a lot of coke :)

15th snot half bad at all!
you gotta be pleased with that.

Great game last night. Saw some amazing hands,

Question: Who (at table 1) had that pair of aces that looked to be beaten
by a heart flush on 4th street only to hit another heart and get the nut flush....???
The man you went up against must have seen 4 hands all night
and took them all down.. till you that is !!!!

    The swings were huge.

Luke your 2 and 6 was the business!
    classic stuff.

I was well stacked before teh break but then
a pocket pair of aces didn't hold up and got beaten like above by
    a heart flush. gutted.

I went out 19th but for the first time
i didn't buy in or top up.
    free poker hurrah...!

definitely going to have to try this wsop tourney thats
    starting on sunday week.

Well done AMP on getting the ticket till I was moved from Table 1 to 2 beside Dev and he pointed out who you were.

What a disaster of a night hit nothing all night, couldnt even deal properly, didnt even make a good last stand. Oh well thats poker.

Next mission, travel to the Sunday Tourney to try and get to Vegas

I thought I saw you standing up on several occasions! ;)

Who else got tickets apart from the magical mystical Amp?

OMG.... that guy couldnt stop hitting things. After you, Muso and Casper were gone I was clawing my way back into the game, hit a mid pair of 8's and went all in as I was certain I was ahead. He calls a 10K all in with 4's so I'm happy. Turn comes a 4. River comes an 8 which gives me a set but makes him a house. Jammy f**ker!

I talked to him just as I was leaving saying "have you missed anything all night?" and he looks at me sheepishly and says "no man, I havent missed a flop".

I went out 10th and caused the final table to be formed. Didnt spend anything but a topup but was annoyed I didnt do better... still I'm happy enough.

I gutted Hobart I think, and then his friend after him if memory serves but Dave the Floor Manager took some nice pots off me and from the two lads too.

I think I was the third last Boardster to leave (didnt someone else make the final table along with Amp?).

Fun night but it would have been nice to round off the set as I took money away from the house on Monday and Wednesday so a ticket would have topped it all off!Cant complain, its funded my hols over here (Canada) nicely! *ahem* :)

    DeV.
