    - I agree with a lot of what Doctor J says regarding the lack of innovation the last 20-30 years in developing new song structures etc. The vast majority of rock music today is very derivative of older stuff, and while there are still albums with good solid tunes being released, there's no radical new direction or evolution evident. There are many bands out there trying not to stick to the formula, even in the mainstream - Radiohead for one, even U2 gave it a go in the 90's - but the results aren't original enough to really turn heads and push things forward.
    BUt then again, how far could you push punk? Or blues? Each of these genres have (IMO at least) finished their development. Is this the same in the case of rock,
    I wonder?
