As I am beginning to really feel my age. Being a genuine silver surfer in my late fifties. I was just wondering how many over fifties are members of Boards ? ...and who is the eldest member/poster ?.

Should we have a 'Silver surfers forum' for ourselves ?.

To post about the price of tea, how younger posters don't show enough respect, "In my day, we only had ASCII, and we were glad to get it!",that sort of thing?:)

heh, did you ever make an assumtion of someone and be completely wrong?
i thought you were 16 at most....

you know what they say, once a man twice a child.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭Paddy20

    Panda,

Yeah, maybe I am in my second childhood. To be honest I never expected to reach this age, the life I led.

All I can say is I do not regret a damn thing, and have no fear whatsoever of dropping dead.

As for anything else. I blame the medication!.

    P.;) :ninja:

BTW: Before jumping to assumptions about people, checking thier profile might help not to fall into that mistake, which I am guilty of as well.

    and younger than Paddy20

I am, as Kharn said to me once, 21 + a lot of VAT :D

I existed long before the First Age of Middle-Earth was even in the planning....

so whats it like being old?

I've a horrible fear of growing old and having not accomplished anything...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭Paddy20

Well I think getting old is bloody great. I can get away with anything and blame it on my absent mindedness.

I did more, and achieved more than I would ever have imagined, after growing into a teenager in the stifling fifties, but then came Rock & Roll and Elvis and everything changed.

The sixties arrived, I was in London at the right time and I was the right age.

Now, looking back I realise just how lucky I was. My memories are mainly very good and worth having.

TBH, I am glad I was young then, when everything seemed possible and new. It was a great era.

Now as I rapidly become a real oldie. It's fine with me. Whatever happens from here on in is also fine by me. Be it good or bad, painful or sad. No worries.

    P. ;) :ninja:

The Sixties - if you can remember them, you wern't there :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭Paddy20

I know, I know, all about that myth. Its not true!.

Believe me you always remember the unrepeatable feeling in the air, and the flowers in all the Girls/Womens hair, and the introduction of 'the pill'! yipee, no more rubber johnnies !, etc, etc.

Now to get back on topic. Why do you think Boards.ie members/posters are so reluctant to reveal thier age ?... I mean they have an anonymous name to hide behind ! .

    Very interesting, yes :dunno:

Yes, I like it, very appropriate, but how do we have the "smelly" as we do not have the smelly technology yet ?...

Get to smell Britney Spears online
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/1/14263.html
The device is plugged into the USB port of a computer, and the software will be downloadable. The iSmell works via a fan in the bottom - when an image is clicked on a tiny file moves from the server to the device, which it identifies as, say for perversion's sake, Britney's pigtails, and triggers the cartridge inside to emit the right scent mixture. And all before you can say "Hit me baby one more time".

pffff - these old timers, just can't keep up with todays technology ;)

If he registered in 2001 how does that make sense?

I'd hazard a guess at 1965 being the year he was born?

I'm surprised it wasn't thought of earlier tbh. It's been established that the human nose can only smell around 20 different smells. All others are compounds of these smells. Surely such an idea can't have taken so long to come into production.

Now I think I know why Boards.ie members/posters do not like to reveal any clue to their real age.

Its their damned ego, and they would just hate to have anyone think that they just might be becoming a bit 'Retro'! themselves.

Well listen youngsters. There is no avoiding getting older, and it happens quicker than you would believe. I well remember when I hit 40, my GP said to me " Well its downhill all the way for you from here on in " !. and he was bloody dead right from a general health point of view.

However, I have no death wish, and I consider getting older and not having had a fatal accident as extremely lucky. I am proud of my advancing years.

You see. I am not now and never have been an egotist, but I am a real survivor, according to my lifelong friends. ;)

Question for the over 50s - do you fancy women who are around the same age, or are you randy old buggers who eye up 20 year olds?

    Exit,

Re: 20 year old females ?...

Speaking personally "Eying up" was never my cup of tea. It was always down to business or don't waste my bloody time. To be honest I have always been surprised at just how damn randy young women really are, if you turn them on ?... ;)

    P. :ninja: (BTW; At my age they have to be much younger for me !)

Strange, but when I was younger, I certainly found older ladies attractive.
Now that I'm older. I must admit that the younger ladies generally [but not always] have the advantage.

Why do I have a strange feeling that I may live to regret that statement.
