    As a mod, fair play, you gotta admire mod makers giving their time up for free and all that..

    But all it really does in essence is play with the settings to get them more like QW (player speed, rocket damage etc etc), and some, more like Q2 (double jumping etc). Some ppl will love it, some will think its a total waste of time.

    What Q3 needs (as purely a CTF player here) is more, and better maps and maybe a few new and different game types..

    That said the mod has some big community ppl behind it and it will prolly do well in some quaters of the community

    can u not understand how adding more to a game ruins it? or at least understand how it ruins it for most of us? different game modes just leaves room for more divide.

    give me and someone a gun, a hallway and 2 rooms. then let's see who's the best at killing eachother.

    im waiting for rocket arena for quake3 to come out, hopefully it will only have one map, "arenax"

    havent tried pro mode yet, but one of the reasons im not playing unreal tournament is that there are so many mods, people will get beaten in duels and start "specialising" as "medics" in "team fortress mode" only, "i dont play deathmatch sorry"

    I tried it earlier and must say I liked it a lot.

    The jump pads are a lota fun with the extra air movement.

    The RL is also greatly improved.

    I have to say I like it. Nice air-control, not too much. The weapon switches seem very smooth. Nice to see they brought back the old backpacks.

    And Vagga, if you don't like it that's your perogative. But you seem to be a UT player, so please don't come along and criticise a mod nobody is forcing you to play. You don't see any of us poking holes in every other UT mod that comes out. If you don't like the game don't play it. Simple. And leave those who do enjoy it the their own opinion. People coming on here shouting about how crap it is, and how it is making it more QWish aren't going to make a difference to the ppl that will play it...

    Osiris - All I said is that it was making Q3 more like QW and Q2 and that some would really like it and some would really not like it at all....

    Hardly OTT, and TBH I play more Q3 CTF than UT by some way and feel justified in saying that it needs more good maps, as we have 4 mebbe 5 quality maps, fcuk all for any league.

    And as you said, everyone has a right to an opinion.

    Its not fu<king like quakeworld.
    And everyone knows quakeworld is crap.
    Just look at all the mods. RA,TF,CTF,Fury,CA.
    God will those crazy game makers ever realise.
    We dont want variety. We want a game with 2 rooms, a corridor, and one gun to camp with a respawn time of 50 minutes and only one bullet, where your best chance of a kill is when u respawn.

    On a lighter note, just now and then, ya know not normaly cause im not really a freak....

    Dear god I know im strange. Thinking all these silly mods have their own "fun" little quirks, but hell Im gonna be a rebel and enjoy the fact that my 30 quid for a game goes just that little farther with extra mods.

    Having said that i played the pro mod last night till the wee hours of the morning....and it is good. Me likes but hates to see more devide in the world of quake.

    Ya but in fairness chaos, by that same reasoning, UT, Half-life and any other new games to come out will be to replace their predecessors.Wasnt Q3 brought out to replace Q1 and 2?
    In the end of the day people will play whats fun (or whatever the serious gamers consider "l33t")

    Therefore I say bring on the mods. Hell if they didnt I wouldnt have my favourite games of CA, UTCTF and Counterstrike.
    And yes maps are needed as much as mods.
    And I see your point about the gaming numbers of Q3 dropping as they diversify to mods, but you cant hold it against people for playing whas fun.
    Actually you CAN and ppl do but imo those guys with the sh1te about mods not being good for ure "l33t" (what a stupid word?) skillz (why dont we spell that properly either?) can just go to h3ll (and the 3's instead of e?).

    Incidently that satans abode can be found at KCD headquarters. Its a steel vault with Celine Dion music constantly playing that we lock ourselves into to get VERY aggresive and pumped for a match. How muso ever got the courage to buy those Celine CD's in the first place I will never know.

    Why are ppl all of a sudden against mods. Remember that Quake was full of them and noone played vinalla quake for the last few years. Then came QW and ppl used always play server side mods weather ye realised it or not. The quake.ie war server was running a mod(kombat teams), the duel server was running a mod(name escapes me atm, maybe kombat teams also). So why all of a sudden are ppl getting frightened that the community is getting split between q3 and a pro mode mod. It makes since to find the best mod and stick to that, q3 stand alone was never going to be enough. ID had originally planed to release pro mode out of the box anyway but desided against it. Would we have complained if ID had released the pro mode out of box? I think not, I think we would have been playing on servers with the pro mode enabled from day one and anyone who would play the normal mode would have been badged a sissy or something.

    Deal with it!

    that will be intresting, Im not sure the l33t Q2 people will agree to playing it in tourneys, as they seem to be doing well in Q3 so far (1, 2 and 3 in UK CPL qualifier for example), so maybe it will fragment the community more..

    also, they arnt tryign to make it like QW,l they are bring the parts of q1, q2 that the players liked.

    the improvemnts that are made will make for better tdm.

    I've played the Pro-mode a fair bit now, and I have to say all it is, is a QW3. Everything QW that was left out of Q3 has been included back in again.

    The RL has been made by far the most important weapon. This has upset the rather fine weapon balance that existed in Q3, meaning that players who favour the RL have a distinct advantage in playing.

    Make no mistake, this is QW on a different engine. Hey, I don't mind, I loved QW, but don't try and cod anyone. Call a spade a spade.

    jaden its NOT anything like quakeworld, it doesnt play like it, even the movement is totally different..

    it is more like a cross betwen UT and quake3, with some bits from qw/q2 as well

    some changes i like, the new "knockback" off the weapons is good, the new rocket launcher is good, but some things just make it into a spawn-frag fest, like the 100h on starting, especially on tourney4.. i just beat nightmare xaero on tourney4 by 57 frags in 15 mins?? it was like the second game i ever played in pro mode, the first wasnt even on that level..this would never happen in normal mode, just because of the 125h starting which gives him the chance to machinegun back

    the new shaft is good, but they should leave the range at whatever it was, or else turn down the damage a bit and turn up the range instead

    the people calling it the pro mode arent q3 pro players thyre qw pro players .fact.
    All thyre doin is reviving qw in pretty colours , if they were unhappy with q3 they should have stuck with qw , theyve gone and ****ed up the weapon balance with faster stronger rl ie shotgun and plasma were a lot more efficient. imo
    But all the same u cant stop the sea with a wall made outa sand so ill be good and lie down and take it, its gonna happen neways so just all except it.

    the best parts of Q2 are in it? the best part of Q2 is weapon/ammo dropping, which they left out, i've been following the development of this and the reasoning giving for leaving it out was
    "Q2 weapon and ammo dropping system could be implemented. it wasn't because team games could become more like FFAs with everybody running around with RLs"

    Until its netcode is improved (likely) and the server spec is reduced (unlikely) tdm is just going to be asking Man U to play Real Madrid with a beach ball.

    Q3 is a great game, I really like it on a lan and I cant wait to play ProMode on a lan but I cant understand why the netcode is so poor... frown.gif

    Q3 will be the defacto standard for TDM I reckon and Promode will take over probably (remember noone plays Quake 1 without QW in Europe, is Promode going to be the QW of Q3?)

    Whats curious is that I come from the time of Indigo CTF and anyone will tell you those were the golden days of online gaming. I like QW, CA and Q3 but its taken UT ctf to give me that rush that CTF used to...

    I'm not saying anyone should switch, but you also have to face the fact that UT isnt going to go away and has its good points.

    Btw pred you say that it is being designed by qw professionals?
    Well I don't know about the other members of the design team, but I do know that SK_Griff, and [9]Paralyzer both play Quake3 professionally

    pro mode is ok, but some things are annoying.. eg. they added in the "ramp acceleration" bug from QW , and the "double jump" bug from q2.. WHY??

    the weapons.. i think they should make the machinegun a more "skillful" weapon by getting rid of the spread, and instead reducing the damage to 5 per bullet (from 7)... similar to the way QW shotgun is a good weapon because it has more uniform spread, while winquake shotgun is ****e because it has very random spread

    in the end i think pro mode(modified a lot) will probably take over in the end, the same way that QW took over from winquake, and KTeams mod for QW (allows proper bunnyhopping over 50 FPS, also more options, eg. spawn modes, anti-shotgun script things, etc) generally took over from QW

    oh yeah, lower range for lightning gun is ****, instead they should leave the damage as it was(8 per cell?), the increased kickback is what really matters, you can use the lightning gun to control which direction people move in now, just the way it should be.. damage doesnt need to be increased

    While I'm not "pro" enough to tell the diff as far as air control (the only aircontrol I know is how to keep a fart in when in a lift)
    and other stuff what Koopa, etc. are talking about,
    I do like the hud, very nicely done.

    the weapons were all too strong, MG+sgg was too strong.

    tdm sucked, impossible to "own" or just stay alive.

    i like the starting with 100h, and the stronger RL, i enjoy the camping and controlling players.


    like sam said, the movement isnt the same as QW, its a cross between ut/q3.

    Im gonna be general here. No tiny details..

    Promode puts the R A P E back into q3. The word BOKK can have meaning again. Its fast.

    Make no mistakes tho. Its NOT QuakeWorld, nor is it Q3. Its a mod. And like CA, CTF and what-ever, it will be played and probably alot. Remember winquake.. its days were numbered when QW came out.

    Have to play it more to give a full opinion.

    I have to agree with Ser there, the weapons in q3 are balancced to be strong when you start on 125H, but now they prove ridiculously strong. In QW it took a reasonable amount of skill to be able to spawn frag someone, but if you could react quicker than the guy camping your spawn, you could escape with at least part of your health, now you are more or less dead either way. I think the rockets are powerful enough in the pro-mod, but maybe it is the degradation of the power of the splash damage that is too strong.
