The Highlander 4 thread has inspired me to start this one. A quick search seems to indicate its not been done before.

So to start the ball rolling :

Speed 2 (borderline since speed wasnt all that good)
    Highlanders 2-4.

    Any more for any more?

There should be some ground rules eg: It should have the main star - rather than just being made by the studio 'cos they own the rights - at least with the original start some effort has to be made to screw it up..
eg: Jaws without Roy Schneider / Smokey & bandit w/o Burt Reynolds

The Return of a Man Called Horse - Richard Harris
(actually any film with Return in it's name)

    Either of the Matrix sequels.

Does Pearl Harbour count as a sequel to tora tora tora ?

Any of the Godzilla films in colour (B&W were great esp the one with King Kong)

Nope but you get bonus points for effort!

And if you can include it Im gonna trump it with that film where a modern us carrier goes back in time to sort out those pesky japs and secretly saves the day. :P~

A quick search tells me its called the Final CountDown - bet the soundtrack was great!!

Guess its kinda like a prequel but Cruel Intentions 2 was possibly the worst film i've ever seen.

Like a debut album from a band, they've got all the time in the world to work on that first one.
It's only when that does well that they rush up a sequel to it...
That's why sequels are bad (prequels are worse), they're just a rush job to make more money.

    ...Matrix included.

Good things take time and effort... no exceptions.

Return of A Man Called Horse was better than the first film...

    Superman 3 and 4 were'nt anything as good as 1 and 2.

    Mike.

Both Matrix sequels were a complete and utter travesty compared to the first one, and therefore brought the whole Matrix story down with it.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,001 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

Jeepers Creepers II - utter crap (I liked the first movie!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,152 ✭✭✭dazberry

    Robocop sequels.

i demand that you specify that does not include Return of the Jedi (or Return of the King ):p

and on that note...star wars episode one (but not so much two)
    ...prequels count in this thread..right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Godfather 3 because 1 and 2 were more like 2 different parts of the same film.
Police Acadamey 2 - 31, the first one was watchable at least, the rest were muck.

(actually any film with Return in it's name)

What about Return of the King?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 450 ✭✭James R

    Bad Boys 2

Actually the harder task is naming about ten sequels which are better than the originals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

tremors 2. while still a classic in itself, not as believable as tremors.

    Staring the USS Nimitz
and demonstrating that air combat still takes place at 400Knts
and no they didn't save the day - 'cos that would have broken the time line
Pity they didn't let Kirasawa finish all the japanese scenes - but hey - that's hollywood...

    - Beyond the posidon adventure (but they used different actors)
    - westworld II

Madmax IV - the one where Kostner had gills. :D

    I'd say matrix sequels!

Robocop sequels and Home Alone sequels and Scary Movie sequels and Scream sequels and Predator 2 and I will stop now:)

I dunno actually. Home Alone 2 wasn't bad! Probably wasn't up there with Home Alone because it wasn't a new idea anymore but there was still plenty of laughs and I'd watch it over Christmas if it was on for instance.

    Haven't seen 3 or 4 to comment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭Exit

Yeah, I'd put Home Alone 2 on a par with the first one. As soon as they lost Culkin, it went downhill quick.

home alone 2 sucked while 1 was a classic!!

The lost world wasn't a patch on the originality of jurassic park. There are so many other b-movies....nightmare on elm street 2, halloween 2....etc

A sequel that was better than the original....terminator 2.

Yeah, and even better - Terminator 3.

But for worse sequels: Ghostbusters II
    Carrie II
    American Psycho II

Sequels that were better than the first one are notoriously hard to find - as ironically referenced in 'Scream 2'

I prefer "The Terminator" to "Terminator" so I won't even count that. Instead I'll go with:
    Aliens
    The Godfather - Part II
Star Wars - Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
    Final Destination II

To make the game more challenging, I shouldn't be allowed count those movies that aren't *strictly* sequels, in the sense that they were movies made to cash in solely on the success of the first one and never existed before that. By these rules, I have to rule out "Empire.." and "Godfather, Part II." So I have now only 2 on my list offhand.

Smokey & bandit w/o Burt Reynolds

Smokey & Bandit movies were just as bad when Burt Reynolds WAS IN THEM!

    Highlander 2-4

    Hellraiser 2-8

    Jaws 3-4

    T3

    Matrix 3

Every Star Trek movie of an odd number :D

Blair Witch 2. man, that was a smell of a movie..

He meant Waterworld AKA Mad Max with gills.

And When Nature Calls was as good as the first Ace Ventura imo.

Are you are going to counter-argue that waterworld was a completely original concept not based in any way shape or form on any other series of films ? :D

The return of Mr Moto <cringe>

I'd have to say Hannibal. Not a patch on Silence of the Lambs.
Red Dragon wasn't bad. At least it was better than the original Manhunter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Yes, American Psycho 2 was horrible... I still get it confused in my head with one of the Urban Legend films...

Also. Temple of Doom was a pretty poor follow up to Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Predator 2 sucked big hairy ones! Whats with the drug gang thing?

Robocop 2 for the same reason

Terminator 2 for being so bloody nice!

    Highlander 2 onwards ....aghhhhhhh!

ReAnimator 2 for trying to be a real movie

MadMax 3 for the same reason

Star Wars Episode1 (movie4) for the kiddies

Aliens3 All men? what were they thinking.

    List never ends..........

I liked Robocop 2... especially the Robocop 2 robot itself... it was so cute how that little claw in it's belly got excited when it was about to get a hold of the Nuke drug.

Robocop 3 was horrible though... the bad guy was just some stupid Ninja... and to think Frank Miller wrote that... por shame...

I hated, hated, HATED Robocop 3.
I was even pretty hammered when I saw it first. Usually that means I'm willing to forgive movies for being dumb (Kung Pow).

    But JESUS, guys.

Didn't Frank Miller also write the second one? Just sayin'.

Goldmember is the best of the Austin Powers series.

and by the world is not enough, i assume the bond flick.
Cant really be called a sequel given Bond films aren't regarded as sequels.

    Rocky 2-5

Police Academy 2-6 (first one was funny and should have been left at that instead of being milked, rumours of No.7 :D:ninja:

Star Wars: Phantom Menace (what a let down)

2 Fast 2 Furious (thought this sequel was painful)

Crocodile Dundee 2+3 (original was a laugh)
