Sounds like you're skinny alright - but maybe it's natural for you - are the rest of your family skinny as well?

There is no magic formula, but if you have a good diet and exercise regularly your body will find it's natural weight.

Balanced diet, 5 fruit and veg a day, cut out chips/chocolate/sweets except for treats, reasonable amount of meat/fish, and enough carbs (pasta/rice/potatoes),

Exercise : if you want to bulk up, get a balanced routine at 3 sets of 8-12 reps e.g.
    Lat pulldowns
    bench press
    back extensions
    tricep dips
    bicep curls
    bent leg raises
    leg press
    squats
with 5-10 mins cycling/rowing beforehand to warm up and lots of stretching afterwards. It will take over an hour to do all that and have a shower afterwards. If you're in a gym ask someone to make you out a programme. Do it twice or three times a week with a rest day in between to see best benefits. Increase the weights gradually as you get stronger.

Don't just do weights, make sure you do some cardio during the week as well cycling/rowing/swimming/jogging.

check out a few articles at bodybuilding.com
Great website for information on weight loss, weight gain, muscle gain etc. Also some good articles on different fitness routines for each sport. Learn a lot about the anatomy. I used to go on it when I was going to the gym and I put on more weight in one summer then friends who have been doing weights for a few years. Its about getting the perfect balance of food and exercise. More importantly food. NOT JUNK FOOD. Foods with protein and carbohydrates should be eaten regularly. Try eating a few slices of bread every 2 hours a day and drink plenty of milk. This should give you a few pounds of lean muscle. Eat plenty of meat and fish. Red meat contains Creatine which will give you massive gains over time. I know what irt is like to be really skinny so I wish you luck on this. I went from 9 stone to 11 stone in one summer. Just takes a bit of work. Remember, chippers and **** may give you weight but it will be disgusting weight.

    My regime is :

2 poached eggs, cornflakes, 4 slices toast for brekkie,

foreman grilled chicken or steak or any kind lean meat/ fish really, pasta or potatoes, veg.

no snacks, or supper as im now trying to lose a few xmas pounds.

added to that im on 99% pure creatine monohydrate mixed with tony quinns protein powder, on the lead up to games i take tony quinns amino energise tabs

This will bulk you up but you need to train for it not to turn to fat.
The more you train the more you'll find your own program but get help from an instructor at the gym first off.
after that it depends what you wanna do/ look like. if you want real bulk like me go for big weights less reps and vice versa

i went mad on weights 2 years ago and was squatting over 250kg, benching 130kg and dumbbell curl 30kg each arm and still able to run a mile under 5mins 20. my 60m dash was 7.5 secs. That was my most successful year ever in my sport and i was really flying - on top of my game.

Last year i skipped all that, got lazy but stayed eating the same ish food and guess what?? i got fat, slow, and had the worst year of my sports career since i was 14!!

    Never again.

    Remember

you are what you eat but one mans honey can be another mans poison

    D'ya like that??

Best of luck, oh what i wouldnt give to be 16 again, i would have done everything right and be a king by now...

Up until I was 20 I weighed 135 pounds (Just over 9.5 stone). I'm 6'1. So pretty skinny really.

If you want to gain weight (muscle weight), you need to do two things, lift weights, eat more.

I only really started putting on muscle weight when I got serious about my eating.

Mostly eat protein and complex carbs, basically meat and bread, pasta etc. Stay away from too much junk food, unless you want to simply become fat.

    Eat breakfast.

Eat often, big meals, meat based.

Don't wait until you are hungry, eat when ever you think you can cram some more food in.

Don't be too strict about what you eat, you are trying to gain weight. hamburgers are your friend. (Big Als XXL Burgers ;)

You should also start lifting weights and cut back on the cardio. Do a good cardio warmup, but that's it. Save your energy for lifting and growing.

Stick to heavier lifts that use larger muscle groups

    bench press
    chin ups
    squats
    deadlifts

but learn how to do these excercies properly.

Remeber, most of your muscles mass is in the lower half of your body. Always train all major mucles groups in a week. legs, back. chest and arms. Spending every day doing bicep curls will not make you much bigger.

Also, don't train too often. Train hard but only 3-4 times a week. You need plenty of rest to grow.

It will take time, but you're young, so don't worry about it. Try to gain at least a pound a month. Most of this will be muscle if you are eating and training right. Don't worry about gaining a bit of fat, it's easy to lose later on for someone who naturally tends to be lean.

You should be able to put on about a stone every year for the first 2 or 3 years.

At age 25, I now weigh just over 200 pounds. (about 14.5 Stone) and I'm certainly not fat ;)

    That's a gain of 65 pounds in 5 years.

Skinny guys can gain weight :) It's just takes a bit longer.

Consistent eating and training and a bit of patience are the real secret.

Well would you look at that? I'm also 6'1" 135lbs. But i think i'm puttin on some weight. The protein shakes are definitely a good idea, but only if you're workin out too. I mainly do cardio, which i know isn't ideal (basketball 3-4 times a week) but i train at home too. I'm all about inverted pushups to gain some size all around the upper body, and crunches to keep the 6pack clearly visable :)

Hey, that's one thing us skinny guys got on our side

The Other Jeffery Lebowski..... the Millionaire.....

its your metabolism at your age that the problem is... wait a few years, get a job in the IT industry and become a fat b@stard like the rest of us!

    you're 17, you haven't filled out yet.

Even though you've probably finished growing (taller), adult muscle won't finish developing until early 20s. That's why you rarely ever get professional rugby players starting in their teens, whilst it's no problem for pansy football players to :)

Excessive body building excercises won't be particularly healthy at that age.
