    I've always been curious as to what my maximum heart rate was. I've never done any tests for it but one of the things that I always record in my training log is max hr for a session. Last year I hit 203 on a run so I was using that as my max hr since all documentation I read always said that your run max hr was close enough to you acutal max hr. This documentation also said "your max hr on a bike is equivalent to your max hr minus X pm".

    My problem is I can't find these docs again! I want to find out what the X is!!

    I like this site and the calculator it provides. Your heart rate will be lower during certain exercises than others and the site gives formulas for determining different rates.

    that documentation will only be a rough guide; HR on a bike/swimming is usually about 10 beats lower than running - but possibly if you are a dedicated biker you would be able to hit 100% HRthere as well.

    The way to find your max HR is basically to run short steep hill reps at 100% effort after you are fully warmed up and preferably use a monitor that records max automaitcally. The scientific tests on lab treadmills do the same thing. Not a pleasant experience I would imagine. The usual guide of 220 - your age is only an approcimation as everyone is different blah blah.

    For you, just work off 203 (or 200 if you want to make calculations easier!) for everything and don;t worry about the book.

    Ahh I know that :) Mine according to that is 195

    Emmmmm I hit 201 on the bike last night. I'm not a dedicated biker, I only do about 20 miles a day 5 days a week at the minute.

    I probably should do some sort of a max hr test, but the idea of running until I collapse is not all that appealing at the minute (my ITB flared up again :()
