With the new year upon us now whats everyones aims for the gym?

I know a lot of people are aiming towards starting and sticking at it, theres also a lot of dietry aims!

For everyone else thats hard at the weight training/cardio what are ye aiming for?

I myself am hoping to get upto 100kg on the bench, i've worked my way up from 50kg to 88kg in the past few months and hope to keep this going.

I also want to start and do some serious leg work for the first time!

    Hi ..Happy New Year..

quick question, how did u manage to improve your bench press so quickly??
I'm doing 3 sets of 8-10 reps @ 65kg and am stuck there, (last 2 months) mind U i dont have anyone to spot me 95% of the time.
    Any tips to pass on??

    Moby,

spotting is a big thing when benching, well i found it to be anywayz, I train with a lad who's benching 125kg and he's only going to the gym a short while! He is a trained boxer tho.

But benching is like everyone says just keep putting the weight on, even if it is only 1kg. And a lot of it is mental.

I have the option of going to 3 different gyms or using a bench i have at home. In 2 of the gyms they only have the machines for sitting down on and benching which i dont really like, i can use over 90kg on these, in the other gym its basically all free weights and theres a proper bench with the bar alone weighing 23kg, so with a spotter i normally do

    10 * 63kg (to warm up really)

    8 * 73kg

    6 * 78kg

    4 * 83kg

    4 * 88kg

I then do the incline and decline as well as benching dumbells and various other chest exercises. Without a good spotter i would still be at 50kg though, when i use the bench at home i rarely go over 60kg.

But i find that if you psyche yourself up to lift big you will, if your able to do 3*10 at 65kg then you will be able to lift 80-90kg at least twice. Just get a spotter and pile the weight on....test yourself.

    Hope this helps

ps. what sort of a routine do you do?
