Well, I have been with UTV Internet for a year now with ISDN and stick mainly with 1 64K Channel (7K/s normally) I have attached my download stats for the last 6 months? I have 180Hrs per month but I normally would not go beyond 100-120 hours and around 1Gb max. How do you compare? :)

On Satellite broadband here as I'm too far away to get ADSL (first choice would be clicksilver of course) :)

    Cheers

I'd generally average about 16 gigs (combined) a month. But when i first got BB, i was transferring up to 60 a month (up and down) for first 2 months. :-)

Stupid question but, what program are you using to measure the transfer?

    Andrew163,

It's called Dumeter. Another useful such tool would be logtime. Do a google...

    Hamster.

You can also use netmeter which is free and does the same thing as dumeter

anyway afaik I we roughly get 220GB off of the 512k line I have access to :D (or whatever the max for a 512K is)

    Which satralite provider allows this?
I was under the impression that satalitte providers were very fussy about download limits.
    Is it expensive?

Ya please tell me - im new to satelite broadband - in fact i have all the gear but cant get the europeonline software to install so im looking for an alternative...

    Please??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,711 ✭✭✭Dr. Dre

@ Joc - What OS are you running ? I had similar problems trying to get europeonline running on Win XP, in the end I went with netsystem
Netsystem started off uncapped and then they imposed a 6GB limit for existing users and I think a 3Gb one for new subscribers.

Got rid of them after a year due to their quality of service, throttling of P2P ports etc.
They would appear to have improved that though, although as you would imagine pings are quite big - so I wouldn't expect it to be good for gamers.

With UTV BB now, a whole lot better.

The satellite service I was referring to is a personal project - nothing to do with UTVI.

Oops, didn't make it clear :o I'm with UTV ADSL now, not satellite !

You could take a look around the forum on www.netsystemusers.com to see how happy people are with netsystems current setup, as i was saying I think their service has improved since I left them in October.

    What resetting?
The connection? never noticed it dropping, well actually I have but thats due to there being no bandwidth so things like IRC often have connection issues during very high usage :(

well i will be, seems a bit stupid. DU meter has a proper log. Doubt it would be hard for the netmeter people to do something similar.

Agreed, I have a PC turned on 24/7 downloading, I reboot it every 17+ days as it starts acting up (WindowsXP) and I haven't yet got the time to switch the box over to Linux

haven't got du meter installed anymore but i average about 60/70 gigs a month... sometimes more.

    when i'm on 56k i still get about 2 or 3...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,244 ✭✭✭AntiRip

I just have a 56k modem with utvXL. Am seriously thinking of getting BB though. Just a couple of questions

what is azureus that irishmiks is using? is it like p2p program?
They are some d/l speeds!! Me and my 5kb/sec :(

If lets say i went for eircom or utvsilver bb, if u went over the cap do they charge the 3c per mb they claim they have the right to do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

60 to 70 gig a month ! jesus crist what are you downloading iv downloaded 4.7 gigs since i got broadband 6 months ago

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,388 ✭✭✭Señor Juárez

i got the eircom standard DSL line in around christmas. already topped 10 gigs, and that is with some restraint (due to fear of cap enforcement).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

look at all those illegal downloads, i wonder if his ISP looks at these boards...

I turn off my computer at night; just don't unplug the broadband connection (wireless) from the wall.

Anyone know how to tell on a Mac how much I download?

When I joined Netsource for the first few months I was downloading about 40-60 gigs a month. I got capped, and when I rang up the woman told me that I was the 3rd highest downloader in Ireland! (on netsource anyway...)
