    Hi guys,

Just wondering what everyones fav movie of 2003 is and why.
Or what they thought was the worst.
The whole year now, not just the last few months.

My fav has to be Lord of The Kings, all of em, I just love them.
mind you Intermission was pretty damn good too.

not too sure on the worst yet.. still trawling through my memory trying to remember what I've blanked out.

I liked Kill Bill and The Happiness Of The Katakuris a lot, and I'll definitely be picking them up on DVD. I've high hopes for ROTK also.

Worst movie? Hmmm. Bad Boys 2 and SWAT are definitely up there, but I've probably seen some real stinkers that I've blocked out.

Best - Intermission, closely followed by Pirates of the Caribbean (which was a very pleasant surprise, I was expecting it to be crap)

Worst - haven't seen any real stinkers that I can think of, but Terminator 3 would be the most disappointing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,274 ✭✭✭de5p0i1er

ROTK was the best followed by Pirates of the Caribean & Kill Bill Vol 1.

The Matrix Revolution & Charlies Angels: Full Throttle were the worst I saw although I haven't seen Legally Blonde 2. (Thank God)

Honorable Mentions: Kill Bill - Volume I, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Cidade de Deus, Alien: Director's Cut

Worst: Too difficult, but I thought "Spin the Bottle" was awful.

I don't know what were the best or worst but by far the most disappointing were Governator 3 and Matrix:Revolutions. I'm still pissed off about those two turnips.

Best: Return of the King, followed closely by Kill Bill & 25th Hour.

Worst: The Matrix Reloaded (didn't bother going to see Revolutions) and The Hulk (which was ok until that bloody ending which ruined it totally!).

May I ask why? From a technical point of view, all three movies are very well made. I mean I may not agree with the "Godfather, Part II" being regularly regarded as one of the best movies of all time but I CAN agree that the movies are - technically - very well made and deserve recognition. So, given that, how can you HATE these movies rather than just merely dislike them?

i've seen very little of this years films.

    Best:

Return of the King, Russian Ark.

Also, Moriba Duncan's work on articlechampion.com deserves a mention. Download the 33meg video here:

    http://www.articlechampion.com/downloads/download.htm.

    I can't recommend that enough.

    Worst:

That's so easy, the worst film of 2003 was 2 Fast, 2 Furious. The worst thing ever to be comitted to film, ever.

A special mention goes to the Wachowski brothers, for being so good at ruining a nice first film with two steamy piles of gooey crap.

Best would have to go to Return of the King, after finally getting to watch it last Tuesday.

Worst: Hmm, tough one as I saw quite a few crap films this year, including Legally Blonde 2, Matrix Reloaded & some chickflick with JLo as a cleaner or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 353 ✭✭Boberto

Solaris... What was the deal with that?!?!!?
I sat through the whole thing but it was crap and i usually love almost all SCI-FI

Dislike wasn't a strong enough word to describe how I felt about the trilogy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,518 ✭✭✭Kalina

The best films this year for me were Seabisucit and Return of the King. I enjoyed Elf and Bruce Almighty aswell, but wouldn't put them in the same category as the first two.
The worst movie of the year was Anger Management- big disappointment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,129 ✭✭✭Sesshoumaru

Best Films: Spirited Away and Return of The King

Worst: Terminator 3 was really disappointing for me. I had been looking forward to this, but it turned out to be rubbish!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,423 ✭✭✭tinkerbell

    Best: Return of the King

Worst: Has to be Revolutions, my god, what a stooopid movie, I can't get those few hours of my life back, you know!!!

That movie with JLo as the cleaner was Maid In Manhattan, by the way.

And Gangs of New York was 2002.

Wasn't out this year now, but Road to Perdition was also terrible. WHY do they torture us with crap movies!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,791 ✭✭✭Linoge

Best: ROK by far. Bruce Almighty was unexpextedly good.

Worst: The usual Revelutions- made reloaded look good. At least Reloaded had some MATRIX!!

Does anyone else agree that Kill Bill is one of the worst films of all time???? I love every Tarantino film except this.
1)The acting was the worst I have ever seen, the standard of Steven Seagul and Vin Diesel..... barely. :o
    2) WTF was with the subtitles??? It could have been done in english and we could have guessed they were speaking japanese.:ninja:
3)Wakes up from a 3 year coma and kicks the living sh!t out of people.... how????
    4)Wiggle your big toe?????:dunno:
5)Changing to B & W for no apparent reason. ww)
6)The film was blatantly overstretched, obvious that division into 2 parts was a complete after thought.

Dont say that it was meant to be like a kung fu flick and I just dont appreciate the artistic side. Its a big budget Hollywood piece of thrash.

I know this thread wasn't meant to be a host to bitching about films but I didn't get a chance to write this when i saw it. :)

Don't agree at all - thought it was cool.

to 2) - does it matter if they used subtitles or not? assuming you can read - surely it doesn't hamper the film all that much. (by the way look out for the passion of christ).

to 3) - the movie is not a documentary - realism is not something it aspired to, we could pick apart many movies on this point. there is a reference in it though (from imdb) "The music heard when The Bride gets ready to figure Copperhead and Cottonmouth is the theme from "Ironside" (1967). The first episode had the main character being shot and left for dead, coming to find that his legs didn't work, and setting out to find the people who did this to him."

to 5) (from imdb) "The black & white photography is, in the end, an homage to '70's and '80s US television airings of kung fu movies. Black & white, and also black & red, were used to "hide" the shedding of blood from television censors. It was, however, originally, to be shown in color (and is in the Japanese cut of the film) but the MPAA demanded measures be taken to tone the scene down. Tarantino merely used the old trick for its intended purpose, rather than merely as an homage."

to 6) i couldn't disagree more - my only problem with the movie is that the studio bastardised it by splitting it up.

I sat through Dumb and Dumberer last night- not by choice I might add cos I had heard the reviews- and have to say it's the worst drivel I've seen since Dude, Where's My Car. I can't believe they made such a mess of it seeing as Dumb and Dumber was so great.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,601 ✭✭✭Kali

Best: Spirited Away... Return Of The Kings was great but it didn't capture me as much as the former.

Worst: Gigli. J-Lo and Ben Affleck.. enough said... the fact that its #9 in the worst films of all time on imdb alone should count for something.
Does anyone else agree that Kill Bill is one of the worst films of all time???? I love every Tarantino film except this.

hated it. nearly left halfway through.. terrible terrible film, directorial masturbation from start to finish.
